- Daz3, on 02/28/2008, -1/+5There is a firefox plugin that has been around for over a year which allows you to download youtube videos...
- modbox, on 02/28/2008, -0/+3Firefox plug-in: downloadhelper, the best.
- yohnstoppable, on 02/28/2008, -1/+4I'm digging you up while pretending I know what "turgid" means
- deadcrickets, on 02/28/2008, -1/+4Yes and on the same exact day the paid, professional social networking submitters like msaleem submit too. Do a google search on msaleem one day. He hits EVERY social networking site. He talks about it on his blog and admits what he does too.
- 3leggedHorse, on 02/29/2008, -0/+2 Better youtube is the best downloader well for firefox anyway.

- bitcloud, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Miro (Formerly known as democracy) lets you download the youtube videos (and others... divx for example... nearly any format) and store them locally...
It's a great bit of software..
Noone has bridged the gap though, letting you stream *and* download all in the one breath... (youtube lets you stream but not download, and everything else lets you download but not stream... Miro seems the closest, but still for some reason won't let you play until it's finished downloading) - hadak, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Yes. That's why I bookmarked the page that has a direct download. Hard to find yet - but thanks for helping clarify. Their website is trash.
- antdude, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1Orbit Downloader as a third party download manager.
- kevyn, on 02/29/2008, -0/+1some genuis on digg directed me to www.idesktop.tv once and i've never looked back. you can create playlists easier and download with a nice interface
- ByteGuerilla, on 02/28/2008, -1/+2Whoops! The app there is actually called AoA Audio Extractor. My bad.
- giveer, on 02/28/2008, -0/+1I don't know if direct linking works (with apologies to the heroes at SUPER), but if your http referrer is buggy or you don't like reading, SUPER's website is a BITCH.
http://www.erightsoft.org/GetFile.php?SUPERsetup.e ... - sourceholder, on 03/02/2008, -0/+0I dunno about conversion, but I know qGrab.com enables downloads from redtube + others. You can convert later using progs, or upload to sites like Zamzar.
- matlesiouxx, on 02/29/2008, -0/+0What is nice about some of those converters (like MediaConverter) is that they offer both Open Standards containers (mkv) and free codecs (xvid).
now you can digg me down to hell FOSS haters ;) - sourceholder, on 03/02/2008, -0/+0I keep it simple - qGrab.com. Doesn't offer conversions, but easy downloads.
- Leetamus, on 02/28/2008, -0/+0I just tried using http://download.leechvideo.com/ to do it from jumpcut and it seems to work.. good luck!
- CarStan, on 02/28/2008, -1/+1does this also work with redtube or pornhub?
Can anyone recommend some sites? - LingLing1337, on 02/28/2008, -10/+10Nice submission, been looking for a 2 year old article that doesn't deserve to hit front page and could easily be found by Googling "Online Media Converter"
- sourceholder, on 03/02/2008, -0/+0Hmm... I pasted it into qGrab.com and it worked.
- joegibes, on 02/28/2008, -1/+1..which means that if you violate the ToS, there are no legal penalties, but Youtube can legally suspend service to you (not sure how that works).
- penelopa727, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0http://www.youtubeclipextractor.com
- bohemian03, on 03/09/2008, -0/+0zamzar is the best so far i think...
- p00pd0g, on 02/29/2008, -2/+1forgot Videora, which is easily the best for the PC
- seanc6610, on 02/28/2008, -2/+1is there an XP-compatible equivalent? All the converters I've tried for XP suck.
- azher, on 02/29/2008, -1/+0nice one ah :)
- ByteGuerilla, on 02/28/2008, -3/+2Sorry for the hijack. Just want to add another tool to the list: Replay Media Catcher - http://www.applian.com/replay-media-catcher/index. ...
It will intercept and save FLVs and RTMP streams (like the music streams played in the flash audio applets on MySpace).
Using this and AoA Media Extractor ( http://www.aoamedia.com/index.htm ) you can pull the original audio from an FLV. - TheKingInYellow, on 02/28/2008, -4/+3vixy works like maybe 1 out of 100 times. it's incredibly unreliable.
what is up with convert tube's gui? gross. - theaceoffire, on 02/28/2008, -2/+1You (finger)Nailed it.
- say592, on 02/29/2008, -3/+1Zamzar has been a personal favorite for several months now. I always tell people to use it.
Im not sure I would ever leave Zamzar to try one of those others lol - Leetamus, on 02/28/2008, -2/+0I typically just take the link string to the flv file in the page source then download that and add the .flv extension, works great. These are even easier though, the one I just tried had an option to pick your output format which is awesome! One less step, good find.
- jamesov89, on 02/28/2008, -4/+1I use a program called tubetv . . .
- Llanowar, on 02/28/2008, -4/+1...
- sonicjosh, on 02/28/2008, -4/+1Youtube poop?? Cause youtube poop is funny, search for it. or I have a small playlist at youtube.com/sonicjoshalt
- inactive, on 02/28/2008, -7/+3this article is packed with solid research... not sure why the comments are so neg...
- bitterbug, on 02/28/2008, -6/+1I'd add KeepVid.com to the list as well.
It worked nicely when I was transferring some of my old vids over to metacafe and no longer had the originals. (Metacafe's own converter kept choking on the youtube URL's for some reason) -
