- Sunscreen, on 03/23/2009, -2/+133I use Bittorent so I don't have to operate a methamphetamine lab to get the money for Adobe products.
- inactive, on 03/22/2009, -1/+54Missing option: all of the above.
- MarkBrent, on 03/22/2009, -17/+66For axxo quality movies.
- Nevermindz, on 03/22/2009, -0/+45All of above.
- Maynza, on 03/23/2009, -3/+47If I had disposable income I would purchase almost all of my media, but since I am a college student with negative money I pirate.
- LordBacon, on 03/22/2009, -3/+38Because i hate the RIAA !
- AlaskaLoneWolf, on 03/22/2009, -4/+37I use it to download every episode of the Golden Girls:

I still wanna see Betty White do a private pole dance for me. Sorry, but you had to ask. - Zera, on 03/23/2009, -2/+35I wish there was another option:
5.) Because it is the only convenient way to consume certain types of media.
If everything was as convenient as Hulu, AND Hulu wasn't being an ass and blocking projects like Boxee, then I have no problem watching a few commercials, but remember, maybe I'm new to "LOST" or "Flight of the Conchords" and I want to start watching those shows at the beginning! It doesn't help me that Hulu only has 1 season or less of content up at a given time. As long as dicking around with Bittorrent is easier than alternatives available, then people are going to continue to use it.
I really think this is the number 1 reason why bittorrent is used: Convenience. - Checkerd, on 03/23/2009, -1/+27The secret ingredient is chili-powder.
- prodigitalson, on 03/22/2009, -3/+28Thats a bad pole... it should be a check all that apply type deal, or at the least add an "all of he above". Because I dont think anyone fits in to jsut one of those categories. In fact for different releases the reason is different. For most music its try before you buy, for most movies, cause its free, for most tv, its because i cant get it elsewhere (or if i can its streaming... and i HATE streaming), and for most software i d/l its legally shareable.
- ScientistBlah, on 03/23/2009, -3/+26Because as a poor university student I can't afford to buy every album by every band that I like.
- ElBeh, on 03/23/2009, -3/+22Because they download faster and work fine on a computer monitor.
- rompom7, on 03/23/2009, -2/+20hai guyz. i am from scene group. u p2p pubbers got nothin on my 256kpbs conection and 30 gigabites 5400 rpm hard drive RAIDing arrary box. axxo is steelin' our tubes so stop downloding his mobies!
Pro tip: This is how you sound when you talk about the scene.
Don't you think that there's just a tad of hypocrisy when you hate people who rip movies from scene groups. But don't hate the scene groups who rip movies from the industry?
btw, all for file sharing, p2p, the scene, etc. - Therion596, on 03/23/2009, -5/+21Not paying for things > Paying for things
- prettyawesome, on 03/23/2009, -3/+17It's honestly easier for me to pirate some things than find them legally and install them from the internet.
- failtrain, on 03/23/2009, -4/+17Patches for games mainly.
I got sick and ***** tired of the countless websites that require you to sign up,
and then wait in a ***** queue for half an hour before you can download the file. - AlanFang, on 03/23/2009, -1/+12dugg for Breaking Bad reference.
- kopiwrite, on 03/22/2009, -2/+13Because it's the easiest way to get information.
- MeccaYdna, on 03/23/2009, -0/+9Heisenberg!!
- Kordras, on 03/23/2009, -2/+11Without BitTorrent, there are about 300 albums I would have never heard or purchased.
- DrLuv, on 03/23/2009, -3/+12I am so terribly sorry for not being as with it as you two obviously are. You got all the girls in highschool didnt you. got picked first every lunch hour. Im so glad i have you here to rain wisdom down upon me, because lets face it, your commentary was not only necessary, it was also thouroughly educational. In the next installment of your piracy tutoring series do you think you could actually offer up some useful information. As much as I appreciate the lessons youve bestowed upon me up to this point could I posit a suggestion.
Give me a link to this vast repository of high quality torrents not labeled axxo or shut the ***** up. - jman583, on 03/23/2009, -0/+8Errr... you can get all five seasons of Lost at abc.com. The only problem is that ABC's web player sucks ass.
- FriedTurkey, on 03/23/2009, -0/+7I want stuff for free.
My other reasons only exist so I can appear not like such a douche bag. - taox, on 03/23/2009, -0/+7Yes.
- tehknotte, on 03/23/2009, -1/+8nor hundreds of dollars HBO DVD sets
- mozert, on 03/23/2009, -0/+7Remember kids: the noodle soup has no secret ingredient
- hansrodtang, on 03/23/2009, -3/+10Because it's easy. If I could pay 30$ a month for a similar service, I would. A Spotify for movies would be awesome.
