- mdaize, on 03/11/2009, -3/+217Regardless of the fact this is used to pirate, the idea is absolutely genius.
That's kind of like the MS Tagging system where you take a pic of the "Tag" to get more details about the item you're looking at. - vexingmodstwo, on 03/11/2009, -7/+152If this doesn't just scream "Hey, torrents are primarily used to steal *****" I don't know what does.
- ArthurSucks, on 03/11/2009, -4/+142I suddenly want a Android phone.
- Nidy1, on 03/11/2009, -11/+132Really takes away from the "the pirates weren't going to buy it anyway!" defense...
But whatever, don't let my morals get in the way of your free stuff. - voyetra8, on 03/11/2009, -2/+109Now I can steal even easier. Thanks technology!
- sousademiami, on 03/11/2009, -4/+99This could turn into a great legitimate product. Someone could set up a universal wishlist like on amazon.com and add anything they see at the store to it so people know what they'd like to get for the holidays or a birthday or a wedding, etc.
Or you can instantly compare prices at other retailers and use it to negotiate a better price. - merreborn, on 03/11/2009, -6/+82Many pirates really "wouldn't have bought it anyway" -- the few who would use a service like this are a minority -- but regardless, I agree -- this crosses a line.
If you've gone all the way to the store, you've got the damn thing in your hands, and you've decided you want it... just ***** buy it. - AndrewDB, on 03/11/2009, -4/+69*Scans a Banana by accident*
*Finds three pornos waiting for him on his desktop.*
I fraking love this product! :] - samard2002, on 03/11/2009, -13/+75Shameless.
Why not just pull it out of the case at the store and rip it yourself? - inactive, on 03/11/2009, -7/+69Scan Barcodes, By the time you make it home, the movie and the RIAA is waiting for you
- vtnerd, on 03/11/2009, -4/+64This really does lend credence to the "one download = one lost sale" nonsense that the MPAA and RIAA continue to push.
Cool idea and I've got no problem with pirates, but it does seem to validate their claims. - tunafizzle, on 03/11/2009, -0/+50This is an amazing idea, but it makes the torrent community look bad.
- w3ber, on 03/11/2009, -0/+47downloading [bottled water .............20%]
- Shazbuckle, on 03/11/2009, -15/+59Because then the publisher would lose money on a physical copy.
They lose nothing on virtual copies..just potential gains. - solarwind24, on 03/11/2009, -1/+45Because that would be illegal.
- Samiyam, on 03/11/2009, -0/+43"Can I help you?"
"No, thanks. I just came in to browse DVDs that I'm going to download later. Thank you for keeping such a large inventory in a well-lit and comfortably warm store." - l034me, on 03/11/2009, -0/+37Wouldn't it be the MPAA at your door, not RIAA?
- gurudrew, on 03/11/2009, -0/+36It's seems to be stuck at 20%. I think you might have a bottle neck.
- Shawn4168, on 03/11/2009, -0/+33Doesn't Android already have this? http://www.android.com/market/free-shopping.html#a ...
- th3heretic, on 03/11/2009, -7/+38Lol morals.
- bbqsalad, on 03/11/2009, -4/+35anyone who says otherwise is either an idiot or in denial.
- l034me, on 03/11/2009, -0/+31These are not the droids you're looking for.
- jacobfingrocks, on 03/11/2009, -0/+29What happens if I scan my groceries?
- Formaldehydex2, on 03/11/2009, -5/+34*waits for explanation on how this totally isn't piracy*
- vegx, on 03/11/2009, -4/+31"I want something but can't afford it" is quite possibly the worst defense of torrents.
Are we all somehow entitled to copies of movies and games? - EnderMB, on 03/11/2009, -7/+32I can't be the only person to think that this isn't a very useful tool. For starters, if you were in a store to buy a DVD why would you then download it? Secondly, why not just search for the thing like everyone else does right now? The only way this could be useful is if you don't know what you want to watch, and with several billion top 10 lists floating around that's near impossible.
The scan feature is brilliant, but I don't think it's a good method of downloading torrents. - fotbr, on 03/11/2009, -0/+24They'll both be there. In their minds, if you pirate one, you're almost certainly pirating the other.
- lemur, on 03/11/2009, -0/+23lol it's cuecat for bittorrent
- ClarkLab, on 03/11/2009, -0/+22Pretty cool idea. Almost reminds me of that 'CueCat' product a while back that would scan barcodes of books, movies, etc and give you info about them or special deals from advertisers. Except now you can just get the actual movie (only legal backups, of course).
- Drewnami, on 03/11/2009, -5/+27And watch your imaginary movie. What ever happened to "you can't get things you can't afford"?
- ClarkLab, on 03/11/2009, -0/+20That would be pretty slick. Scan and get a legal copy? Shoooot.
- jba68, on 03/11/2009, -0/+19Man I still have a cue cat.... somewhere.
/MEOW - th3heretic, on 03/11/2009, -1/+18Show that in your iPhone commercials...
- BedPost, on 03/11/2009, -4/+20I pirate because I don't have much disposable income - what little I do I don't want to spend on entertainment - but I often do want the product.
Look, I'm not going to lie - I pirate to get it for free. Sure, there are some decent arguments for why piracy isn't the worst thing in the world, but at the end of the day, I'm getting someone's work for free. It's certainly amoral, but if I'm not going to lie to myself, I won't lie to you guys. - AsSubtleAsABrik, on 03/11/2009, -0/+15I definitely want one, but I don't like any of the hardware out that has it and there aren't any Verizon phones with it.
- AsSubtleAsABrik, on 03/11/2009, -2/+16What the hell are you talking about?
"After the search results appear, the user could then choose which torrent to start."
I think the point of you choosing which torrent to use is to avoid the pitfall you mentioned. It implies that it would list information like seeders/leechers, or else why would it let you choose? - wimbet, on 03/11/2009, -2/+16It would be nice if Amazon brought their video on demand library to Android...
- SpinningHead, on 03/11/2009, -4/+17The tears of the RIAA are delicious
- ZaxCG2, on 03/11/2009, -2/+15The more we dig, the more movie companies will notice! KEEP IT UP.
- bbqsalad, on 03/11/2009, -4/+16I like stealing stuff
- ExSlashdotter, on 03/11/2009, -0/+12Thats besides the point. Show me an axxo-labeled torrent that doesn't contain a good quality file.
- LookItsJoe, on 03/11/2009, -2/+14This is nothing short of brilliant. Kudos to the developers!
- gwaggy12, on 03/11/2009, -0/+12You are so right. To me, the main benefit of downloading content is the convenience factor, and not necessarily that it's free. Since I've started using the DRM-free Amazon MP3 store, I've paid for all my new music, and I can definitely see doing the same thing for video.
- nichojo, on 03/11/2009, -5/+16The irony in this is strong. I love it!
- fotbr, on 03/11/2009, -0/+11At least you're honest about it.
- kevro, on 03/11/2009, -3/+14The library lets you take movies out for free, even new releases. The other option is to buy used, in this case the content owner gets no money. If your not going to buy new then why not just download.
- thesake, on 03/12/2009, -0/+10***** THE RIAA!!!!!!!!!!
- mark925, on 03/12/2009, -1/+10I like stealing turtles.
- NeoMatrixJR, on 03/11/2009, -0/+9:CueCat (supposed to have the : eyes)...I neutered mine, now I have a nice free usb barcode scanner.
- Discobassplayer, on 03/11/2009, -2/+11Who said it wasn't piracy?
