- GreyedOut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yahoo Messenger was not installed when I updated to 3.0. Just read and de-select the options the installer offers you.
The Version History is in the README file. - dkiehl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I haven't verified that it installs Y! Messenger yet - would appreciate feedback from someone who doesn't care if it's installed. I just read about it in one of their forums. Also, the link they provide about version history to see whats 'new' doesn't include version 3.0
- Sujay, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Right, the install didn't really mess up anything for me. They updated a few of the widgets and added new ones. They ask you to install some other Yahoo stuff but it's not mandatory, just uncheck them. It also overwrites your earlier Konfabulator installation. Seems pretty fine to me, except they ask if you want to trust un-Yahoo! widgets when opening them. Otherwise seems okay.
- aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2resource hog.
- ThePharaoh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I just downloaded and installed 3.0 on my iBook. No installation of Yahoo Messenger was found. Seems to run well so far. I had a pre-existing installation of Konfabulator that I removed. The new version noticed that I had non-Yahoo created widgets and prompted me with a Deny/Allow screen just in case the widget caused problems. Looks like a nice upgrade on the Mac.

Unfortunately, it suffers from the one fatal flaw that makes me uninstall stuff like this every time: The widgets disappear when you hit Winkey+D, which I use all the time to minimize everything. And you basically have to strike F8 to get them back. Nope, too annoying... and such a silly basic issue! No digg."
Trying pressing WIN+M instead of showing desktop... that'll fix your 'issue'. :) - bunzai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The mess is optional during install...I will stick with 2.1.1 as long as the widgets work. I hate the way yahoo bundles useless wares everytime they take over web apps...
I'm with rogers, sorry, Yahoo rogers and they decided to drop usenet service because nobody uses usenet anymore...load of crap...unfortunately going dsl is not an option. - dkiehl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I want my digg back - I just read that it installs Yahoo Messenger without even asking. I hate Yahoo Messenger!
- robert3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this what will await del.icio.us? To be renamed to something lame such as "Yahoo! Bookmarks" for example? The same thing with Flickr?
- m0topilot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You can download 2.1.1 here... http://www.thefreeweb.net/index.php?pageaction=download&link_id=821
- SpacemanSpiff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think it's unfortunate they changed the name, but at least they are continuing to improve it (and for free).

Try looking in My DocumentsOlder Widgets - glassjoe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I prefer serious samurize.
- yugiohdan6, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1here's the ini file that the installer gets http://download.yahoo.com/dl/widgets/us/widgets_us.ini it contains the locations of the stand alone installers http://us.dl1.yimg.com/download.yahoo.com/dl/widgets/us/yahoowidgets3x67.exe is the konfabulator/yahoo widget engine installer
- unsliced, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What are you doing using the OS X Yahoo client anyway? Get Adium bro'.
- macewan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Linux support on Konfabulator in the near future appears doubtful. At least that's the impression I got after joining their forum and asking around.
- ForbesBingley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For me, Konfabulator was nothing more than a curio, and a clunky curio at that.
And as for those that sing the praises of Dashboad, well... - gahmahn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1So what most of you are saying is a company who owns a product isn't allowed to promote another product they have, as bad as it is. Anyway, if you don't checkmark it, it won't install. Unless your a "OH THEIR'S A NEXT BUTTON!" *CLICK* *CLICK* *CLICK* type.

