- ClassicQ, on 05/08/2009, -1/+39Good luck with that, I don't think there'll be too many takers, @ $9.99, or even free. Azureus blows, and got worse with the Vuze makeover. The are already free portable alternatives, in utorrent and Deluge [ http://portableapps.com/node/12115 ] (it's an older version of Deluge but, hey it works).
I fail to see why anyone needs a portable version of a bittorrent client is needed anyway. - alex7575, on 05/09/2009, -1/+26I'm downloading Vuze Portable (TPB) using the regular Vuze client.
Irony FTW! - prompel, on 05/09/2009, -1/+16http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/4681826

uTorrent - Small, Efficient & Portable!
Many a times I finish my semi-downloaded torrent file on some friends comp by transferring the file & copying the uTorrent folder in "Application Data" folder. So portability is fricking awesome!
Go for uTorrent. - kokoshka, on 05/09/2009, -4/+13Vuze - creating software that no one needs or wants since 2006.
- FreakyT, on 05/09/2009, -0/+9Well, Azureus (and its successor, Vuze) were never, IMO, particularly good. (Written in Java, they were pretty slow and memory-intensive.)
- ClassicQ, on 05/08/2009, -1/+9*excuse the extra - "is needed" in the last part of the last sentence, I edited the comment to change the praising and forgot to delete that part of the sentence, the edit window was closed once I realized the mistake..
- feezus, on 05/09/2009, -2/+9Why the hell would I need a portable bittorrent client?
- supertom, on 05/09/2009, -1/+7So they're essentially charging users for an application that can download illegal copyrighted files? Is that wise? Unavoidable or not, putting a price tag on this app is risky.
- psychohog, on 05/09/2009, -3/+9What's with all the vuze hate?
- rpgmakr, on 05/09/2009, -0/+5It can be used through WINE without any hassle. I think they even provide that version on their website or at least they used to. Tho I don't see why would you use uTorrent instead of Deluge. The last of Deluge have been great, plus is open source.
- ashadocat, on 05/09/2009, -0/+4look up
- iritegood, on 05/09/2009, -0/+4uTorrent: "Download the single EXE file to a folder of your choice. Create an empty file called settings.dat in the same folder so that settings will be written there. Launch utorrent.exe."
Screw Azureus. Bloat + Java = Catastrophe - weeFred, on 05/09/2009, -0/+4I think it's useful when you're at a computer where you don't have permission to install apps. But I would use portable deluge and save yourself $9.99.
- inactive, on 05/09/2009, -2/+6I love how they are trying to sell something so closely tied to piracy. What a waste of their time. I wonder how long it took it be cracked.
- flarn2006, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3And the prophecy is fulfilled!
- rpgmakr, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Azureus was a good client. It was feature rich when almost none of the other clients were but it always was a little bit heavy since it was written in java but it was a price most of us were willing to pay. Then Vuze came along but you could still "find" the classic look buried somewhere in the menus. I just got tired and looked for an alternative in the Linux world.
- campigenus, on 05/09/2009, -0/+3Actually, my torrenting "box" is a P 166 laptop with 80MB of RAM. So, yeah, Vuze would make a difference.
- kokoshka, on 05/09/2009, -4/+7Sucks to be your computer.
Enjoy your feature bloated Java apps. - carlosos, on 05/09/2009, -0/+2Vuze has great features and I can run it under Windows and Linux with the same configuration. Might use a little more RAM but who doesn't have at least 1GB of RAM?
- commyostrich, on 05/09/2009, -0/+2This reminds me of back when Limewire had Limewire Pro for like $30 back in the day. Do they seriously think people will pay for a program that helps people pirate stuff? Haha. Good luck Vuze. I think I'll just stick to utorrent portable.
- ZakMcRofl, on 05/09/2009, -0/+2You should try the RSSFeed scanner plugin for Azureus/Vuze. Basically you point it to an eztv feed, enter a regular expression or series name and you'll get every episode downloaded automatically, no user interaction required. This is a killer feature but afaik utorrent can do it as well.
