- kevdude421, on 04/17/2008, -1/+21Or you could, you know, go outside.
- deuceswilde, on 04/17/2008, -0/+13Maybe not to most people, but speaking as a subterranean dwelling mole-person I think it's tremendously exciting.
- supermajic, on 04/17/2008, -0/+11The word 'photorealistic' gets thrown around a lot these days.
- inactive, on 04/17/2008, -2/+8Can't wait for the final release it's going to be awesome.
- streetstealth, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4Roundtrip airfare for me to SF: $500
Download Google Earth: $0
Only thing is I can't eat at Brandy Ho's that way. - br0ken1128, on 04/17/2008, -0/+4Not sure why he's dug down .. except it's not 3D .. it's bird's eye view, which is awesome if you ask me.. I would love it if google maps implemented something like that because otherwise google maps is perfect ...
I have way too much fun with bird's eye view. - Rosco, on 04/17/2008, -0/+3Agreed, I prefer to go outside to view the sunset. always nice to watch the sun go down over Lake Michigan, especially during the summer months.
- jsbee, on 04/17/2008, -1/+4The implications of this technology are enormous. We've gone from stitched-together photographs, to clunky gray models, to photorealistic 3D models. In 5 years, the resolution and quality of these things (in major cities) will be absolutely astonishing. In 10 years, you'll be able to experience a "virtual" form of outside, therefore never having to actually go outside.
I know somebody on the GEarth dev team, and he says the reason they included the "virtual sunrise" feature is to provide essential Vitamin D, which up until now you had to get from the outdoors. No longer! - pxmm, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Fix the Vista x64 4GB low resolution problem for F's sake Google
- xekko, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2I'm glad they've made the Earth look a bit more realistic now with a night/day shadow, and added an blue atmospheric hue.
- lianculta, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Looks like low quality/low resolution images to me.
- comradeTJH, on 04/17/2008, -0/+2Swiss sunset! Nice choice :-)
- ambion, on 04/20/2008, -0/+1What is this "outside" you refer to? Does it have good graphics? What is the physics engine like?
- Adenosine, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1This version rocks. But, what cities have the "photorealistic" buildings? So far, for me, only San Francisco.
Please list others - Steinr, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1NEW YORK!
- mickmel, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Dozens of them -- Atlanta, Phoenix, Denver, Seattle, Miami, etc.
- SolidSnake24, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1I wanted a bigger improvement to the flight simulator :(
- ryanbutterworth, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1Is anything on digg?
- ajaypathak, on 04/19/2008, -0/+1gr8 video
http://readerszone.com/microsoft/tracing-the-path- ... - ryanbutterworth, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1This release has a flight sim. I'm surprised that this story wasn't about that..
- Stevethegreat, on 04/17/2008, -0/+1You see the sunset in Switzerland from you home? Great!
In other news, Google Earth is becoming a better and more realistic tool all the time, letting you -one day- to have a quick REAL look to a place that you would never have time in your REAL LIFE to visit because you live only 80 years in this wretched earth and you would need more than 10 times that to see all the worthwhile places in this planet.
I welcome any move to realism from Google Earth because it would be irrational not to do so, (not cynical, because cynics are logical creatures..). - Pokelicious, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Do you want a bet on that? ;)
- JPamplin, on 04/17/2008, -1/+1Anyone have a direct download link? Google Updater just doesn't do it for me (having to run as a service, setting BITS to Automatic, etc.).
- inactive, on 04/17/2008, -0/+0Google Earth is amazing. Does anyone know if it has street view for Canadian cities?
- AlexMorph, on 04/17/2008, -7/+6Is this really that big of a deal?
- mjw2025, on 04/17/2008, -2/+0My mistake and thanks for reminding me.
I can't believe that maps.live.com isn't as well known. I've shown it to people that think there's nothing better than Google Earth that are suddenly blown away by the detail. - mjw2025, on 04/17/2008, -11/+6Awesome is http://maps.live.com . Much better resolution and the 3D isn't realistic. It's real. I wish that they would have a client to download like Google Earth.
- Adam420, on 04/17/2008, -11/+3Still sucks and images are still crappy and outdated.
Windows live one is soooo much better, especially with birds eye view. - DjBlic, on 04/17/2008, -19/+2Dude, this is sooo boring.
