woohoo? - autobulb, on 01/12/2009, -3/+78Yeah seriously, what's the big deal? A Macbook has the same hardware as dozens of other laptops, this isn't special or a hack or modified or anything special.
- PrettyGreen, on 01/12/2009, -1/+75I'm reading an article on what I'm reading it on.
I just took a photo: http://i43.tinypic.com/2v157aa.jpg - inactive, on 01/12/2009, -2/+56I installed OSX on my Mac, that seems to be working out pretty well too.
- inactive, on 01/11/2009, -15/+58It really does look awesome. Much better than Vista anyway!
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -3/+44I still use Windows 3.1

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3120/3191869546_49b ... - PleaseJustDie, on 01/12/2009, -1/+29The same OS argument is lame.
98 was the same as 95 with tweaks.
2000 was NT4 with tweaks.
XP was 2000 with tweaks.
OSX 10.5 is OSX10.4 with tweaks.
The argument is lame, yes every generation OS is based on the previous so how much work is put into the kernel versus other parts of the operating system shouldn't matter. Between Vista and XP there was a large overhaul of many systems, similar to how there was a huge overhaul between 95 and 3.1. Many people didn't like 95 when it was released but 98 addressed most of those issues and because the OS most people liked.
Vista had a poor reception, but eventually patched itself into a pretty good OS and 7 continues that by reprogramming the parts that they couldn't fix by patching vista and making large, visible, changes to the UI.
Just because it has a nearly identical kernel doesn't change the fact that 7 is a pretty good OS. - R031E5, on 01/12/2009, -0/+27http://i44.tinypic.com/2e1u91g.jpg

- stimpyin, on 01/12/2009, -0/+24Why isn't the title simply "Man installs operating system on computer" becasue that is all this is. Hardly worthy of a front page story is it.
- JYoungest1, on 01/12/2009, -1/+24Grandma I seriously hate when you get online, your ruining it for everyone.
- lostarchitect, on 01/12/2009, -1/+22oh come on. as a mac user, i welcome a more stable windows that i can use to run autocad on my mac. I have already installed it under parallels and it is quicker than XP and Autocad has less quirks under it, too. So I'm happy.
- np0731, on 01/12/2009, -2/+22infernoX, it's about speed. windows 7 ultimate is doing EVERYTHING wicked fast. a ***** faster than vista. it's a lot more stable. backup and restore center (aka time machine for windows) actually works well this time, etc. this is a much bigger improvement than you give it credit for.

- konstantinos88, on 01/12/2009, -7/+26I don't see anything different.... the fact is that Windows 7 was built to be a more stable operating system rather than have any significant new features. Not sure why the guy made such a big deal about "Aero" either, it was on Windows Vista too.
I also noted that he said he "put it through some tests" -- were they similar to the test he showed us where he opened up notepad, calculator, and paint? Come on, the guy was recording with his cell phone...... this story is laaaaaaame......... - cyberdork, on 01/12/2009, -4/+22Kickass butterfly wallpaper!

