- razei, on 10/12/2007, -5/+114I tried getting a not-so computer literate friend of mine to switch to Firefox when I was talking to her on IM, and she said 'but i cant switch, i already have fiber-optics!'.
- Anubis2051, on 10/12/2007, -1/+101Yes, thats what the article said.
- kluge, on 10/12/2007, -10/+80IE 6.0:
You are a website developer. You use IE 6 all the time to develop, because if you don't, 99% of your users are going to notice the glaring guillotine bug that you didn't see in Firefox. - EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+71I've got my grandma on Firefox. All you have to do is install it with all the right extentions, and then replace every shortcut to Internet Explorer you can find with Firefox. They only complain if they *know* it isn't Internet Explorer, so if possible change the icon for your firefox shortcuts too.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -3/+37how are you using digg then
- skullbullet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34It reads like a really bad MySpace bulletin... some funny moments, though. Gotta love Lynx, though... text-based browsers, yeah baby!
- glafira, on 10/12/2007, -3/+33I am gonna take a guess that 90% of the people reading this are firefox users, and the IE users are like "there are other browsers?"
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -28/+57These explanations are a bit shallow. While many computer-illiterate people may use IE, there are many people who are well-versed with computers that use IE because it fits their needs. They need the internet for searching Google, maybe checking their GMail, and few other things. They don't need an extension to download videos on YouTube, an extension to spellcheck for them, or an extension to customize each page however they like.
Moreover, this entire article is quite biased, judging the very people that they're analyzing. It assumes that everyone who uses Windows is an ignorant fool who has either never heard of Linux or thinks it is evil.
I despise the 'Windows users are imbeciles' stereotype that is rampant with geeks. Windows has far more supported software than any other OS out there, and that software meets all of the needs that I'll need in the forseeable future. And while I am aware that Windows emulators on other OSes have come a long way, I prefer to run Windows applications on their native platform. - kilodelta, on 10/12/2007, -6/+35"I often tend to judge people based on the type of browser they use."
5 bucks says this guy is still a virgin. - kodek, on 10/12/2007, -5/+32It was pretty bad, "You use opera, so that means you paid them in the past."
Not really. I use opera because it's free and because I like it. I would never pay for it. - neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25I use wget and render the page in my mind.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+26Flock means you are a geek-hipster, and enjoy all the virtues of Web 2.0 no matter how sloppy the implementation
- phpirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23This is VERY true! I use opera and everything it says in there fits what I think to the last letter.
- mike3point14159, on 10/12/2007, -0/+23What, no love for Camino?
- aOenEz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+26I apologize. Got a little too excited there and posted too soon. It's not Firefox biased (well, not really), it's just anti-IE. Sigh.
- stephenwq, on 10/12/2007, -8/+30This is about as accurate as those terrible online tests and star sign predictions.
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24Camino means you're stuck in the 80's, and think you're cool because you car's actually a truck, and vice-versa. What's that? Oh...never mind.
- Nobi-Wan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21I have Camino, where is that on his list?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24IE: Most people
Firefox: Geek
Opera: Geek - CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Well gee that's not biased at all. *Yawn*
- armbar, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21At least it's correctly biased :)
- MrDiaz, on 10/12/2007, -3/+17One more attempt to make us laugh. I really enjoy these type of articles because they have all one thing in common. (they're all the same) yeah they all say what an ass you are for using IE, and how smart you are for using Firefox, etc... the story goes and goes, and actually that is all so wrong. People use browsers (at least most of us) as a matter of personal preference. Me for example, bc I cannot speak for others, I use all of those important browsers. I like to design web pages and I HAVE to use all browsers to test, try and have fun with my sites. That's the way it goes, and that's the way it has to be.
Now I could just go ahead and make a nice little review of those browsers just to prove you that you are one more time wrong with your article, but hey, that could be just one more article we might submit. - appleswitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14you guys are weak, I just patched my dialup to a pair of headphones and a mic
- dtfinch, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15"Netscape 8.x: You are a senior citizen, ..."
That one made me laugh. - pairanoyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Konqueror.. Analysis, dead on..
- Morph_Ball, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14I kinda wish I could half-digg this article...
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16No Alefox???
