- FoxFaction, on 02/11/2008, -2/+39It's confusing the spokesman for Firefox has the same last name as a popular video game company.
"Starcraft: Internet" - HedwigDies, on 02/11/2008, -2/+38His last name is Blizzard?! How unbelievably cool.
- darkNiGHTS, on 02/11/2008, -2/+31Even Opera fanboys have to admit Firefox is important to the future of the internet. Firefox is mainstream enough to have influence on developers so if they embrace open standards, there's a good chance that those open standards will become widely used.
- toxicityj, on 02/11/2008, -2/+24brought to you by the people you made tabs popular*
- br0wnstar, on 02/11/2008, -2/+18Blizzard is one badass last name.
- ApokalypseNow, on 02/11/2008, -2/+17Much as I'd like to think so as well, the masses will not switch from IE - their logic is either that IE works well enough for them, they don't want to get used to a new browser, or that they already have a browser so why get another?
- Hobolord, on 02/11/2008, -1/+14yeah, I read Blizzard and Firefox in the same title.
"New MMO: World of Netscape" - Bishop256, on 02/11/2008, -0/+8blizzard and firefox in the same sentence makes me happy in my pants.
- ApokalypseNow, on 02/11/2008, -0/+8Yeah, that's another one that I overlooked - there are lots of reasons people will use to not switch, despite such a switch being a worthwhile endeavor for both usability and security. People can justify anything, if they really want to.
It isn't so much a switch to Firefox that would be a good thing, but rather a switch away from IE. - brutimus, on 02/11/2008, -0/+7Also the same last name as a blowing snow storm...
- ValeryHit, on 02/11/2008, -9/+16I think Firefox will become the most commonly used browser in few years.
- H3LLSL337, on 02/11/2008, -2/+8As long as they get rid of this damn memory leak, I'll be okay.
- GreyICE, on 02/11/2008, -1/+7Old news: Opera is free.
- tba2287, on 02/11/2008, -6/+12Meh, FF has its memory leakage, but it's still the best browser out there for Wintel PCs (Camino, that other Mozilla browser, is better for Macs). Between NoScript and AdBlock, I'm set.
- renegadeafk, on 02/11/2008, -0/+6netcaptor?
- ApokalypseNow, on 02/11/2008, -1/+6Or you could use IceWeasel
http://www.geticeweasel.org - Nanobe, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5The first web browser with tabs was InternetWorks, a fairly unknown browser that never became popular. Opera and NetCaptor implemented them before Mozilla and Firefox. Firefox is often credited for "bringing tabs to the mainstream" by doing a better job than previous browsers at marketing them.
- TheDude77, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5Opera Mobile isn't free... Opera Mini is
- danc4498, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5I'm crossing my fingers for Firefox mobile being released for the iPhone. I can't stand the safari browser.
- trolldetective, on 02/11/2008, -2/+7Interesting. I hadn't heard of Midori. I am curious though... why do you not mention Epiphany, which will probably use Webkit too at some point in the future?
- SQLserver, on 02/11/2008, -0/+5http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-beta.html
Google is your friend :) - johnnysaucepn, on 02/12/2008, -0/+4It makes a lot of claims. Most of which are outright lies.
- stillasleep00, on 02/11/2008, -0/+4Or that it IS the internet- they don't actually know what a browser is.
- tlcstudio, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3not bad a post, i like firefox, my best browser
- insertAliasHere, on 02/11/2008, -0/+3http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nig ... will get you the latest nightly build.
- trolldetective, on 02/11/2008, -1/+4"Well you do not represent the main stream."
So what? Cry me a frickin' river.
"You sound like one of those holier than thou Linux or apps users."
Since when did he say anything like that? He said he's excited about a new layout engine, since it will make his desktop look nicer. And it's true. So give the man a frickin' break. - PueSi, on 02/12/2008, -0/+3The beta of Firefox 3 already looks promising, it's a huge improvement over Firefox 2 in the memory consumption department.
- Darkhacker, on 02/12/2008, -1/+3Opera is free as in beer, not as in speech.
(I'm not a Stallmanite or anything, but I prefer free as in speech when possible) - SSUK, on 02/11/2008, -2/+4Too late, SkyFire is approaching public release and claimed to be a standards compliant browser which supports Flash 9, Java and is extremely quick. http://www.skyfire.com/
- inactive, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2I have a question, if they employ so many coders why do small updates take so long? This "Firefox 2" and "Firefox 3" people get exited over don't seem much different (from a casual prospective)
- johnnysaucepn, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Opera users do realise that FF is important, as long as developers realise their time should be split between IE and open standards, not IE and FF. FF is the best way to get open standards implemented, but not at the cost of creating a false dilemma.
- soadnick, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2I know, I try to convince my dad to start using FireFox, but he always gives me one of the answers that you mentioned above. It's pretty frustrating. Old people can be stubborn....
- Nanobe, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2I don't think it's realistically possible to get the majority of Windows users informed enough and interested enough to switch from their default browser, but at least the growth of Firefox has pushed Microsoft to reform its Internet Explorer development team and start making a real effort at improving IE again.
- MacSuxWindozSux, on 02/11/2008, -2/+4And one of their security experts has the last name "Window".
He reported a vulnerability a few weeks ago and I called it "Another one of Window's vulnerabilities". - ElBeh, on 02/11/2008, -1/+3Beta 2 in the latest one released.
- etx313, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2It's a cool addition to the flash platform, but not a threat to the web at all. Mozilla is just butthurt that it uses WebKit to render out html and ajax stuff.
- Darkhacker, on 02/12/2008, -0/+2Although Beta 3 took a really long time, Beta 4 is expected to be a really fast turnaround and come out near the end of February. Release candidates could start by mid-March and hopefully on schedule for a first quarter final release.

- vwvan, on 02/11/2008, -1/+3yeah, Adobe Air is another case of a company owning a language. Its like private police forces, or private medical care. Lots of pretty words. Lots of hurting people.
- ladalang, on 02/11/2008, -1/+3Love firefox. Hate IE. IE always locks up and gives plenty of spyware and malware just by logging on. Use IE only when I absolutely have to.
- PayneX, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2Future firefox cannot stop you installing Adobe's craplets.
- PayneX, on 02/11/2008, -0/+2My last name is "Cool".
/lie - LouCypher, on 02/11/2008, -1/+2Correcting your comment:
And one of their security experts has the _first_ name "Window".
_She_ reported a vulnerability a few weeks ago and I called it "Another one of Window's vulnerabilities". - Darkhacker, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1I apologize if I came off sounding "holier than thou". That certainly wasn't my intention. I really do love Firefox, I just hate the fact that it is based off of Gecko. WebKit is twice as fast (according to SunSpider and I-Bench) and it has a cleaner codebase. That's not to say "Gecko sucks", but I just strongly believe that WebKit is a better rendering engine.
- renegadeafk, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1foxit
- CaptainPlanet25, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1I hear you man, this Safari crap is really slowing down my mobile internet.
- blzbulb, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1Firefox, FTW
Can't wait for 3. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1What do you call it when they have man and woman parts?
- tba2287, on 02/12/2008, -0/+1A few weeks ago FF alone was using up more than half a gig on my 1 GB HP Pavilion. Of course, I'm the kind of person who leaves open 5-10 tabs.
I gotta upgrade to 2 GB at least. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 02/11/2008, -0/+1I don't know about memory leaks, but some of the features can use extra memory.
Some of the addons are poorly programmed and do cause instability/leaks/vulnerabilities/etc. -