- sirjimithy, on 01/12/2009, -5/+20Like I've always said: I really want Microsoft to do well. So far it seems that they haven't. As a Mac user, I love the level of innovation coming from how Apple integrates solutions. I think that everybody benefits from having two equal contenders in the ring. Looks like Windows 7 is on the right track. Here's hoping it stays that way!
- Zaggy111, on 01/12/2009, -1/+16adblock?
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -6/+20Why the ***** is this a big deal, or even on the front page. Yay! Look, I'm doing something that everyone has been doing since time began. Dual booting a beta OS on my computer...
BIG. *****. DEAL.... - foofiejnooner, on 01/12/2009, -0/+14I like the part with the ShamWOW commercial in the background!
- Flatlineskillz, on 01/12/2009, -0/+13I did this over the weekend myself while playing fallout 3 on my 360. I don't think it warrents being video taped. I can't stand to watch OS Installs on my own computer let alone someone elses.
A work of advice if your using bootcamp, biggest pain was the fact that between installing service pack 1 and then installing Windows 7 I feel like I had to restart 7 times. Every time I would step away and do something else I would miss my chance to boot to windows and OS X would boot up. If you want to make the process a little easier set your primary boot partition to windows before starting the setup. - DiggOrNotToDigg, on 01/12/2009, -0/+13Hilarious and geeky at the same time
- colasrtney, on 01/12/2009, -0/+12Is it [WITH VIDEO] though?
- UnWeave, on 01/12/2009, -0/+11Mine came with OS X pre-installed
:) - bluerei, on 01/12/2009, -6/+16What part of a system isn't UI related? Everything is controlled via a UI interface of some sort. If that's the case you can say that OS X hasn't had over 10 non-UI related changes since 2000 either. Now if you meant functionality, then that is a different story because I have found a lot more than 10 new features in Windows 7 and OS X.
- cre8tivate, on 01/12/2009, -0/+10Windows 7 - So easy, even a Win 3.1 caveman can do it!
- ethana2, on 01/12/2009, -0/+10"I think that everybody benefits from having two equal contenders in the ring."
Two isn't enough. ~Ubuntu user - reichg, on 01/12/2009, -0/+10i installed on my macpro a week ago runs better than anyother windows
- LJU1492, on 01/12/2009, -5/+14I have Windows 7 running in Virtual Box, it runs really well considering it's on a VM. so far, it's less resource intensive than vista, but can I find a way to use the "Classic" start bar... I think not :(
- nesstheking1, on 01/12/2009, -0/+9I hate Realtek... Why would you want to add a stone corridor effect to your audio!?
- 4NDr01D, on 01/12/2009, -0/+9Buy, is the correct spelling ;)
- britblogger, on 01/12/2009, -1/+9did his MBP just say "bye"?
- kayamm, on 01/12/2009, -0/+8I don't see *****, what is this glossy thing?
- rockon4life45, on 01/12/2009, -0/+7windows 7 is the ***** so far, less resources than vista and twice the snappiness, installing it on a seperate hard drive on a pentium 4 xp machine now to see how it holds up.
- smoger, on 01/12/2009, -3/+10"What part of a system isn't UI related?"
Literally EVERY part of it that you don't see, which is a ton. - J3CHT, on 01/12/2009, -3/+10I just find it funny. Who cares if they have "corrupted" their Mac?
- JoshuaLowe, on 01/12/2009, -3/+10It's a nice coat of paint on Vista, and it seems to outperform XP in just about every metric. I'm also running it on a Mac, as a VM under Fusion. It's been stable so far, I like at least having the option to run Linux and Windows on my machine.
- Zlorp, on 01/12/2009, -2/+9yeah what a crime! some retard neanderthal must be wanting to do something stupid, like play games, or have 10000 times the software options, what an idiot.
- zombiecarlin, on 01/12/2009, -1/+8Speed, stability and memory management, the only differences anyone needed.
- inactive, on 01/12/2009, -0/+7Come on what? There's a purpose to Bootcamp, Parallels, and VM software to PC users that you must not understand, which is just really using it for what it can run, and if it's a different OS, why not like the fact that it opens you up to thousands of programs that wouldn't normally run on a mac OS? It may not all be open source, and some software costs money, but there are such things as freeware and for the costly programs, Demonoid/TPB etc. Asking why someone would want to install Windows 7 on a mac is truly ignorant questions that is really made to piss people off and perhaps just gives you a stiffy by using the word "Mac", You still have a "computer", just like everyone else.
- Jambi, on 01/12/2009, -6/+12How exactly does it look better than Vista? Other than the new taskbar, the UI is pretty much exactly the same as Vista's. Same glass look, same "action bar" on explorer windows, same type of menu... having tried it, I'll confirm that it's quite a bit faster than Vista, and doesn't eat up as much RAM, but the look is one of the things that hasn't changed much. (which is really too bad, since I happen to think that the Vista UI is annoying to use)
- FruitFocker, on 01/12/2009, -2/+8Contrary to popular belief there is more to a Mac than OS X.
Am I feeding the troll? Dammit. - Lacero, on 01/12/2009, -1/+7nicer: http://digg.com/general_sciences/Nicest_Pic_of_Bra ...
- JYoungest1, on 01/12/2009, -0/+5Back up works quite well with vista now, 7 will be even better.
- uncwidiot, on 01/12/2009, -2/+7I'm gonna pistol whip the next one of you that says "the cloud."
Seriously, am I the only one who hates that term? - Kelmon, on 01/12/2009, -3/+8Just as a matter of interest, what was that market share 5-years ago? Microsoft has been on the slide for years now with all its major products with the exception of the XBox. They still dominate the markets but not as much as they used to and the competition continues to profit at Microsoft's loss. Perhaps Windows 7 will stop the slide.
