But seriously there's nothing wrong with downloading TV Shows from Bit-Torrent, I mean if they left the ads in it would be no different than watching it on TV, plus lots of people don't have time to sit down and watch their show when it airs. Sites like Hulu are wising up to the Bit-Torrent battle and realize what needs to be done to make a profit from the Web-Geners. - phpld, on 04/15/2009, -0/+16I'm having trouble installing it on my AOL browser for Windows ME. Can I get some help please?
What is WinZip? Loving Morpheus! ;) There is something on my screen now that says "pwned". What does that mean? - cannonball, on 04/14/2009, -0/+13Are you asking us to put commercials in torrents, or are you asking the broadcasting networks to put commercials in torrents?
Because neither will do it willingly.
But if a broadcaster woke up one day with a ***** clue in his head, he would understand that most torrents of television shows come out maybe an hour after it was broadcast with over 1000s of people waiting (LITERALLY WAITING) for a torrent to come out. OMG!!! PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET WANT TO WATCH YOUR SHOW!
And if that broadcaster was extra smart, he would understand how to create his own site filled with advertisements, with a link to the "official" torrent (before any other torrent could be produced) (and with more advertisements) and that people would still prefer it over watching television.
*****. - AlanFang, on 04/14/2009, -3/+14So how exactly does it integrate with your TV?
- draxenato, on 04/15/2009, -0/+5I like the torrent search functionality that doesn't rely on an indexer, sounds a little like how Kazaa, Gnutella and Bearshare used to work.
But I've had utorrent running happily on my Windows Media Center for three years now. It grabs my shows automatically via RSS and I can tell it to grab any movies I want through its web interface, and all hooked up to my main TV. So I'm not really seeing anything new with Tribler, or am I missing something ? - depro9, on 04/15/2009, -0/+5Boxee FTW
- noboot, on 04/15/2009, -0/+5They just need to switch to product placement. The Big Bang Theory most certainly has Dell Laptops placed so you can not help but to notice them...
- Octanus, on 04/15/2009, -0/+5You could connect your computer to your TV and use a remote control to control your computer.
Also FTA:
"They work together with ... hardware developers such as Pioneer." - scy1192, on 04/15/2009, -0/+5Doesn't Bittorrent download in little scattered pieces instead of progressively? Wouldn't that make streaming a nightmare?
- cquilliam, on 04/15/2009, -1/+5Every show i'm not watching i'm missing out on
- supertom, on 04/15/2009, -0/+4http://tribler.org/Download
- sepelester, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3It doesn't (if you don't install it in your media center or run tv out from your box), but since they are developing a way to get media through bittorrent and p2p alone, no content provider bandwidth is wasted on broadcasts, so the idea is pretty neat, and easily implemented in a TV set.
- Octanus, on 04/15/2009, -1/+4Yes and it will crack the passwords as well.
/s - Misanthrope, on 04/15/2009, -1/+4He just described about 2 hours worth of effort on his part.
How, exactly, does that preclude him from having a girlfriend or a life?
Just asking, because I do the same thing and have a life...and I'm engaged!
Oh yeah...hey everyone, I'm engaged! - lyonsban, on 04/15/2009, -0/+3You can get Blu-Ray quality these days. If/when the ISPs all go with bandwidth limiting you're going to have a problem.
- sHockz, on 04/15/2009, -1/+3Step 1 - Adopt a new business model that co-exists with p2p
Step 2 - ?????
Step 3 - Profit - AlanFang, on 04/14/2009, -3/+5Huggggeeee if there on the ads part. Please show me a torrent of a TV show that actually contains commercials.
- buddamus, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2Cool, I rely on torrents as I work nights and miss all my shows on TV
- benderillo, on 04/15/2009, -1/+3Trailer Park Boys... if you haven't seen it, you are missing out.
- sepelester, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2I just installed it, but it crashed silently under my ubuntu jaunty beta. I wanted to report this in the forum poll, but there was no way to report that it didn't work. (Did it install? -yes- or -you have to choose an option-)
- carlosos, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2I guess you haven't used vuze yet Vuze is azureus with integration of the Vuze HD Network. Some of the free content there have ads (the ones that say "This media is supported by advertisements" below the download link.
I'm also wonder what this client does that Vuze isn't already doing... - aladrin, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2You can actually have your BT client request pieces according to priority. I do it all the time to make sure I get the first file first in a torrent, so I can enjoy it before the whole thing downloads.
Of course, that means that people who don't seed after they finish downloading are going to make getting the last bits of the file tough. That's why it's currently randomized/prioritized like it is. - jer2eydevil88, on 04/15/2009, -0/+2I recommend TV Shows on OS X http://tvshows.sourceforge.net/index2.html if your technical and don't mind updating one of the scripts http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=2 ... it works great alongside your favorite bit torrent client.
- Kazimieras, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1This somewhat sounds like Joost... which beta'd about 2 years ago.
Turns out using p2p wasn't the best way to go for quality. - iiiears, on 04/16/2009, -0/+1The Bit torrent protocol is an efficient means of distribution that allows viewers to see commercials that support content producers.
