- dreggen, on 06/06/2008, -4/+126It's been a long time since IE has been anywhere near Firefox!
- mattus, on 06/06/2008, -3/+102"He is there to cater to the tech illiterates of the business world."
And the 'tech illiterates' are exactly the kind of people to whom Firefox needs to appeal if it's truly going to take on IE in terms of market share. It's never gonna get beyond 20% relying solely on geeks, semi-geeks and people with geeky friends! Good review. - praveenmarkandu, on 06/06/2008, -21/+105im a huge firefox fan. i use the nightlies even. but is walt mossberg supposed to be respected in some way? he is like the worst tech journalist around. he is there to cater to the tech illiterates of the business world. he doesnt even mention opera. his reviews on the Macbook Air and the iPhone were HIGHLY bias.
- Shadowgamers, on 06/06/2008, -32/+92Who the ***** is Mossburg, and why the ***** should I care what he says?
- Asdfglpwglion, on 06/06/2008, -1/+39IE sucks - tentative digg up.
X is the best ever - excessive fanboyism - tentative digg down
ALL CAPS and exclamation marks!!!!- definite digg down
Total: digg down - Omek, on 06/06/2008, -2/+36I haven't tried it yet, but I hope it's true. I'm currently a Safari user, but I will switch if Firefox runs a little faster.
- Netik09, on 06/06/2008, -1/+31It runs way faster. I've been using it for a while. Thumbs up!
- SuperSneaks, on 06/06/2008, -1/+25Whats wrong with FF2? Are you actually trying to say that IE7 is better than FF2?
- matriculated, on 06/06/2008, -3/+25I don't know why you guys are bitching about who he is. He's trying to spread Firefox to the masses. Help him out ffs.
- init100, on 06/06/2008, -4/+25"but is walt mossberg supposed to be respected in some way? he is like the worst tech journalist around."
You apparently haven't read John C. Dvorak's columns. - bbatsell, on 06/06/2008, -1/+21While I agree that he isn't the best tech journo around, he's hardly the worst. I just re-read those two reviews and had a very hard time identifying why they were "HIGHLY bias (sic)". It's clear you disagree with their contents; that does not make them "biased." I suggest leaving the extreme hyperbole at home.
- srujanlive, on 06/06/2008, -10/+24Has he even heard of something called Opera???
- morninglorii, on 06/06/2008, -0/+14"I have tried it with well over 100 Web sites."
I love how this is said like it's some amazing accomplishment. That's like saying "I am an ice cream fanatic. I have tried over 4 flavors." - inactive, on 06/06/2008, -1/+15Dvorak is a professional troll, he argues the unpopular side of controversial issues to generate hits and magazine sales. I think he has even said this before. Pretty good strategy too, otherwise you wouldn't even know his name.
- elbekko, on 06/06/2008, -0/+14Too bad page rendering still sucks in IE. Slight usability oversight there.
- whiteeagle131, on 06/06/2008, -3/+16He should have mentioned Opera because it uses its own rendering engine, unlike the forks of Firefox (Galeon, Epiphany - it uses Webkit from now on), IE (Avant, Maxthon etc.), Safari (Shiira, Epiphany, iCab etc.) and Konqueror is has a very small usage, though it uses KHTML its own rendering engine.
So, I didn't like this article.
Firefox + Flash on Linux is a hassle, its a huge bloat, but I do know its Adobe's fault I can't see why Opera n Linux doesn't have this issues.
And, btw, Opera out of the box is very much better than Firefox without extensions.
IF you want to try the latest snapshot of Opera, download it here http://my.opera.com/desktopteam/blog . - FyberOptic, on 06/06/2008, -9/+19Again no mention of Opera, so his opinion is worthless.
- TheWindBlows, on 06/06/2008, -0/+9opera can be theme'd without restarting it.
- Chairboy, on 06/06/2008, -6/+15They plant little test packets of drugs in luggage occasionally at airports so the sniffer dogs don't get frustrated because they're not finding anything. It's a standard practice that helps keep the dogs trained, alert, and on the job. It can startle the passenger picked sometimes, but it's usually not a big deal.
Firefox performs the same function for Linux developers. - bpapa, on 06/06/2008, -1/+10If his Air and iPhone articles were biased, why isn't he showing a bias for Safari here?
- insanebrain, on 06/06/2008, -3/+11huh ? FF is so awesome. .. it must be your computer itself that is the problem ;)
/s - dgaspard, on 06/06/2008, -4/+12So rare when someone on digg makes since... +2 if I could.
- Arramol, on 06/06/2008, -3/+11Opera reminds me of OS X....good product, but with a vocal fan base that gets bent out of shape way too easily. As soon as I saw the headline, I knew there'd be people complaining on behalf of Opera. Not to say that there aren't fanboys of other browsers, especially Firefox, but per capita, Opera seems to generate a lot more. If you just made an insightful comment examining the benefits of Opera, perhaps asserting why you thought it should've been considered the best, that'd be one thing, but slamming his journalism because he didn't mention a browser with ~1% desktop market share? Come on.
- smergs, on 06/06/2008, -0/+8I've installed FF3 RC2 on my work pc and I really like it. it actually was a big improvement over RC1 for me. Except for at work, I've been pretty much using Firefox primarily since version 1.5 or so.