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Camino means you are certifiably cool
- EnderWalcott, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11@Araya213
There are two possible ways you can do this in Opera. One is sessions: open up the pages that you want and go to File>Sessions>Save this Session... Then you can either select that session whenever you want or set it to open that session when you first start Opera (Tools>Preferences>General>Startup).
Another way is to bookmark the pages you want in a separate folder and then go to Bookmarks>"Folder name">Open all folder items.
Is that what you had in mind? - AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13The only thing this incredibly poorly written blog entry shows is what browser he uses.
- raindogmx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Saying "I use Lynx." after reading the article is a logic joke. Very intelligent.
Sorry but he outsmarted you. You should check the article again to get the joke. - RyanDaRin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I'll bet ten bucks that he's probably only like 15
- IQ70, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@mikeandke: You really must have a diverse group of friends :)
- ScottZed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Wrong - if you accidentally close Firefox or Opera you don't lose squat. Just re-open the application and it is restored to the state it was before you screwed up. This may be true for other browsers as well, but it sure isn't the case for IE. Tab-based browsing is the best advance the human race has made since the invention of the wheel, and rivals the discovery of fire.
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11This comment from the site gave rise to my mac fanboy hating rage
"# Eilleen (princessatine) Says:

Though I am a obsessive compulive Safari user, I do use Firefox 2.0 Beta+. Unfortunately, not everyone (WinBlows users) believes in the power of the Mac, and my best option for certain sites is Firefox. When i do use a machine w/ WinBlows, I *must* use Firefox or else I shed tears. No one wants to see a pretty girl cry. Snot is not pretty and neither is IE."
btw, firefox 1.* here - ddrirc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8@kodek: same, although I realize that it isn't meant to be the most accurate. :P
I will be buying the DS Lite Opera browser though... - davdav, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Camino?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Using Parallels.
- cesclaveria, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I think it shows more what browser he hates, IE.
- cesclaveria, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8"I use wget and render the page in my mind."
Then try using a package sniffer (Ethereal) to catch all the info about the page, and then render it... a new level of l33tn3s - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7On my mac I have Safari, Firefox, and IE7. I use them all, and sure I have my favorite, but you can't really stereotype people (unless they use AOL). People usually just use what they're most comfortable with and what most suits their needs. Firefox has cool extensions some people use, and others wouldn't have a use for them. Safari is clean and pretty and IE7....well, I dunno, is like Firefox's disabled half brother? Someone I'm sure could vouch for it.
- espek, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11"I often tend to judge people based on the type of browser they use."
What a jackass. - ocram, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I agreed with the first 2 sentences. I wouldn't pay for software when there are (decent) free alternatives, I subscribe to the notion of not feeding the trolls, and I am not foolish enough to believe that anything other than IE will be the dominant browser while Windows is the dominant OS - I just hope that the next version of IE does a better job of complying with and keeping up with the W3C standards.
- Crackshot, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Come on man
"the tabs are annoying" - Do you hate the thought of multitasking or do you just like the thought of having 13 windows opened up on your desktop at once. - Crackshot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It means that you have multiple personality disorder,
and so do you,
and you,
and also you - cesclaveria, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7yeah, and the love for KDE too. I think something like Konqueror is what MS had in mind with the IE/explorer.exe integration.
- Hootyea, on 10/12/2007, -12/+17I use Lynx.
- neko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Very subtle.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11Those are some dead-on observations. I dont know that many I.E. users would agree with them, but they're dead on none the less.
I loved this part: "You really don’t care if FF is faster, or safer than IE - you would use it even if it performed 10 times worse. You are just happy that you have a free, open source browser with a huge community that is supporting it. At any given time you have installed at least 7 extensions that you couldn’t live without." - aOenEz, on 10/12/2007, -22/+27This article is so Firefox slanted it's outrageous. Just because you don't use Firefox you have to be completely computer illiterate? My mom's cousin works in IT and has also been a software developer since he was in his teens (he's 38 now). He uses IE because he knows how to keep his computer generally safe and doesn't do anything online that would compromise him anyway. And not only is it Firefox biased, it also has a mass majority (I suspect) of Firefox users completely wrong. All of my friends and I use Firefox religiously yet none of us are on any distro of linux, and we're not exactly "fans" of the open source movement (hey, I'm not hating on it, I just don't use a lot of open souce apps).
