Your Mission: Spread Firefox One Giant Sticker at a Time

blog.mozilla.com — Mozilla, and specifically a group of Marketing interns, has began Operation Firefox, a contest that puts 3.5 foot Firefox stickers in the hands of its community and looks for creative new ways to share Firefox with the world. It's goal is to get 50 great photos of the Firefox logo in situations that promote the browser's defining characteristics.

    Get your ***** together, fix the memory leaks in your browser, you shouldn't be hogging more resources than Photoshop, and we're not even talking about extra extensions. Firefox was great a couple of versions ago, now it's getting really bloated and people have been asking for a lite version and fixes in the leaks, but you continue on with the Spread Firefox message like nothing ever really happened.

    The only reason most people even use Firefox are because of the extensions. My mom stopped using Firefox the other day after installing it, because it was slower than Internet Explorer.

    Opera is right on your ass Mozilla, so keep up your little games and see what happens.

    Dear Suckers: Go plaster our corporate logo in places we're too cheap to pay for ourselves. If you get it in, like, the Superbowl or whatever, then our stock options will increase, we'll get better executive bonuses and a billion other perks you won't see a molecule of. But we'll give you a $300 game console, which you can use to play with yourself. So good luck with that. Let us know how it goes; we'll be home watching Battlestar Galactica.

    If you start putting stickers on public or private property in an organize campaign such as this ... especially one where you're pre-approving the targets, you're going to get nailed. You'll get PR .... it just may not be good PR.

  • christophocles, on 10/24/2007, -1/+9Opera may be fast but it is far less extensible and has even worse compatibility with websites designed for IE than firefox. (if the page you need doesn't work in Firefox, there is a snowball's chance in hell it will work any better in Opera, and will probably be much worse).

    Case in point: The ONLY thing keeping my parents on Internet Explorer is the Houston Association of Realtors website, which is essential for their business. Since the website is a broken piece of *****, Firefox users cannot even use the basic search function. In Opera, however, you can't even LOG IN let alone try to search.
  • PaperMonkey, on 10/24/2007, -2/+9OK, yes it is technically defacing public (and/or private) property but did you take two seconds to go and look at the sticker and read the product information?
    Specifically these two points:
    - Almost 4 feet across! Remove and reuse. Won't damage walls or remove paint.
    - Made of fade-resistant vinyl and peel-and-place patented, low-tack adhesive.

    So would it really be a hardship for someone to come along, get a sharp edge under the corner and peel it off like those vinyl window decorations?
