- gfw123, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11I don't want an Apple PVR; I want a TiVo. TiVo's are great products, very well engineered and thought out, just like the new Intel iMacs are. I just want them to work together.
I don't support DRM'ed content of any kind at any price, so I don't care what Jobbs does with any movie content he gets a hold of, I won't be using it. I use iTunes and the iPod, but I don't buy anything from the DRM'ed encumbered iTunes music store.
The solution TiVo did for Window's iPod owners is the exact same one they need for Mac users. They don't need Jobs at all. If I can take a .tivo file (DRM'ed MPEG2 content) and convert it to unencumbered MPEG4 content for iPods on Windows systems then I can do it on the Mac.
You are correct that Macs have a small market share but that share is growing. Time will tell by how much. Myself, I am onboard and will be a squeeky wheel to let them know we are out here. - seinman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The Series 3 TiVo units are scheduled to be released late this year (last I checked, at least). Multiple tuners, CableCard compatible, onboard ethernet, external SATA hard drive port... these machines are going to rock.
- ingoldsby, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9The RIAA needs to jump off a cliff.
- DVRDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I've posted screengrabs here, showing the scheduling features and conversion & sync options (Nokia, Treo, iPod, PSP, etc): http://www.zatznotfunny.com/2006-06/tivo-dekstop-23-released/
- gfw123, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9It appears, at first glance, that mac users are screwed again......

Yeah, I have dual boot going as well, but its the scheduled transfers that I really need and I don't want to stay in XP all the time for that.
With the next version of OS X it will, supposedly, have virtualization like Parallels, if that gets here before TivoToGo for the mac I will use that. - jl24, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The US are so lucky to have the ability to transfer Tivo content to their devices. Here in the UK, Tivo doesn't even make products anymore! And still no TV content on iTunes to download
- VincentIII, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I wonder how long it will take before the RIAA and the MPAA start complaining saying you need to buy individual copies for your treo, iPod and PSP seperately...
- gfw123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@johnhummel
If you have a mixed 802.11G and 802.11B setup, get rid of your B wireless
devices, they will *really* slow down a G network. - DrewClayton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2this isn't a major upgrade and $24.95 is ridiculous. they seem to love teaming up with companies, how about yahoo's musicmatch jukebox? i want playlists and tagged organization! damn you, TiVo, the service i love so much but want oh so much more from!!
- wired4u, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I miss having a tivo, but sadly I had to dump it when I got an hdtv. Tivo NEEDS a dual hdtv dvr, I dont care what it cost just make it already.
- frobozz0, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Dear god ... where is the Mac support with this? Macs have every other piece of the equation solved ... easy DVD burning, easy movie creation, good graphics support. I just don't get it. How does Windows get this first? I guess I understand the standard market share argument, but it just isn't that difficult to get this done on a Mac. It's got to be *easier.*
- roentgen, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6It's TiVo that's screwing Mac users, considering that TiVo has been promising that full Mac support was imminent for YEARS...
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm just not in an environment where I can - and I shouldn't have to. Over a 54 Mbit connection, it shouldn't take this long. I've all but decided to go Myth this fall anyway (unless Apple releases something yummy).
But thanks for the tip! - BLKMGK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Umm, TIVO *do* have USB2 ports. However the drivers SUCK. I have a DTIVO and I can transfer shows quite quickly - wired though. Wireless is just asking for hassle I'd rather avoid. Dealdatabase.com has all the info you could ever need for this stuff - don't need the TIVO software...
- burgeltz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2$24.95? TVHarmony Autopilot already does scheduled downloads and iPod conversion, and it's free. http://www.tvharmony.com/main/products.php
- zerokey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You've got your tivo running with a wireless adapter, don't you? I had the same problem. Move to a wired ethernet adapter for the tivo (annoying, yes). I pull half hour shows down in about 7 minutes. (If only the tivo had usb2 ports :P )
- marosnax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is a nice step foward but my only delima is that the quality will be in SD when the series 3 comes out and the tivo can do HD this would then be perfect, though I am still intrested in the comcast/tivo box.
- ingoldsby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I just have a copy of windows running on my mac that I can load up for stuff like this. :)
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1i just wish the coversion tools were also free, but unfortunatley it costs 24.99 for that one feature because tivo has to pay apple royalty fee's for the use of the mp4 format.
more info here: http://www.skattertech.com/2006/06/tivo-desktop-v23-released/ - AirShark, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2One comment: Direct Show Dump.
Convert your TiVo2Go files to plain old un-DRM'd MPEG files
http://prish.com/etivo/downloads/Beta/DsdDebug0.1.618.0.msi - CMiYC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2No HD and no Mac support for the new features. I'll still stick with my Series 1 until then.
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2MythTV will allow you to burn or copy to any media you wish; free as the original broadcast laws were intended.
Dump your TiVo, imo. - marklar69, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1directv dvr users are still screwed, I cant transfer movies from my modded dtv tivo :(
- johnhummel, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Considering that it takes about 1 hour to transfer a 30 minute show, I'm less than excited.
- kbdrand, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I won't be buying a Tivo Series 3 even though they have HD support because they aren't supporting Satellite service. It's a cable only box, bleh.
- DavisFreeberg, on 10/12/2007, -14/+8Is it TiVo that is screwing Mac users or is it Steve Jobs who refuses to release his own PVR despite the clear demand for PVRs? I blame Jobs because he'd rather get $9.99 for every movie you watch instead of letting you copy as much as you want off of your cable connection. You should quit your complaining and just be glad that TiVo is working on a solution for the 5% fringe that insists on owning a Mac, despite how unprofitable it might be for them to build this functionality.
