- jggube, on 06/03/2008, -5/+22I hear Digsby is also awesome for Twitter.
- TheCarDude, on 06/04/2008, -3/+13mmm...TwitterBerry.
- louiebaur, on 06/03/2008, -4/+12Thanks for the tools got some cool ones in there
- talonstriker, on 06/04/2008, -2/+9OT: What are people who use twitter called? Twits?
- jmspikers, on 06/04/2008, -1/+8Now we just need Twitter to fix its technical problems...
- arlok789, on 06/04/2008, -5/+12What gets me about Twitter is how insanely useful it is. The name however, is goofy. Cool tools.
- mikusd, on 06/04/2008, -4/+10what is the appeal of Twitter....why do people use it? All i can see it being is a standalone version of Facebook's "status" which i find creepy. So tell me...why should i Twitter?
- mcphatty, on 06/04/2008, -4/+10i dont get this whole twitter deal. my one simple question is.. why?
- bradleyland, on 06/04/2008, -1/+6Prepare to be buried. I don't get it either. Maybe I'm anti-social, or maybe I'm just uninteresting. My twitter feed would look something like:
Working
Eating
Drinking coffee
Digging
Working
Eating
Gaming
Sleeping
repeat ad nauseum
*****, that's it. I'm boring :( - mcphatty, on 06/04/2008, -0/+5or maybe a tongue twitter
- GreatGiftPicks, on 06/04/2008, -1/+6I'm Twitter illiterate, but it sounds like Stalker Training Camp to me - lol. What the heck? We're too busy to spend time with our kids, but we want to know and update everyone about where we are and what we're doing every 5 minutes? I don't get it. I'm with mcphatty. To those of you who love it though - seriously - enjoy! PS right now I'm on digg : )
- inactive, on 06/04/2008, -3/+7Hellotxt seems the most promising with the ability to update more than one site with a single entry. Fun stuff!
- brutalentropy, on 06/04/2008, -6/+10Whaaaat? Nothing about Twinkle? http://www.iphonealley.com/forums/showthread.php?t ...
Best Twitter client for the iPhone, hands down! - sethm, on 06/04/2008, -2/+6Screw Hellotxt. Try Ping.fm instead...It is far more useful.
- BrokenVisage, on 06/04/2008, -2/+6Was your title meant to be a tongue twister?
- ma11man, on 06/04/2008, -3/+7They should do a Twitter Town Hall - http://twittertownhall.com
- duckyinc, on 06/04/2008, -4/+8Can someone explain why giving other people your details is so addicting or is this another myspace?
- inactive, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3I keep hearing that Twitter is "so useful that you won't be able to live without it" but have yet to find out why. Could someone please enlighten me?
- TBagwell, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3toilet paper?
- LeRenard, on 06/04/2008, -5/+8That's a lot of applications for something that seems pretty pointless to me.
- CharlesSaint, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3Geo-tagging + easy photo-linking FTW! I've added a handful of people just by going into the "Near me" section and seeing what people around me are twittering about. And I live in a relatively small city (Des Moines, IA). I can only imagine the results somewhere like NY would produce. By the way http://twitter.com/nickreed in case anyone is interested (sorry, I couldn't resist).
- brandanf, on 06/04/2008, -0/+3yes, digbsy is great for twitter among other things
- notorious., on 06/04/2008, -0/+3Yes, it is "free" with ads. I consider the price a "donation," since the application is fully functional without paying a cent.
- inactive, on 06/04/2008, -3/+6Anybody else getting tired of slideshows?
not singling this one out, but also wired, popsci, CNET, etc.
If you have a lot of information on each picture, I would prefer to see it on one page, and not have to click to see the next item. Digg up if you agree - UberNick, on 06/04/2008, -1/+4They missed my favorite; a twitter search tool: http://summize.com/
- amanoj, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Dugg for the Ping.FM ref.
- AngelX, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3Wait hold on, what? Did I miss the part where Twitter became cool?
- amanoj, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3To be honest, I use twitter to rant or discuss upcoming projects. It also helps to follow some active twit-heads!
@aubs, @kevinrose, @leolaporte, etc... - DrCrankenstein, on 06/04/2008, -3/+5These are great! My original twitter feed would pop up and not go away and was hard to control.
