- Dihuko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Sounds like they're just trying to get a lot of free music.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10mytunesrss is still the best application that i've found. it's freeware & multi-os available.
http://www.codewave.de/products/mytunesrss/ - Oakes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11I'm still really confused as to how this works even after reading the parent's link, but it sounds illegal.
- baxtermaddux, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8its probably some 15 year old kid in nebraska that just wants a bunch of our music for free. smart little bastard
- webtech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Overview and screenshots in here:
http://go2web2.blogspot.com/2007/01/your-new-itunes-pc.html - tateswayz91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Have you tried MyTunesRSS? It's limited to your iTunes library but I have found it to be a lot easier to use and less buggy than orb. Plus it runs on java so you can use it on a mac. Give it a shot-
http://codewave.de - KyjL, on 10/12/2007, -1/+61) Get Hamachi
2) Set up Hamachi
3) Repeat step 1 & 2 for each box that you'll use
4) Use iTunes over Hamachi
Behaves exactly the same as if you were on the same network.
Hamachi is also REALLY damn useful by itself - adidos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@steal_apps01
Since my goal in life is to save as much of your time as possible, I've gone 1 step further than JazJon who kindly provided the web address. I've gone ahead and actually made you a clickable link!!!
http://www.orb.com/
No thanks are needed...I did this purely out of the goodness of my heart. - omaryak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Ironic that a program that's designed for an Apple program doesn't work on Mac.
- geekee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Will be broken with the next iTunes update.
- ljgardner, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Strange the first thing I see on the page is "Requires Windows XP" What about Mac people?
- tfedullo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3note the limit on the number of songs... not the size...
- JazJon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5orb.com
- JazJon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I use Orb, and it's free (does videos and live tv even)
- Ramtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i'm not complaining...
- zdiggler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Orb support all format of video too! I like it.
- jeffpipas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Kyjl beat me too it.. but hes got the right idea!
Has no one ever heard of Hamachi? Use Hamachi, create a local network, start up iTunes, share you library, listen to music... any iTunes store bought music, should be un-DRM of course, unless you've got a couple of authorizations handy. I've been sharing my library ANYWHERE for a long time... OS agnostic. You can put up to 16 computers on a (free) Hamachi network, friends and I have been sharing libraries since day one. - systimax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1dot tunes for OSX users. Much better
http://www.dottunes.net/ - mogydy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No you cannot do it from Anywhere, at least not from NORWAY, I tune's DRM is judged illegal there.
- mwosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iTunes + VPN works better.
- ectocooler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wow what an ugly program. looks like musicmatch.
- vypergts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Access to this web page is restricted at this time.
Reason:
The Websense category "Personal Network Storage and Backup" is filtered.
Works anywhere huh? - JazJon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@oOLiquidNightOo
mytunesrss looks like the best option for power users of itunes. (multi os is nice too)
Orb is the best option for non itune users. (PC only though) it supports live tv streaming and DVR recordings too. - zdiggler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh , I don't have any support or care or have for any closed AV formats.
- JazJon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I dont have any DRM songs. (and I dont use ITunes either) Searching google for >Orb ITunes< shows people have it working though.
- gage006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's not a hack. Orb has native support for it. Just change the output format and you're good to go.
- DJCult, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@baxter: So THAT'S why that little son-of-a-bitch looked so jolly on 'O' Street.
- MasterSplinter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh yeah? Good to know.
- audioslavery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Now for Zune to do something remotely similar
A select playlist of songs that can be shared would be a step in the right direction.. - kiwiboyus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Interesting, but I like to listen to my itunes on my home PC through my gotomypc connection from work, helps that I have cable at home and T1 at work.
- JohnTheJohnMan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Also try Vibe Streamer http://www.vibestreamer.com/
- jay42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Woah, its just like an iPod that holds 250 songs! Man, that is sweet!
Oh wait, my nano holds 2,000. - BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"""i'm sure it'll come soon as well... this software.. could be big... """
It involves iTunes, therefore it will be squashed. Sheesh, don't you know the drill by now? - unibomber420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just installed the Client, and i must say this is pretty cool service.
It does a lot more than just sharing 250 songs... it allows you full access to the files
on ur PC, and it allows your to access your entire itunes library via a neat little
web interface. Cool stuff.
Also seems to let u upload to ur PC, access from Windows mobile devices! wow
also seems to let u instal this on more than a few pc's that oyu need access too.
hot damn!
oh and it is free - test5477, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yeah, I'll just bring my ipod. less hassle.
- unibomber420, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this has very little do do w/ iTunes..
think more along the lines of access
my ***** anywhere.... - BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Exactly. i don't know why people get all excited about this stuff, whenever anyone does anything cool like this with iTunes, it's stillborn.
- daines88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://img401.imageshack.us/img401/5755/picture1bs0.jpg
Should have taken it as a sign that it didn't have a Mac version.. - zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1or share everything.
http://www.hamachi.cc ... - jkalinowsky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is really cool, but don't most people that have iTunes and that many songs have an iPod? Why would I stream the music when I can just listen to my iPod? The only reason I can see that I would stream my music to another computer is if I were at a friend/family member's house and we wanted to listen to my music collection.
- MasterSplinter, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Hmm, wonder if it'll work on my Wii....
- AHemp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That MyTunesRSS business looks really cool... If only I had a use for it.
- mdescher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0In addition to the above comments on MyTunesRSS: version 3.0 also supports non-iTunes music, i.e. plain music folders on your disk. This makes it interesting for Linux users as well. You can download beta versions of 3.0 from http://board.codewave.de if you like. You need not register to the forum to download.
- Ramtech, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This "beta" version of the Avvenu Music Player lets you share up to 250 songs. When you choose playlists from your PC to share, the playlists and songs are automatically copied to Avvenu's secure media center for reliable, streaming playback. Once your songs and playlists are copied to Avvenu’s media center, you don't even have to leave your PC powered on.

It looks slick and at the same time... very easy to use.... i think there could be some hacks as to make you able to share more than 250 songs... how about.. infinite!... that would be a lot better :)... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Does this Orb play iTunes Music Store purchased music and video?
- pburris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My guess is that they're taking advantage of Apple's licensing scheme, which allows a user to store a file he "owns" on three different computers -- doesn't say you have to own the computer, as I recall. If I'm right, then this is a pretty slick way to rent iTunes music from subscribers and stream it out to the world. But, I'm probably wrong and they'll get sued back to Napster1ville. It's kinda sad that the music industry employs more lawyers than musicians these days.
- ozool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Actually, it lets you access your entire iTunes collection remotely, no matter how big. The 250 songs is only a limit on sharing your music with others.
- MediaResearcher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I love that I can access my tunes at work without having to rely on an mp3 player. And sharing them with friends and family is icing on the cake...
- asksource, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It works great! This software service is going to change the game ...
