- Axord, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Winroll does this (middle-click on title bar) and more besides.
http://www.palma.com.au/winroll/ - Rizzy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've never understood the point of transparent windows...
- AlmostEvil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Powermenu seems to be better.although there is no source available.
- 1337geek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0anyone got any apps to hide a tray or taskbar prog - freeware?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0me neither
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah I always get impressed when people demonstrate effects that make your display unintelligible.
- crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why?
- orphex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Try PowerMenu (http://www.veridicus.com/tummy/programming/powermenu/): free, and does Stay On Top or Minimize to Tray for any window.
- kill3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is nice
- TigerX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've been using Vitrite for years now... Does exactly what it says nothing more, nothing less.
My kind of program. - Bigcat151, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This post came from the same guy that posted this?

- BugMeNot2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0loly
- conedude13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very annoying when you have multiple windows open. It's CRAPTASTIC!
- gwax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Kudos to stutheidiot; glass2k does this already and is completely awesome
- LilMatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great news for PC users... now they can hide their porn windows.
(Too bad they can't hide the viruses that follow it...) - spyres, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Causes dragging of your now transparent windows to be annoyingly laggy.
No digg. - crapiolio, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Craptastic it is, trust me.
- ZacT1984, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great way to make your system run just a little slower. God give me an os without all the fancy krap (Dos, Unix, Win2k).
- alexdowns, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very helpful little utility!
- monzsca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yes, why? I never understood this. Makes windows harder to read.
- Chiablo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Impress your co-workers, annoy the user!
- dukem72, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Neat application, thanks for the link.
- doctorklein, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0very cool, works nice, does not eat up memory.
- HiddenS3crets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The program gets mixed up with hotkeys for a lot of my programs >_<
Still a neat little app though - MossFly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yeah, try PowerMenu great app... I love to minimize Thundered to the systray :) i have never understood why you would want transparency.

@Bigcat151
See! and you gave him hard time. There was nothing wrong with his Amber post. He just likes to to see through stuff... waitaminute... OMG! Can you can use Vitrite as x-ray glasses!? DIG!!!! - michelson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Vitrite: Because Windows XP doesn't have enough useless crap running in the background.
- Double-Z, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Can anybody come up with a good use for this? It's a great idea, and I love the transparent title bars in Vista, but I think I've missed the point.
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is not like Vista. Vista can make the windows borders transparent, not the entire window (which is pretty lame to do). The only solution I've found to do that is WinBlinds. Got another? Please share!
- TKn00b, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0this is awesome i like how its so small and simple
- eltranced, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thnks to the post tried Winroll!!!! ......that shiz iz dope!!!! transparancy with middle button, mac style shrinking into titlebar with right click ....... AwEsOme! thank you brillian ppl!
- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Funny. Thought the Nvidia drivers already allowed this...
- TheRealStyro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Hmm. Could be useful for monitoring several host systems at once. Have a network monitor going in the background with some terminal windows over that in which you are working. Have to keep track of the layers to make sure you grab the correct one into focus, then play with fonts and colors so as not to muddle/scramble the text when layer get too deep...
Cheaper than buying a multi-panel display setup. - shmooz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This could be useful for when I'm watching a fullscreen movie and like to see if or when my friends on IRC says type something. Oh hold on, Mirc already has transparency 1-100% on its windows and with Alt+Tab I can put it in front of full screen divx player (uncheck display ontop) and resize it to fit the top or bottom black band, since usually theres blank space from panaromic view. I wouldn't want to have to run another TSR to have that functionality built in for eyecandy. It needs to be more useful than just looks.
- AnteChronos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Most applications are NOT designed to be made transparent. Anything that has text becomes unreadable once a couple of layers of text stack up on each other, for instance. Basically, any information becomes muddled. So what's the point? Sure, it looks pretty, but it makes things totally unusable.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0neeto man looks nice i wish it made the topabar also invisible very good if u want to watch a move but also surf the web just make ff transperent

http://www.frontlinetech.blogspot.com - chime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0[Disclaimer] I don't even have VB6 anymore in order to fix/update Glass2k from source. So feel free to use the linked alternative or anything else our there. Just interesting to see people still remember random utilities I made.
- chime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Haha! I wrote Glass2k back in 2001 and was Slashdotted. Funny to see it being mentioned here :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0doesn't look like DiggAdmin1 is a digg member any longer.
http://digg.com/users/DiggAdmin1 - proverb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A program called 'Lucid' is simpler and seems to work better than this one.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good stuff..
- anagoge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But...it's useless. Why would anyone want transparent windows? WHY!
- danglerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lovely...sigh
- NoonienSoong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0powermenu
- imtigger2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"but I'll bet every one of them weighs in at more than 43 KB (zipped)."
Damn! that's HEAVY! I'll have to get rid of most my pr0n on my 300Gig drive to fit it in.. thank YOU for making a lighter program, really. No... really... thanks. - PecanHead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0chime: That's funny. I remember Glass2K and the Slashdotting you got for it. In fact, that's when/why I wrote Vitrite. I wanted something to do transparency but without all the VB baggage. I'll gladly admit there are a number of utilities that go above and beyond Vitrite, but I'll bet every one of them weighs in at more than 43 KB (zipped).
I'll also agree with the other group of posters for this thread - transparency is *usually* a pretty pointless feature. Still, it was a fun program to write.. - gekkokid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0whats the actual point of it? i just dont get it
