- canewediggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8while at work, i keep a window open that is always on the upcoming spy. i like the upcoming section much more because i get exposed to a wider variety of content (although it means suffering through every dupe, breaking!!!!, and dumb ass story submitted as well). plus, it allows me to digg users that might not otherwise get any love because they're not so popular.
i equate it to music shopping. some people go and buy whatever they hear on the radio or is being heavily promoted, i like to engage in a little crate digging to find those hidden gems. one of these days, i'll start on a regular blog posting of "best of the buried" where i choose 10 or so stories that i thought were great but never got anywhere (it's just a bit too time consuming which is why i haven't done it yet).
pretty good wrtite-up, my only major point of contention is the desire for some recognition on the part of digging stories that get promoted. this whole "give me recognition" mindset (in this case and the case of user rankings) is a waste of time. i'm not digging for accolades, i'm digging for the love of interesting reading.
just my $.02 - Lord_oftheTrons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I agree, but I'll have to try out the Bigspy "newly submitted". Typically I peruse the upcoming section in cloud view and look around for stories that catch my eye.
- UglieJosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Bigspy's "newly submitted" section is my best friend. It is how I find this story. If you look at my stories dugg area, you will see that most of the stories I Digg are upcoming ones. People like Cane and me are important because we are responsible for deciding what stories our fellow Diggers might be interested in.
Plus, we often find ourselves with the first comment. That always feels good. - laceym, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I only digg upcoming stories. After they made it to the front page, why digg it?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0It's easy to display the new stories submitted by your friends:

You can also Digg upcoming stories conveniently from the cloud view, which shows a large number of story titles on the page:
