- indochris609, on 04/05/2009, -8/+124You know, I've done a little thinking lately. And quite honestly I am sick to death of all a new "Top # Firefox Addon" list on Digg every week. Because I love Firefox so much I feel obligated to click on the link, and I am disappointed time after time. Over the past year or so I've been a member of Digg I've probably seen hundreds of add-ons under the titles "Best," "Essential," "Must Have," blah blah blah BLAH.
Out of these hundreds I've seen, I have four: IE Tab, Adblock Plus (with element hider, so maybe it's four and a half), one click weather, and stumbleupon. So far I don't have a need for another one. These sensationalist digg headlines are making me dumber and dumber, and one of these days a genuinely useful and time-saving addon will appear on Digg and I'm going to miss out on it because I'll see the headline and think to myself "***** you, you ***** ***** for another one of these timewasting piece of ***** 'top addon lists'" and keep scrolling down the Digg frontpage.
Or maybe I'll just keep clicking them because I have nothing better to do. Like make long pointless digg comments.
Bye. - GeyserShitdick, on 04/05/2009, -0/+34There's a firefox add-on to keep track of those now.
- evergrim, on 04/05/2009, -1/+27Who wrote this article, a primary schooler?
"There are lots of ease provided by the firefox" - kephas, on 04/05/2009, -1/+17I would add to this list Ubiquity, which does many things, but I mostly use it for easy translation. I have it set up so that all I need to do is highlight some text, hit ctrl+space, and it'll show the translation to english. Still experimental but works well.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/952 ... - phenom2k7, on 04/05/2009, -3/+19I love these lists because at times you'll come across a gem that's worth the hassle. And it's interesting to see how people use firefox for different uses. I personally I have 34 add-ons and I use them all. Just because the list doesn't offer YOU anything doesn't mean it's universal.
Also, it takes 2 minutes to read such lists. Your whining about something that takes 2 ***** minutes to do where the only physically demands is clicking your mouse and moving your eyes. - kephas, on 04/05/2009, -0/+16My first reaction to seeing the Diggbar was "Ok, now how do I get rid of this?" Luckily, you can disable it in the viewing preferences section of your settings.
- thebloodvayne, on 04/05/2009, -5/+19Out of all of these, Sxipper and Tab Sidebar are probably what I would consider installing.
The others I don't see using or are too much of a hassle. I don't really use bookmarks often and the only social sites I visit are digg and facebook. - sotbat2, on 04/05/2009, -7/+21Do we need another website about Firefox Add-ons?
- fxu1989, on 04/05/2009, -0/+13NoScript.
No more shock sites. - rockon4life45, on 04/05/2009, -0/+12Morning Coffee Replacement
Place or make copies of the bookmarks that you check in the morning into a book marks folder. Center click the folder. It'll open all the bookmarks in the folder into their own tabs - jannefoo, on 04/05/2009, -0/+9"You may be interested in our other related post..."

"You May be Interested In More Interesting Free Resources..."
no I'm not interested, stop pushing your ***** articles down my throat - MasterKopek, on 04/05/2009, -0/+8Another fantastic one is SkipScreen. It was recently featured on Lifehacker and so far, I love it.
http://skipscreen.com/ - javiero, on 04/05/2009, -1/+7How come ubiquity is not there?
- Slackdragon, on 04/05/2009, -4/+10I just want a Firefox add-on that bypasses or automatically closes the goddamn Diggbar page hijacker.
- inactive, on 04/05/2009, -0/+6Don't ***** with the firefox
- GoatMonkey2112, on 04/05/2009, -0/+6Yeah, I really don't want my bookmarks synchronized. As much as I'd like to be able to surf porn at work...
- Toshibi, on 04/05/2009, -0/+5I do AdBlock Plus, Foxmarks Bookmark Sync, and Google Notebook.
- lear, on 04/05/2009, -2/+7doesn't make mine slower and always keep at least a dozen at all times
- fxu1989, on 04/05/2009, -0/+560 addons? Do you use all of them?
I only have 6 and I use all of them on a daily basis. - DarkredDragon, on 07/07/2009, -3/+8Yeah I got 60 addons running at the moment, 5 others disabled, and 3 themes installed, currently running Red Shift V3. Firefox is running smoothly at the moment and I haven’t ever hard any problems with it. By the way my computer has 3 gigs of 500 MHZ ram, a Intel Core 2 6300 (clocked at 1.86GHZ on each core) & a integrated Graphic card, and I am running Windows XP.
- WomensUnderwear, on 04/05/2009, -1/+6that is the standard nowadays on the internet. everything has gone to ***** *****.