- azureskies88, on 03/23/2009, -2/+9Of course there will always be a variety reason why people use BitTorrent. However, anyone who says "they're free" isn't one of those reasons is either lying or a very rare exception.
- Bungo, on 03/23/2009, -7/+13Because Hulu is a bunch of facists.
- bonk2k, on 03/23/2009, -1/+7Yeah but those shows are midseason right now. So you can wait for this season to finish and be put on DVD, or you can conveniently download every episode leading up to the newest one. So I'm putting him down for 5 again.
- linuxpenguin, on 03/23/2009, -3/+9ROMs for consoles that aren't around anymore. And old movies that I've never seen and that I'm not sure I'd want to pay to see.
- theratster, on 03/23/2009, -0/+5Agreed. Its just as bad as the fact that apparently Canadian TV is so much different than American TV... and we can't even GET Hulu or TV.com or any of the other online media. I guess that counts as "because I can't get it elsewhere" but its the same issue...
- craznar, on 03/23/2009, -2/+7Option #3 - cause Foxtel is crap. Reruns of decade old TV. Free to air has sports, sports, sports or reality TV. I never d/l movies or music, cause I can buy them.
- Jarasmen, on 03/23/2009, -0/+5Right, because BitTorrent is swarmed with legal content.
- mattofasia, on 03/23/2009, -1/+6Discovering new artists. And finding some hidden treasure tracks from mainstream artists that may never have made it to radio. I would not pay to buy from an artist whose radiosong is crap that annoys me, but sometimes the songs behind their main tune are better.
Also, since I got my CD collection ripped off a few years ago, (several hundred dollars of investment) in a B and E, I could not afford to replace all my favorites. So basically I already have paid.
I would also primarily say I use it because I cannot get it elsewhere. Hulu doesnt work in my country due to BS broadcast rules that should be outed. I also like to watch shows straight through without suffering through pointless commercials. If there was a source that I could pay a small fee to that had as much variety and accessibility I might pay. But that does not exist, because nationalism and ***** 'cultural protection' rules still exist. So, thats it for me. - inactive, on 03/23/2009, -2/+6Do we really need a poll for this? Everyone knows what everyone uses BitTorrent for, with that being said, I hate people that in their minds BitTorrent = piracy, because it not just that.
- mabsark, on 03/23/2009, -0/+4@DrLuv
Here you go.

http://www.scenereleases.info/ - EMGroup, on 03/23/2009, -3/+7I use BitTorrent to share content that can not be bought in stores.
- inactive, on 03/23/2009, -1/+5Because I'm cheap IMHO
- mozert, on 03/23/2009, -1/+5'cause downloading is not instantaneous? And 'cause those fat companies put a cap on download ?
- mozert, on 03/23/2009, -4/+7So you can get something other than what the dudes at the marketing department want to feed into you?
- linksus, on 03/23/2009, -1/+4LOL @ Pole.
Whats a bad pole?
A shiny metal one all greased up and wearing a short skirt? - Bainemo, on 03/23/2009, -8/+11Two reasons:
One, I don't think paying 30 dollars for a five year old game is fair
Two, I have a personal vendetta against the music industry as a whole
Though truthfully I listen to so little music the second point really hasn't seen a whole lot of use lately. - AlyxVance, on 03/23/2009, -1/+4I have a rapidshare account. It is so much superior to torrents. I can easily get 3000+ KB/s transfer rates on my standard cable internet connection for only a few cents a day. 720p movies downloaded in under 10 minutes. Now that is awesome.
- brad016, on 03/23/2009, -3/+6World of Goo and Jonathan Coulton Discography
- jasmus, on 03/23/2009, -0/+3This is true. The only thing good on foxtel is discovery, and there's so many good shows that don't even make it out to australia.
- robbie32, on 03/23/2009, -1/+4Because you can get entire discographies in a few clicks.
I found a lot of music that I like through torrents though, but truth be told I wouldn't have bought them anyway since I'm broke. - c010rb1indusa, on 03/23/2009, -1/+4Adobe knows people pirate their *****, they don't care, it keeps their marketshare and familiarity stable for the next and newer generations. Do you know how many legit companies and small business purchased a copy of photoshop because a worker had prior experience with it? I'd say Piracy helps Adobe
- o76923, on 03/23/2009, -1/+3Umm, Linux? Come on, at least a passing mention on the fourth one should've been there.
