- inactive, on 11/12/2008, -6/+23How about apple emulates this and creates a god damn copy paste feature on safari. This is getting pathetic and old, I actually feel like getting the BB storm because of this
- inactive, on 11/12/2008, -2/+16i think its cool try before you take final step :/
- GeeksSpeakFont, on 11/12/2008, -0/+12that's an interesting preview!
- modsuperstar, on 11/14/2008, -4/+15I'm surprised they didn't want to steer clear of branding it Internet Explorer and the number 6. It will probably give people the wrong impression.
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -2/+9I have had great luck with Skyfire so far on WM, you can even log into digg and post comments and digg stories. I have yet to encounter a site that didnt work, and given how limited even Opera is on WM thats pretty damn impressive.
Skyfire is in open beta now, no idea if they are going to charge for it when its done. - aussieNickuss, on 11/14/2008, -3/+9Seeing "internet explorer" and "6" in the same sentence gave me shivers. I think MS may want to consider skipping a version number for IEMobile.
- IndigoMoss, on 11/14/2008, -0/+5When I first read it, I thought they were talking about porting IE 6 over to WM, which didn't sound like a good thing. Then I read the article, and it actually doesn't look to bad, but still, they should have named it something else.
It's the same reason you don't name your kid Adolf Hitler (obviously extreme comparison). - darkchild82, on 11/12/2008, -6/+11Even this would be better IE7 on the PC.
- aydoubleyou, on 11/14/2008, -2/+7So when can I actually use this on my phone?
- SquareWheel, on 11/14/2008, -1/+6I judge you by your internet browser.
- inactive, on 11/14/2008, -8/+12The words "Try" "Internet Explorer" and "6" made me not want to continue with this article.
- MrBogard, on 11/14/2008, -1/+5Fanboy much?
*looks at username*
Oooooh.. - imneveral0ne, on 11/14/2008, -4/+7because everything deserves a chance? dont knock it till you try it.
- Hood15, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3Can you ride Jobs nuts a little less? They need a rest.
- linuxeventually, on 11/14/2008, -0/+3You mean Fennec? It is currently available for Windows, OSX, Linux (all x86) as well as the N810 (ARM). Not available for any phones though (the N810 is NOT a phone no matter what the electronic stores advertise it as)
- inactive, on 11/12/2008, -0/+3Try Internet Explorer Mobile 6 on your PC.
- Ryosen, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2Thanks, tnwake. You just convinced me to stay with Opera Mobile.
- tomz17, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2I have not had these problems with skyfire... but I still prefer opera for most surfing.
- Amadeus2490, on 11/14/2008, -4/+6How about Firefox Mobile?
::ducks:: - inactive, on 11/14/2008, -2/+4I read that current winmo users wont get this, because it will require more power than current winmo systems have? That sucks, at least opera is good
- Flytrap, on 11/14/2008, -1/+3Mmmm, how does one test multi-touch on a PC emulator... or is this just a demonstration of an incremental evolution of the current WinMo browser?
- keatonkeaton998, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2Protip: Mac users apparently use Vista!
- claybird, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2Skyfire is rendered on a proxy and then sent to your phone.
- Stonekeeper, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2Yeah, it's like the biohazard sign. It serves as a warning.
- linuxeventually, on 11/14/2008, -1/+3Ya know, I hate IE. Though it nice to see this trend of releasing betas of apps for mobile platforms, so that devs that may not have access to said mobile (and a dev/api kit) can easily explore and develop code for them.
- jakem1, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2FTA: "So if you want to get a feel for how the new browser, which is based on Internet Explorer 6, will work, you can take it for a spin" Unless you have some further information, positron is right.
- jakem1, on 11/14/2008, -0/+2Gizmodo reported the rumour that digitallysick referred to. Here's a link: http://gizmodo.com/5086148/ie-mobile-6-will-not-be ...
- markstory, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Do not want..
- BlueCadenza, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Just use two mouses. Its awesome.
- tnwake, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2Skyfire is the biggest piece of crap I've ever seen. They require you to login to their servers before you can start the app at all and it will NOT work with default WinMo connection settings. You have to change those to something that will let it work, but kill any other app that uses a data connection. When brought up on their forum, the official answer was "tough, we're not changing it".
- mythicflux, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1The reason it's called Internet Explorer Mobile 6 is because it's designed for Windows Mobile 6.1 (maybe 6.5). Mobile versions of the IE browser are numbered for the version of Windows Mobile they were created for.
- Amadeus2490, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1No, I mean if Mozilla made a Firefox Mobile.
- EtherGnat, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1I can't immediately find the version of PocketIE included in Windows Mobile 6.1, but it's NOT this version. I'm pretty sure it was a point update of PIE5.
- xtraa, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1"There's just one catch: You can't run it on your Windows Mobile phone yet. "
lol. Come back when you invented tabbed browsing. - tomz17, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1You have PIE (pocket internet explorer). AFAIK, this is new
- jakem1, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Multi-touch isn't supported in Windows Mobile.
- tomz17, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1If you are adventurous, you can already get some ROM images that have this cooked in!
Alternately, you can try the early CAB files people have tried to cobble together :

go down a few pages on each - inactive, on 11/14/2008, -2/+3Because IE is the only mobile browser for Windows Mobile PDAs, other than java-based ones and (I think) Opera Mobile.
- Mudbeast, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1dig1x is right, OP is wrong. Any winmo 6.1 phone will be able to run this no sweat. Ignorance sucks.
- dig1x, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2Uhm, that wouldnt make a lot of sense.
Windows Mobile devices are often updated "mid-life" -- there hasnt really been any time that _no_ devices didnt get the latest Windows Mobile software.
Your "rumour" seems a little off-base. I cant imagine that is accurate. - tnwake, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1"6" is a number, not a word
- benitojuarez, on 11/14/2008, -2/+3I know theres a post about it above but skyfire is awesome enough to warrant multiple posts. You can even watch youtube videos with it on wm5 phones with no flash installed.
- dig1x, on 11/14/2008, -4/+5Snore. IE7 is measures better than 6.
And, IE8 is my fulltime browser. I moved from FF after IE7 was released.
I still use it for testing, but my day-to-day is IE8. - ISEEDEADPEOPLE, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Shame the Storm doesn't have wifi!
Was actually in the store today to buy one not realizing that!
How can they expect to compete with the iphone without wifi! - spiralspirit, on 11/14/2008, -1/+2this looks hot. can't wait till its available for my mogul.
- Ryosen, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1Is Skyfire a true client-based browser or does it go through a rendering proxy like Opera Mini?
- savocado, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1The 4.2 is very buggy/
- Ryosen, on 11/14/2008, -0/+1It *is* available for the Mogul. It's part of the update that HTC released in September.
- Mudbeast, on 11/14/2008, -3/+4This isn't based on IE6, idiots. It's simply version 6 of IE mobile, not code related. Why are people as dumb as you allowed on the internet ever?
