- icespide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1obsolete
- Albertpacino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I downloaded it from Majorgeeks & its 5.094, it seems its still 5.093 on winamp site, anyways here is the direct link to the 5.094 .exe from major geeks...

- daddypopp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0They must've pulled it.
- icabod540, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I didn't think people still used winamp.
- spartan777, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0everyone uses winamp!
- tfratzke, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I didn't think people still used winamp."
Are you kidding me? You must be young. Winamp is still king in my book. - keybsnbits, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0What icabod540 said... nobody with a brain uses winamp :) hehe
- icabod540, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0How am I young? I was around when Winamp was first released.
- LeegleechN, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I thought AOL stopped development on Winamp.
- nicepants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The majorgeeks.com link doesn't work now either.
- Albertpacino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's working here guys, http://www.majorgeeks.com/Winamp_5_Full_d2490.html
- Ssullivan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0winamp really sucks these days, well I like xmms.
- Albertpacino, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here is a screen shot of the change log,
http://img122.imageshack.us/img122/5826/11ff.jpg - DeVS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0XMMS, give me a break.
- Massif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using Winamp forever. Still use it for pretty much all my media. The thing I hate about it now is that it STILL doesn't have an automated downloader. I'm sick of having to go to winamp.com to download a .001 patch. It should have a built in downloader!
Also they should add some kind of support for podcasting since it's getting so big now. I assume they will do that with the next large release. - icabod540, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I think winamp started going down hill when 3.0 was launched.
- dhoefler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1HUH!? No one uses Winamp anymore?!!? Oh yea, being 'fashionably in' by using iTunes and a Powerbook is the better way to go (sarcasm). (I like Powerbooks and think they're a wonderful machine, but it's those people that drive me nuts for the soul purpose of using them only with iTunes and watching music videos that get on my nerves!)
Anways... Wow... I must be behind the times then.
Maybe lightweight media players are a thing of the past? I forgot that it's a lot cooler to have your media player act as a store front so you can purchase more music, watch videos constantly, and create play lists constantly (more sarcasm).
Winamp loads fast, flexible, numerous plugins are available allowing different playback formats, skin-able and has been around for a long time. Of course all these other media players allow those options as well. I've used Winamp since 1997 (version 1) from what I recall and have never used another piece of media software, nor do I plan on it.
Crazy kids thinking Windows Media Player is king. - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Winamp blows... XMMS is allright, not bad for open source at least.
I use a boatload of different media player apps...
Yahoo Music Engine (believe it or not, its a good media player)
Xbox Media Center (greatest app for a modded xbox ever!)
Windows Media Player (probably the worst media player out there, but I'm to lazy to open anything else up...) - russ519, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think everyone should boycott Winamp after their recent remote disabling of ability to play WMA files and forcing everyone to upgrade. I'm not crazy about the idea of a company being able to remotely (and without knowledge) alter programs on your machine.
- icabod540, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I wonder why people think when someone uses iTunes or a pbook they're doing it because its popular. Ever think that they might like the UI and funtionality more then everything else.
- GGUYER, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0OK, I may be missing the point here, but why is this a story? Is there really a big change in this version?
- heatpackrat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0hmmm well i have about 35000 songs in my library and winamp takes up 60 megs of memory while its running... anyone know of any better program to use for big libraries?
oh, also, is anyone particularly satisfied with a song-auto-name-correcting-program? - jherubin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still use Winamp 2.95...what more do you need in a player beyond that? After 2.95 it just got way too bloated for my liking. Sometimes the latest and greatest isn't the best. If you're like me you can it here: http://www.oldversion.com/
- gronne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Winamp's still my choice. All the others are bloated and annoying.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0For a song naming program, try "The Godfather" http://users.otenet.gr/~jtcliper/tgf/
Great program, and it's free!
Also, You may want to switch to a lighter weight program (a generic one), that should help. - G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"Winamp's still my choice. All the others are bloated and annoying."
Winamp is extremely bloated, and extremely annoying. - protoCulture, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I still use WinAMP, primarily, but am surprised nobody's mentioned foobar2000 with all this talk about 'light' players. No wma in WinAMP? When did that happen? Forced upgrade? Joke? Must've missed it.
