- vuzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ok, here's a media player 101:
ALL media players use codecs. Codec means compressor/decompressor and it is what decompresses the compressed video. The movies you watch are all compressed (yes, also DVD's) and a codec is used to decompress the data so it can be shown. Anything else is impossible.
To sum up: VLAN uses codecs, just as all the other media players. - cool4u2view, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0VLAN aka VLC uses FFDShow internally... The latest VLC beta isn't fully h.264 ready.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does the latest K-Lite codec pack (http://www.codecguide.com/) contain spyware? After I installed K-Lite, Ad-aware didn't alert me to anything.
- Burrito, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe I'm missed something along the way, but why would I want media player classic?
- nugge7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No codecs with VLAN.

Well i like MPC because of the small memory footprint striped down UI and good playback. - aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I also wanted to note this includes FFDShow, a lot of "FFDSnobs" always say to me that "omg FFDShow is better all you neezorz" - This contains FFDShow, which is a great codec.
- aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Exactly, well put VUZMAN.
The difference here being that ALL your players can ues the codecs that this program installs. Meaning you dont need to rely only on VLan to play your DivX files, but can use Windows Media Player or WinAmp - Ravenlock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using k-lite without any complaints for some time. It's occasionally hard to find a 'legit' place to download the most recent version, but I think free-codecs.com (or something along those lines) usually has it.
That said, yes, more codec packs are always welcome. ;) - aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, and one that does not contain illegal codecs (IE Stolen or against the EULA]
- gookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i have no prob with K-lite codec pack. Best bundle IMHO, media player classic, bsplayer, real and quicktime alternative.
But it's always nice to see other codec packs, varying choices. - gookie, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0who cares about illegal codecs when most of the time they're used to watch illegally obtained movies anyway?
shoot me dead. - ncamp, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0It is a start of some great packaged codecs. Now I do not have to search all over the web. I hope they include more diverse codecs down the road.
