- anorris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Uh... Firefox 1.0 left beta, Firefox 1.5 left beta.... honestly what kind of question was that?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Google hasn't adopted Firefox ... they have a financial arrangement. As in, Google pays Firefox to favour them.
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13sorry dude. they did make it compatible with FF. Im not going to take all the credit here but a few months back I emailed them an angry rant how they are so behind Google and need to implement support for FF.. they sent me a response that my suggestion was fowarded to their development department, and a few months later they sent me another email that FF support is here.
other than that, I still dont like Yahoo.Too many ads - lexbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10No. Firefox is NOT a Google product.
- thewebguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9so while you're searching for the kennedy assassination you get to see links to pictures of "kennedy ass"
- 3monkeys, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Wondering where Google is wrt adopting 2.0? Especially seeing Googles adoption of Firefox.
- seventoes, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yahoo live search is already built into Flock.
- 3monkeys, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Nearly 36 hours and no google updates? I wonder what is on the way? I've got an unconfirmed ideaa.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6videos yes, but not the music player.
- kevnull, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6For those of you claiming that Google has had it around ("for years and years"), Google Suggest != Yahoo! Live Search. To use the example from the Y!Search Blog, doing a search starting with "NIH" will simply get you strings that start with NIH in Google Suggest whilst Y! Live Search seems to give additional possibilities and not just match the first three characters (such as "National Institute of Health" and "Not Invented Here").
- hansamurai, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Live search is pretty lame, Google had their own live search up years and years ago:
http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en - thrackle, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7As other people are starting to mention below, this already does work with Google.
This was one of the main features added to the search box in FireFox 2.0. This has always worked with Google. Yahoo! *just* added support for it. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Here is the original link: http://www.ysearchblog.com/archives/000324.html
- GuyHitByTruck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4But.. they aren't! Google's been doing this for years. There's also the option in the Google Toolbar for Firefox.
- wakaseoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4No, it's rather the opposite: when you look for his ass, you'll find out his assassination is more popular (which is quite a exception amongst personalities)
- richiejp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yahoo got a new user thanks to it's live search integration with Flock.
- spyres, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yahoo music works fine here with FF. Maybe you should try again.
- jdog1016, on 10/12/2007, -0/+31.x was never really in beta (not counting release candidates and developer builds). Pre-1.0 was the beta
- jrsims, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4This may be off subject, but I'd like to say that I'm so happy to see so much outside interest around Firefox. Companies like Yahoo, Google, and others all have a vested interest in the technology now, so we can be sure Firefox will be well supported for a long time to come. Moreover, Firefox is now a platform for companies to compete on.
It just hit me how great an arrangement this really is. Hope it stays that way. - rflint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Unlike Flock's Yahoo! feature, and unlike Google's Suggest, it sounds like the new Firefox feature is able to use anything."
The OpenSearch format was extended by Mozilla to support a new URL type. It supports any search engine capable of sending back results using JSON. There's more information and tips on implementing it in your own search plugins here: http://developer.mozilla.org/en/docs/Supporting_search_suggestions_in_search_plugins - ismoke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not to mention the results Yahoo give you are ***** compared to Google.
- RemoteSojourner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2First of Google suggest was release around December 2004 and Yahoo Instant search after that. Also Yahoo Instant search differs a lot from Google suggest.
- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if you have a Mac you can get google live search in Safari and Firefox with Inquisitor
http://www.inquisitorx.com/safari/
for everyone else
http://www.inquisitorx.com/beta/ - Xsecrets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I can confirm it works for google and I didn't install or configure anything. I have not used answers.com.
- wingnut21, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I'm happy for this feature. I've never used the search box because I love me some Google Suggest:
http://www.google.com/webhp?complete=1&hl=en - xtremesniper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well as far as I understood from the article, Once in Firefox, it works with all search engines too? That's pretty cool.
And for those who are saying Google had this before Yahoo, I don't know about the exact time Yahoo! released their version of it, but that's also been around for years. http://instant.search.yahoo.com/ - RemoteSojourner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes it does work for google and I am surprised with people saying Yahoo is first to implement. Search box had major changes for 2.0 (Bon Echo) and this was one of the main features of it. Google has been always supported. Yahoo is probably very new to this.
- vazquezjg74, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1inquisitorx is great!!
http://www.inquisitorx.com/beta/ - jefbob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Even if you cant get it to work in FF, try using the IE Tab extension. It might still be IE, but at least you can keep it in a tab inside FF
- sophiaperennis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yahoo! Live Search is very similar to Goog Suggest (Beta). I use both and don't want to go back to the old Search.
- asurroca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't think this is so much a great new feature so much as functionality required to keep up with the competition. It is definitely superior to Flock's implementation (although Flock's ability to search your bookmarks and history dynamically compensates).
- argotechnica, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using the Flock Beta 1 (v0.7.1 for Linux) for a while now, which has a live "top 5 Yahoo! results" feature in the search bar. http://www.flock.com/tour/search/
Unlike Flock's Yahoo! feature, and unlike Google's Suggest, it sounds like the new Firefox feature is able to use anything. ("search suggestions also appear for Google and Answers.com when they have been selected") Can anyone confirm this? - KernelSandirs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1wow I guess I just don't get it, this seems like really old technology, well the live search in the little search bar is just Google Suggest. the alltheweb.com thing is kinda cool but still the same as Suggest really. nothing to see here folks, move along.
- abigar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Edited
- nathum, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I dislike Yahell and have no heart for them. They destroyed our gaming community and sue people for using the word buddy. I hope Mozilla and Google do not end up like this. I support people that support the community and not take away from it. MOZILLA keep Yahell away from you and support Google!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0What is 'LIVE' search? Is it sort of like 'REALITY' search? Am I LIVE commenting right now on digg? BLORG! and the digg masses say...BLORG!
- glafira, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2Really Surprising to see Yahoo be the first people to do it.
- ksponge, on 10/12/2007, -8/+1Yeah seriously, if live search is as it sounds, what the heck is the point? That's absolutely useless.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -22/+3***** yahoo, they never bothered to make yahoo music compatible with FF,
and yes i know it can be done with activex but that's not the point. - benhorstmann, on 10/12/2007, -46/+2did Firefox 1.x ever officially leave beta? I'm anxious to see what 2.0 brings to the table, and how MS and Apple's new browser versions will compare.

What is Digg?