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0foobar2000 is a great app, it just needs some more ;)
A few months ago, after the Napster-2-Go "tweak", where you could use Winamp to rip songs, AOL released an update, and made everyone upgrade..... You can play WMA's in Winamp, but they are DRM'ed to death. - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just switched to jet audio media player...pretty nice....easy to burn cd's and such too.
- Slayz0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use iTunes and foobar2000. iTunes is too bulky to open individual files so I just leave it when I want to access my entire music collection. foobar2000 is clean and simple, it takes less than 2 seconds to open on my IBM laptop so I use it when I want to listen to an individual song or listen to an album with gapless playback. Winamp is a great all-in-one app that I used to use, but I find iTunes is better at organizing the music.
- Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0although I forgot you can use milkdrop visualization with winamp which is very cool
- iamtheshow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0doesn't the software world have enough holy wars?
just use what works for you, jeez. - gronne, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@G-Razor
Not if you use the "lite" version. - PrimoTurbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Out of all programs which one uses the lowest ram? I still think it's winamp, I'm getting 1,484K with 1 album open (12 songs), with Foobar I get 2mb. Plus the shoutcast stuff is really good.
- titanass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I too still use winamp to play all my video and audio media but I think im ready to move to a new player, I just tried the few above mentioned players(foobar2000,godfather,itunes,xmms) and I dont like them half as much as winamp. Are there any other programs that play all media types and look and function better than the other mentioned ones, must play all audio and video and an easy to use media library? I like DB Poweramp but it doesnt play my video files err.
- Guti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Every 0.0001 release of winamp is going to get digged like this?
Its a nice application! just remember it can't cude cancer or aids. - Guti, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0*cure
- Billdozer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've probably saved myself about $75 by previewing new albums on Winamp (IN THEIR ENTIRETY) rather than going out and buyin them and finding out they sucked. Sorry iTunes, but 30 sec clips just don't cut it for me.
- Smoktiludy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"although I forgot you can use milkdrop visualization with winamp which is very cool"
That's the greatest visualization ever. I always watch it on my TV through XBMC when listening to audio. - chrisdelta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0KJOFOL! .VQF! I remember thinking that .vqf was going to save the world..
- mdramige, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I haven't used Winamp since 2.81. When they added video support, I bailed. I use Foobar2000 in Windows and XMMS in Linux.
- rifter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0First of all winamp is still a pretty good player. To those of you who say it isn't are on crack. You are probably some ipod fanatic/wmp fanatic, etc. Ipod is ok along with itunes. But as far as a small very modularized program Winamp takes the cake imo.
I'll admit the best version was probably 2.79 before 3 (as Winamp 3 sucked balls and nullsoft knew this) Which is why they worked hard and fast to get 5 out.
As far as Xmms is concerned, whomever said that is king must have forgotten that it was a conversion of winamp. Yes it loads the tracks much, much faster, but I'm not so sure that is due to the programming of the application or of Linux itself. I have yet to learn enough linux that in depth.
Comparing xmms and winamp is like comparing gaim to aim. The point is moot. 2 completely different Os's and structuring. - OverHeadCam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ever since AOL has had their paws in Winamp, I've been using Quintessential Player. It's basically what Winamp used to be: a simple, nice looking mp3 player (default skin not withstanding.) I'm a big fan of the on-the-fly skin browser.
http://www.quinnware.com/
Not particularly fancy, but it does what it's supposed to do. - spikey04, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd probably be using iTunes now, but because it has so little support for open source formats like vorbis and FLAC it's pointless for me to use. So I stick to Winamp, I just wish it didn't have video support.
as for video... Media Player Classic is the way to go, it's light weight and has awesome controls, the only set back is that you need to install the codecs yourself (unlike vlc). - LinkinJunior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://forums.winamp.com/showthread.php?s=bd02bb9da3ed5cf7d22366f107f55b96&threadid=221801
- LinkinJunior, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ipod plugin was updated also:
http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=106528&package_id=114821&release_id=343122 - RichM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use WinAmp all the time since I run a SHOUTcast stream. Work's great IMO.
- psyonide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Winamp is, in my opinion, the best media player for audio. I get the impression that those people who say "winamp sucks, use (insert obscure player nobody's heard of here) is way better!" just do that to be cool.