Has anyone here tried Opera lately? Anyone know how it compares. I really don't see a reason to switch off of Firefox now but I've been thinking about checking out Opera again. Just wondering if it's worth my time or if I really am that much better off sticking with Firefox. - init100, on 06/06/2008, -4/+12Shouldn't he mention Epiphany, Konqueror, Galeon, Seamonkey, etc, too? :P
- HigherLogic, on 06/06/2008, -2/+9Well that's because FF needs those extensions to become a capable browser. Opera, on the other hand, doesn't need extensions. You simply download and go on your way. Most of the popular extensions that people download for FF are already builtin to Opera.
- MrViklund, on 06/06/2008, -0/+7Hah. It's based on the same engine dude... Placebo for the win...
- VyRuZ, on 06/06/2008, -0/+7Makes sense*
There, I fixed it. - inactive, on 06/06/2008, -16/+23Well, Firefox WOULD be the best... if Opera didn't exist.
But it does, and it owns Firefox in everyway.
Better ACID3 score.
Faster JS parsing.
Better CSS3 Score.
More secure.
More fast.
Less bugs. - fsuarez2005, on 06/06/2008, -7/+14Best browser BUT, on Linux memory leakage and core dumps.
- Shadowgamers, on 06/06/2008, -3/+10You know, there are other countries out there too, countries that don't sell the WSJ.
- sfury, on 06/06/2008, -1/+7when you say that a browser is "the BEST" and compare it to is alternatives in an article, you'd better have some balls not to mention Opera
don't get me wrong, I use Firefox daily, I love the extensions and many other things, but when it comes to fast, intuitive and lightweight browsing I have yet to see something beat Opera, and generally that is what I prefer to experience from my browser - Motocompo, on 06/06/2008, -0/+6picky picky picky...
- ferrisnox, on 06/06/2008, -1/+7The latest Opera Beta is better in my Opinion than Firefox 3 RC2. Its faster, easier to use, and better looking too also most of the cool features in FF3 were ripped from Opera.
- whiteeagle131, on 06/06/2008, -5/+11Out of the box, you have adblocker ( http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/opera/ ), mail, irc, developer tools (dragonfly - equivalent to firebug), NNTP client, notes, you can install widgets, full feeds support (unlike Firefox), skins, stumbleupon as a menu ( www.operastumbler.com ) ...
Do I need to continue?
OK..
Speed dial, sync bookmarks, notes and speed dial with Opera servers to have them across many computers *and* mobile phones, better about:config, the ability to disable plugins, JS, animated GIFs and Java with F12, the ability to mask and identify as other browsers, thumbnails when you ctrl-tab, no need for greasemonkey there is UserJS, the best customisability of toolbars...
Enough? - astrotrain, on 06/06/2008, -2/+8I've been using Firefox for years now... and yes I used Opera before that when they had the adware banners at the top of Opera for a while. And I still fire up IE when new "promising" new features come out for it. But so far I find Firefox the King of the Browser Mountain. Its safe, fast and most of all secure. So while Microsoft is working on its next 'attempt' for IE (later this year), I'll be happy using Firefox3 (final)... I am currently using the RC2 version now, and yes, it blows IE away... simple as that.
- bpapa, on 06/06/2008, -0/+6I'm a fan of Mossberg, great writer for the masses, but this test is just retarded:
"For example, using a new Dell XPS One desktop, I opened identical folders containing the same 16 bookmarks on both IE 7 and Firefox 3.0. IE took 37 seconds to completely display the 16 pages, but the new Firefox did it in just 23 seconds. On a new Apple iMac, I did a similar, but more daunting, test -- opening identical folders containing 24 bookmarks. Safari rendered all of the pages in 36 seconds, but the new Firefox finished the job in 32 seconds."
It's only a valid benchmark if the devs intended to support this kind of functionality, which I'd assume they didn't. Nowheres near a typical use case. - rkzda, on 06/06/2008, -3/+8It's still rare for people to use the proper version of certain words when forming a sentence. You made no sense.
- max1018, on 06/06/2008, -0/+5300k isn't bad!
Yeah I know, typo. - R031E5, on 06/06/2008, -1/+6Ok, I'm not going to say that "Appleologist" is wrong. Firefox is the most compelling browser ever, but lets remember that Firefox (OS X) is carbon based and Safari is cocoa based, ergo the scrolling in safari feels better than firefox's. Anything else, Safari is not even close to Firefox.
- bubut, on 06/06/2008, -1/+6I always look to popular newspapers for tech advice. Same goes for political endorsements.
- RetepNamenots, on 06/06/2008, -0/+5Steve Jobs didn't give him an early copy.
- trollick, on 06/06/2008, -1/+6I stopped using IE when it came out with the toolbar sharing the same space as tabs. It was a clear indication that MS does not care about porn browsing community.
- S7aind, on 06/06/2008, -0/+5Adblock alone makes FF better
- mateo60, on 06/06/2008, -0/+5Webkit is so nice. : ) Especially with the new Javascript tweaks.
- trunkster, on 06/06/2008, -4/+9Yeah he doesn't even know that Apple does give previews for Safari; Webkit is an open source project:
http://nightly.webkit.org/ - Shadowgamers, on 06/06/2008, -4/+9Considering that Opera thought of tabbed browsing first too :V
- MrViklund, on 06/06/2008, -0/+5I bury you!
- johnnysaucepn, on 06/06/2008, -2/+6And, it doesn't render sites like *****. It renders sites beautifully. It even renders ***** sites well. But still, garbage in, garbage out, as they used to say.

What is Digg?
The Digg Toolbar for Firefox lets you Digg, submit content, and keep track of Digg even when you're not on the Digg site. Download the official