It's a bit more... user demanding, but it blows things wide open in terms of customizability. - ryanknapper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1/me installed. Uncheck the default options and it doesn't install anything extra.
- scottperezfox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1do Yahoo! Widgets take up less system resources than Dashboard? Otherwise I have no reason to download them.
- Boof, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like using random ellipses because it makes me appear to be thinking. Idiots.
Also, I love the 20 comments on how the Y! messenger is installed and how horrible this is yet you are too god damn stupid to deselect the bundle. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm not a big fan of Konfabulator. It nearly doubles the time it takes for Windows to start-up because it loads the program on start-up for such a long time. Also, once it loads, it eats up an unacceptable amount of system resources. The available widgets aren't good enough to justify this hit in my system performance.
I did install Rainlendar a few days ago, and have been quite happy with it. One second to load it up, and it eats up a measely 5 megs of Ram. Sure, it's just a calendar with to-do and reminder lists, but I really need nothing else on my desktop.
Samurize is one of those programs that require a user to edit complicated configuration files (meaning: in Notepad) for it to work. Even basic things like positioning on the screen require this. I don't understand why any developer would be so lazy as to not automate such a basic function into the program and allow a user, for example, to drag the widgets around with the mouse, or to configure them with right-click context menus. - Crashless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It looks like most of the changes were on the backend for widget developers.
FWIW, I noticed that the main process's memory usage went up and all the widget's went down. Also, it seems the new 'main' widgets have been optimized a little because they're polling the CPU a little less.
IMHO, it's worth re-doing your widget setup if you use this program. - yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It Did NOT Instal the IM. And it Did NOT ask me to install it.
- Aard88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No problems installing 3.0 Deselect the Yahoo bundle so you don't get Yahoo IM and Yahoo being set as your homepage. I really wish they would have left it named Konfabulator, but free is good....
- McPostal, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Konspose (or whatever it was called) is now "Heads Up Display". I don't think a name change and bug fixes deserves a new whole number. Should have been a point number release.
- coolkid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yahoo definitely destroyed Konfabulator.
Look at the widgets in 3.0, some of them require Yahoo ID to log in. So I have to type my ID and password over and over again just for checking the weather.
Thumb down for Yahoo. BTW, I may have to back up my del.icio.us bookmark as soon as possible. - kkalyan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0New widgets are super cool, maps widget & search widgeet!
- nextsteposx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Change Log
http://widgets.yahoo.com/versionhistory/ - Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I was saddened to see the name changed... the word "Yahoo!" gives me the heebyjeebies.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is a great improvement. Go Yahoo!
whats with people hating yahoo? is it popular to do that like hating the president? - fvdheide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Moved this app from my 'Applications Paid-for' directory to the 'Application Freeware'.
Now i have to put it in the 'Applications Adware' directory - crombie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You mean there's an application that looks pretty, fails to live up to its hype, and wastes resources? And it's free? Don't they know Apple is making a mint on the same idea?
- spunkmeyer88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0negadigg - a better installer wouldn't have trashed my current config.
- rusty_g, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i want konfabulator back!!
- digitarius, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is ALMOST worth using for my Laptop just to have the fun little battery meter/Wifi signal meter.

Cluttered install, had to download from a server (and took forever), screwed up my widget preferences, there's a stupid legal notice for every new widget you run (trying to save their asses in a lawsuit - but smart people would figure out it's not Yahoo's fault if someone made a malicious widget)
- Fastermatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah now the DIGG widget is broken when you run this. SOMEONE WRITE A NEW WIDGET FOR DIGG. Or maybe DOS attack yahoo's site I dunno just a few suggestion's
- doddilus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0way to go yahoo, you put your name on everything and deleted all my widgets i downloaded
- DarthGordolf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0why teh hell did they change the name? now it sucks.
- gh3tto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0fastermatt : Yeah now the DIGG widget is broken when you run this. SOMEONE WRITE A NEW WIDGET FOR DIGG. Or maybe DOS attack yahoo's site I dunno just a few suggestion's
Diggnews 2.1 still works - SwordAngel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Correction to my previous comment: the icon is still there, I had to manually find it in the .exe and set it to the folder.
- SwordAngel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Remember how the "My Widgets" folder had a cool custom icon (the one with two gears)? It seems to be gone. :(
- gh3tto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The name change might actually turn this product around. I've been using Konfabulator for a few months now and am now writing widgets for em. The problem with the old name was it took noobs too long to memorize it.
- sadsac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Poo on yahoo...
What a klunky-ass "upgrade". I see no difference. It blows away the pixoria install yet leaves the pixoria startup item, but doesn't even install a "yahoo widgets" startup item. This upgrade was just done to re-do the installer with the default install checkboxes set to install yahoo-everything (default yahoo search engine, yahoo home page, yahoo yada yada). Be sure to uncheck all that yahoo crap.
I've left it on just because I'm so accustomed to the calendar, weather and wi-fi widgets... and I'm blowing away 20mb of RAM for that crap. I must be insane. - weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not that Apple didn't swipe the whole idea of Konfabulator, but doesn't their mail widget bear an uncanny resemblance to Apple Mail? Referring specifically to those little sunburst patterns that show how many messages you have
- Loyaleagle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I found that the new version doesn't seem to do anything...other than give you the opportunity to Yahoo-ize yourself....
What exactly is different about this one? - phildog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I installed it. The "Day Planner" widget is the main reason I upgraded. Boy does it suck. For some reason it freezes my cursor often when I'm using the mouse. I haven't seen a program make my P4 look this sluggish since Lotus Notes. Ugh.
- MilitantRabbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hopefully, this fixes the Stock Ticker glitch where it doesn't find any new stock symbols when you search.
Maybe a digg when I dl it on my system. -