- upick, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Torrent power, its bound to happen, trend is that people are watching move online videos than TV, they should really think of something new or follow the trend
- shininia, on 04/15/2009, -1/+2Slighly better than their current model
Step 1 ?????
Step 2 ?????
Step 3 Sue everybody - zahirsai, on 04/17/2009, -0/+1It would make perfect sense for TV shows like Lost. Not like it makes much sense when it's all in order.
- Leetamus, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1So this just downloads torrents? There are other developers out there who have set up streaming tv channels using bittorrent to share steaming bandwidth loads which for me is way cooler. The TVUplayer for example steams most major networks along with most ppv broadcasts (UFC ppv is always streamed)
- Misanthrope, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1You use bittorrent for porn too, eh?
- draxenato, on 04/16/2009, -0/+1I'd consider switching providers if I were you, if that's an option for you. Or you could tunnel through a VPN account.
- Mizzike, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1The solution is to make us want to actually watch the commercials. We're all bitching about commercials because we hate them. But why? Is it because they're not relevant? Is it because they're lame? Well, I think one TV company has it right on.
Case in point: does anyone here watch any show produced by Revision3, a forward-thinking Internet TV company? If so, simple question (you can answer right here below me): do you forward through the commercials or do you watch them?
I watch them. They're quick, painless, and I like that they're read by the hosts of the show. Sometimes the hosts really screw them up and it's fun to experience that with them and see how they react. How you would do this for other shows that don't have hosts, I do not know. Find someone who's engaging when reading copy? That's for some new media marketer to figure out.
But my main point is that I actually enjoy watching the NetFlix and GoDaddy commercials from Diggnation. I love listening to the Audible commercials on TWiT, especially when Jason Calacanis is on the show. (Ooooh, Auuuuudible.... ugh. Love audible. Mmmmmh. Audible, audible, audible, I love you, I love you, I love you.... mmmmuah mmmmuah mmmmuah ...)
Anyone else with me? - Octanus, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1I tried Tribler when it first came out, it was pretty clumsy. The UI was terrible to use, and it crashed a lot so I stopped using it. This new version looks pretty slick, can't wait to try it out when I get home.
- Misanthrope, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1Deep...
- Loshunter, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1The gist of it is the advertisers want targeted ads. When you pay for an ad on a show you are doing it in your local television station, and its being served to the local market. Any ads attached to a torrent would be moot points with torrents serving the entire world at large.
- kevro, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1I won't be streaming bittorent any time soon. Thanks to throttling I'm lucky to get a well seeded show in five hours. Usenet I can stream : )
- RoadDoggFL, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1I'll get buried, but I don't think it's just that people WATCH the commercials (which still wouldn't be guaranteed...). Networks need to be able to PROVE to advertisers that people are watching them.
Additionally, once you download the file to your computer, why wouldn't you just fast forward through the commercials? So even counting downloads wouldn't be reliable because most people wouldn't sit through them anyway.
There's also the issue with TV service providers. You know they'll do whatever they can to avoid being cut out of the whole process.
I know there's a solution, but it's not as simple as you guys are pretending. - Dumbledorito, on 04/15/2009, -0/+1I hope they offer a high-speed net connection to go with that.
Razza-frazzin' Time-Warner bandwidth caps... - t-readyroc, on 04/15/2009, -1/+1Sounds like someone is trying to come up with a better SopCast/TVAnts. This stuff has been around for a while, but I think the implementation described here is definitely different. Love SopCast though.
- lyonsban, on 04/15/2009, -0/+0Cannonball has the right of it.
The SF channel original movies tend to have the commercials still in them. I don't have a problem with them. Commercials are there for a reason, so you can refill your beer and get more salsa.
Intertainment is something the music, television and movie industries are going to have to learn to use rather than and in preference to the legal system. Aren't they in the entertainment business? Shouldn't this be their job? MGM, fire everyone in your marketing department. Now. - Jaspah, on 04/15/2009, -2/+2Yeah, and what's stopping someone from editing that movie file to remove all the commercials... and then redistribute that? Most people I know HATE commercials, and would love to have a commercial-free TV show anyway possible.
- Panya9, on 04/15/2009, -0/+0Thank you
- NeoMatrixJR, on 04/16/2009, -0/+0Or
Step 1 Move good shows to Friday and kill them off
Step 2 ?????
Step 3 Piss off viewers when their shows die
RIP T:SCC - inactive, on 04/15/2009, -1/+1Are the hardware makers not scared of the RIAA/MPAA coming after them for being enablers of bittorrenting, also known as piracy to some.
- jeremymccurdy, on 04/15/2009, -2/+1Yeah man, they're so annoying, if only there were several programs available to do exactly that...
- RumpleForeskin3, on 04/15/2009, -6/+1You are missing something, a life, and probably a girlfriend.
- LedZepAddict, on 04/15/2009, -11/+5Can it unzip those annoying Winrar files?
