- DavidTurnbull, on 02/28/2009, -4/+11Not sure why this is on the front page. The advice is fine but it's not ground breaking or anything.
- kjleftin, on 02/28/2009, -0/+6Maybe it's just me, but I don't see the point of sites like del.iciou.us that use subdomains and country names to make their domain name clever. It makes the website difficult to remember and even more difficult to describe to someone else in person. "the site is del.icio.us.. yeah, 'd' 'e' 'l' 'dot' i' c' i' 'o' dot' u' 's'". Much easier to tell someone the name of your website is www.yourdomainname.com
- myendess, on 02/28/2009, -0/+5Some good info, but I wince whenever I see Lifehacker's list of "reliable and affordable" webhosts.
- DMCer, on 03/01/2009, -0/+4Because it's useful.
- KingofGnG, on 02/28/2009, -1/+4Well, they forgot one of the best off-line blog editors out there, Zoundry Raven....

- Paulish, on 03/01/2009, -2/+4Seriously. Dreamhost? Really?
- EdwardsNH, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2And I wince when someone calls someone's suggestion bad, without giving a good alternative.
You got anything myendess? - nextekcarl, on 03/01/2009, -1/+3They are too bad as long as they don't mistakenly bill you for a year's worth of charges you don't yet owe. Twice. Or have crap for service. Oh, and end up on Comcast's spam blacklist. Oh, wait, they suck. Do I sound bitter or what?
- myendess, on 03/01/2009, -0/+2I see your point, but sadly the best answer is this: do some research on your own. Ask around. Shoot emails off to the support departments of various hosts to judge response times and quality. Be realistic about what hosts are offering versus their pricing structures.
I've used Precisioneffect.com for a couple work projects and recommended them to clients and friends, so they're currently the best on my list.
NearlyFreeSpeech.NET is the only one on Lifehacker's list that I'd recommend.
Lifehacker's list is made up of hosts I've tried, one or two which started off great but could not keep up with the growth of their business. Perhaps in another 5 years I'll have a bigger list of "good" hosts. - JulieBMack, on 03/07/2009, -0/+1Thanks for this info!
- Haplo, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1Better, the www is just an artefact. Configure your site to use example.com and redirect www.example.com to example.com, see: http://johnbokma.com/mexit/2004/04/12/rewritingurl ...
- findhostcoupons, on 03/22/2009, -0/+1Actually, I am a blog owner myself, so that I can find the information in this post very useful!
- lancedice, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1Have you heard anything about Liquidweb? I'm thinking about getting them for VPS and then later on dedicated.
- MaRo2bb, on 03/01/2009, -0/+1It's really cool. I really appriciate your work.
- firestormcs, on 03/05/2009, -0/+0thanks! good find!
- MaRo2bb, on 03/01/2009, -0/+0Such a great help
- inactive, on 02/28/2009, -1/+1Looks like the NFL is having Google remove some of my tailgate videos off YouTube (because some include small portions of the game). Whats a cheap or free way to host my own videos? I already have direct links in XViD format, but most of my friends don't know how to use it.
- pauljroberts, on 03/01/2009, -0/+0Beginners will love this article. Gives great head start and understanding. Established webmasters remember, not everyone knows this stuff like you do. Basic math comes before algebra ;-) So, don't knock it as junk.
- waysofmylife, on 07/13/2009, -0/+0Here is a great free hosting website that host all my blogs http://www.hostami.me/
- inactive, on 03/01/2009, -0/+0yes good http://www.dodownload.net/network-and-internet/goo ...
- LSWHITSON, on 02/28/2009, -2/+1Really good information for beginners. I would have loved to had something like this when I first started! :)
- MortenBergsten, on 02/28/2009, -2/+1Well, concerning people ripping off your content. I wouldn't really bother with it... To much energy for nothing.
- jackabilly, on 03/01/2009, -1/+0These comments suck and this top 10 is pretty much useless.
- inactive, on 03/01/2009, -3/+1Just stream them through your xbox360 and tell your friends to come over.
- metmarko, on 02/28/2009, -7/+1A nice list for new bloggers with several useful links to other resources... finding a great domain name, "copyrighting" your RSS feed to help in case of theft, and optimizing your blog for iPhone users are some of the ten tips.

http://www.howtomakemyblog.com - inactive, on 02/28/2009, -9/+1That domai.nr site is a good resource. I found it and a bunch of other tools at the domain site I use, http://www.finding-domains.com where they have all the domain tools in one place.
I just found a $4000 domain today and bought it for $6.99 thanks to some of their tools.
Dot-coms still rule the roost.
CopyScape is great, and you cannot really sue anyone for damages in the US unless you register everything with the copyright office, that's why there is so much thieving going on. If you register it and they steal it, then you can sue their ass off and take their house if they have one.
I read an article on "Copyright Judo", where they said to just sprinkle absolute links to your site in your text, this way if those lazy content thieves steal your stuff, at least you get some backlinks out of it. There was an article on that over at hubpages.com I think.