- D3koy, on 04/05/2009, -1/+5Why is it that these "time savers" often end with me spending much more time on the internet NOT doing work? What I need is a "Dude, get off the internet" app that reminds me I've got ***** to do.
- Satanael, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4#8 Zotero... If you're a student of any kind and need to keep track of your research sources, it will do it. It even exports them in almost any format (MLA, etc.). It's a life-saver.
- zimmermans, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4I like "Automatic Save Folder" https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/478 ...
Takes a bit of tweaking, but now my downloads get sorted into pics, video, torrents, docs, without having to do any extra clicking, or use a download manager, just a few regular expressions IE: /.*\.(pdf|docx?|rtf)$/ puts all the word, pdf and rtf into a single folder. - hawksfan03, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4flashblock
- Slackdragon, on 04/05/2009, -0/+4Kephas, thanks a ton! Diggbar enthusiastically...DISABLED.
- sephiroth965, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3"I love Firefox so much I feel obligated to click on the link, and I am disappointed time after time."
That's always how I feel too, but only until I get to the comments where I usually find something good. - Gotar, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3I say no.
- inactive, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3In other words hes a douche
- rpapi100, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3I agree.
I just counted and I have 23 addons and about 26 unique scripts installed via the stylish addon. As in your case I use them all.
IMO, the benefit of finding 1 good addon or script out weight the hassle of scrolling down these lists. - Shogi, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3I don't know who's burying comments on Ubiquity, but they're clearly an idiot. Such an amazing time saver. quick and easy google/wiki/imdb searches for highlighted text, translation, twitter, etc. Hell, you can even pull up a map of a highlighted address, get directions, and email them without leaving the page.
- nemodomi, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3Since you asked, oteque is "an active digger and love Digg community..I will digg each submission and shout from my friends. Please add me if you are an active digger too and I'll make it mutual..Frequently I check and REMOVE friends who dont digg at least 50% of my submissions."
So there you go. - vsujohn2, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3He puts the lotion on the skin.
- chippyr, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3Well, I could just click the pause button as soon as the video loads up. I would find it annoying to have to click it every time.
- carter1337, on 04/05/2009, -0/+3These ideas blow
- Lukasin, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2no we don't!
- bepartofmynovel, on 04/05/2009, -1/+3I used safari 3 on my mac. got safari 4 beta... and switched to firefox. saf 4 is a complete design disaster in my opinion.
- Sabretou, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2I've been using YubNub for I at least a year now and I've found it a lot more intuitive and varied than Ubiquity. Not dissing Ubiquity or anything, it's great, but YubNub's been there, done that already.
- A5204, on 08/13/2009, -1/+3I love Hyperwords (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/194 ... It gives you every option you can think of in your right click menu. Right click and have real time translation right on the page, immediately search with a ton of different engines, convert currency. It's the first add on I download for people when I show them Firefox.
- DAILYCROW, on 04/05/2009, -1/+3***** digg bar!
it showed up last week by auto install
that baloney belongs to PC tricks not Mac
I couldnt believe it. - Renton, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2Computers make my head hurt. Lets go shopping!
- mrBitch, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2FF should really do what Safari does RE youtube and other flash content.
In Safari, the content is buffered (cached), but won't start playing until you click on the tab, at which time the flash video will start playing. - RcFromTwitter, on 10/10/2009, -0/+2What about oldbar to hide the porn that comes up?
- LifeNova, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2Articles like this are dumb, everyone has their own preferences
- bepartofmynovel, on 04/05/2009, -1/+3does anyone know if the an addon like the following exists for firefox:
I want to have a play/pause button ON ANY TAB that is displaying a youtube video, radio stream, etc. it would be much more comfortable to simply click on such a button instead of clicking on the tab and then pause the video/audio file... - inactive, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2I'll let you guys on a little secret. I made a list like this for a company I worked for. I just threw in their web app along with like 8 other unrelated firefox web tools. Then I submitted it to a blog. Got it on digg. Got to the front page. Downloads for my company's website went up tenfold.
These lists are nothing but PR campaigns. And the I can tell you right now that Cooliris is the one responsible for this. Nothing else related to that product makes it on the list (so that their type of service isn't challenged) and also because that site is known for such marketing
anyway, most of you probably already knew. - DarkredDragon, on 07/07/2009, -0/+2I have a lot of addons that just run in the background, most of them I probably don't use daily but I like to keep the ones I've used in the past in case I need them again.
- sephiroth965, on 04/05/2009, -0/+2Add-ons aren't what make firefox slow. I have 29 add-ons installed and running right now plus 2 more that are disabled. Firefox's mem usage is barely higher than it is when I'm running it without add-ons. If you aren't using add-ons and only care about speed you should be using chrome instead of firefox anyway.