- dorkyromantic, on 06/04/2008, -4/+6Twitterific is so...twitterific. Also, isn't it free?
- sqwidget, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Thanks for the heads up. This app does exactly what I've been looking for. It's still beta, I used the code landofping to sign up if anyone else is interested.
- pooty2, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2To see what I'm doing because you love me.
- bradleyland, on 06/04/2008, -4/+6Because, why spend time with people when you can just "know them" over the internet? Twitter, to me, is the equivalent of the thousands of people who blog every day, just to tell the world about the page-turner novel they're reading, or how bad the coffee at Starbucks was that morning. You know, the ones with the "mood indicator" in the margin.
The dirty little secret about Twitter is that everyone posts their crap under the delusion that someone else cares, when it's really just a circle-jerk collection of self-interested people who are starved for attention. - Atomic1fire, on 06/05/2008, -0/+2I think its more often then not used like a chatroom
Taking the concept of small quick messages and applying it to communication
So basically chatting with facebook status - ElCervantes, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2I use lifesteam.fm. No more beta, it is already there and has a growing community. Also it supports a LOT of online activities.
- sqwidget, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3I use the Twitter Gadget 2.0 when using Vista. It seems to be the best of the Windows Gadgets I've seen. And it's low profile, so you don't need another floating window cluttering your workspace.
- ElbertF, on 06/04/2008, -3/+5I'm a *****.
- RMoore08, on 06/04/2008, -0/+2Like notorious said, it is free but to remove the ads it costs 14.95.
- DCGUY12, on 06/04/2008, -1/+3Use it all the time on my Blackberry
- krinthekuz, on 09/16/2008, -0/+2you're not alone. i don't know anyone IRL who uses twitter, but i have a good 300 people i know IRL on facebook, most of whom i've known and repeatedly hung out with for 3+ years.
twitter is like the anti-digg. it takes all the noise that no one cares about and amplifies it 1000fold. - jessefelder, on 06/04/2008, -4/+6good piece. i've used digsby but i like twhirl better.
- gracias, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1Twitter is great, if you are 15 years old.
- suMMx, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2i was expecting to see a list that contained kevin roses name
- rjrjr, on 06/04/2008, -2/+3Don't forget about Twubble. It's a great way to find people to follow.
http://crazybob.org/twubble/ - endlessoul, on 06/04/2008, -1/+2I use TwitterFox. It matches the weight and simplicity of Twitter itself; small, lightweight, and simple.
Beats having an extra process running with a separate window. - chemdiva, on 06/05/2008, -1/+2I like it more for getting other's details than for giving. For example, i love following the mars lander and the national film board. The potential use i hope to see come to fruition is the use by small businesses (like folk festivals, movie festivals, galleries... ) for disseminating announcements. Instead of signing up for mailing lists using my junk email address i almost never check, or trying to remember to check the facebook group, i would just get a tweet with a link (and i could block at any time).
And it's also fun for me to know when my friend on the other side of the country finally has a success with his research, or when a girlfriend in town is sick of work and wants to go for a pint. Not for everyone i guess, but i don't know that twitter is totally driven by narcissism. - inactive, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1#1: IM
- JudgeMonkey, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1As folks have said, it's generally useless. However it's very handy to follow people who are doing interesting things, or just a place to post mini-rants. However, as with any site, you'll get annoying little people posting every annoying little thing they do, oblivious to the fact that no one cares. Fortunatly, unless you're obsessed with the public timeline though, these people represent very little trouble.
- Mizzike, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1bradleyland has a rather jaded view of twitter--the same view I used to have until I signed up to test drive it and see what all the commotion was about.. I use it to keep in touch with family. I'm not sure why strangers follow me, but that's their business. At the same time, I also use it to promote my gluten-free foods business, Oli's Products, every now and then. I even use it to highlight some blog articles I write at my blog, The Wonderful World of Mizzike.
Bottom line is: you can use it however you want. I didn't understand it at first, either, but now I get it, and it's one of the most useful tools I have ever used for "getting the word out".
It was especially useful to me and my mom, who lives in san diego, when the san diego wild fires were roaring all around her house. We used Twitter (www.twitter.com/kpbsnews) to stay updated on the latest happenings with the fire and its rapid spread. -