Anyways, I prefer supporting open source. - Mokshaguy390, on 05/09/2009, -1/+3Real men use rTorrent.
- punkcat, on 05/09/2009, -0/+2i'm on a Mac so i use it because i haven't found anything else.
but its just for the torrenting side, which is very nice. that other ***** can go. - stewacide, on 05/09/2009, -0/+2I don't have any problem with them charging for software, but what is the point of this software? I think I'm a pretty sophisticated user but I can't wrap my head around what this is or does?
- toxicityj, on 05/09/2009, -1/+2Vuze is alright. I'm just not a fan of torrent software trying to be something more than a means to download. I don't need it to help me find torrents. I sure as hell don't want to register an account, I don't want the latest news. I dont want anything other than the means to download pirated ***** and occasionally a ubuntu torrent.
so utorrent for the win. and lol at charging for a pirate's tool. - sevenalive, on 05/10/2009, -0/+1I don't get that either, usually schools, companies, and public libraries block most ports.
I guess they need a portable solution to download horse pr0n. - aahpandasrun, on 05/09/2009, -2/+3I didn't know people still used Azureus.
- carlosos, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1Where is the risk for Vuze? They have to charge because Ceedo is selling the technology. Even if Vuze to Go is downloaded for free than I bet the most lost of the money is for Ceedo and not Vuze.
- carlosos, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1Does something like that even need a crack? I bet that there won't even be a copy protection because it is supposed to be copied!
Vuze probably screwed Ceedo over with this deal :-D - inactive, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1get over that whole issue. it's clear, mainstream application is piracy. arguing otherwise is just some tactic used by defense attorneys,.
- carlosos, on 05/09/2009, -1/+2People hate it because it uses more RAM than many others that don't require Java. People pretend like they only have 256 or 512 MB of RAM where it would really make a difference.
- hardcorerikki, on 05/09/2009, -0/+19.99 bucks to get Vuze to Go?
It might suck, but ten bucks says itll be pirated hell and high, to send a clear message. - weeFred, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1Utorrent and Deluge can do that now. Personally I use deluge.
- ilgaz, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1It seems 1.633.216 uses it right now at this moment.
- Redzin, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1I've been doing that with uTorrent (or "BitTorrent" as it's just called now) since I changed to it, which was at least 18 months ago.
I was using Azureus before, and BitComet before that. Both are bloated with unecessary features in my opinion (though I don't know much about BitComet anymore). - lurrker, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1Only for intel mac's. Works on my hackintosh, and G5.
- Aixxt, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1uTorrent, not out for linux :(
- supertom, on 05/10/2009, -0/+1At what point did I say BitTorrent was illegal?
- ilgaz, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1CAN download illegal copyrighted files, some people won't care pirating even if they can because they think it is stealing someone's work. I think they trust to that minority.
- ilgaz, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1aww, super cool, 133t man! heh...
- ilgaz, on 05/09/2009, -0/+1What makes you different from MPAA/RIAA lawyers? It is not tied to piracy, there are many people who only uses it for GNU software/free games/free albums (like NiN) and some archive.org content. Not just that, some lucky enough to live in certain countries use it to BUY HD content which is significantly cheaper than 50 gig plastic (blu ray) or closed down like Apple TV.
- campigenus, on 05/09/2009, -0/+0UT can.
- alaskyn66, on 05/09/2009, -1/+1It should be the other way around, they should be paying us 9.95 to use the damn thing...
- CowGoesMooo, on 05/09/2009, -0/+0@punkcat: uTorrent has a Mac port now, it's great.
- directedition, on 05/09/2009, -2/+2uTorrent, not out for linux :(
- CyrusKafaiWu, on 05/10/2009, -0/+0Awesome!
- aychseven, on 05/09/2009, -2/+2oh nice, so it can be a total memory hog on your portable device as well!
- ilgaz, on 05/09/2009, -1/+1some are paid to hate it, some hates java no matter what Sun does, others hate it for daring to offer paid content (in guide), I assume some religious freaks hate because they also have adult store etc.
