- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11>TVTonic for some reason, even when closed and no downloads are occuring. keeps an application running in the background called WXRSS.exe which when closed down, restarts. It uses a little bit of resources and its just annoying that you can’t get rid of it.
WXRSS.exe - exactly what I said before, this constitutes as malware - it refuses to close even when terminated, and restarts itself back again. If you close it down, it launches itself back along with WXMediaplayer.exe, if you close both down, it launches another file that launches WXRSS - which then relaunches wxmediaplayer.exe .
Any program that refuses to shut itself down when the user closes it is essentially malware. This is the main problem I have with TVTonic, also it requires windows media player and launches in Internet Explorer as you've already mentioned. - leoedin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4the moment It said I needed IE to use it, I quit.
- diggersupreme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Its very different to Democracy - although they do the same thing. Get Democracy is hugely buggey and has been plagued with memory leaks and sluggishness. Atleast on the Windows Version anyway.
TVTonic is much better for reliability. Its extremely easy to use to plus you can use it with a remote control on MCE! and it even works through an Xbox! Now thats cool! - atemyshorts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone got this to work with the Xbox 360? Do you add it like Media Center? If so, where do you put the code from the Xbox into the TVTonic Interface? Of do I need the PC xbox software for this, unlike TVersity?
- MediaShipper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5no
- TWhid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hi,
I'm one of the TVTonic developers. You can shut down WXRSS.exe by following these instructions: http://www.tvtonic.com/forum/kb.php?mode=article&k=158
We're not malware. - adam8281, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3unless I'm missing something on the site, it's XBOX 360 compatible, not XBOX compatible. If this is the case, the title is misleading, and got my poor hopes up :-(
- diggersupreme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2because its one of the most popular vidcasts and one of the first to reach a huge audience, as a result its had a huge amount of press coverage. But like you I haven't really watched it that much.
- AlanKc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2When talking about vidcasts, why do most people use a picture of Rocketboom?
I have nothing against the vidcast, I have only seen it once or twice.. I was just wondering.. - xGORDOx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I use this software and I think it is great.
i didn't have to add any "code". I installed the software and it added itself to my Media Center software. When I access MC through Xbox360 I have to look for the program in "other programs" or whatever it is called.
I watch Diggnation on my 46" DLP - doesn't really mak ethe show any better, but Gametrailers.com has video podcasts and they stream in HD - they look awesome!
The 360 should auto detect MC on your PC - TVTonic gets added to your MC. I was really surprised at how easy it was and was more pleased with the results. I just wish they had more channels. - barneygumble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree, I thought I could add this to my xbox functionality. Bah!
- AlanKc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this one based around VLC? It didn't say in the article..
- diggersupreme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1alamkc: no I dont think it does use VLC - there is no mention of it on the TVTonic website anyway...
- dimsum05, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1TVTonic is best for vlogs/video podcasts and works like a charm in MCE... except for one thing that really annoyed me, but is really not that bad:
They put this one feed that gives you previews of popular podcast's, but you can't remove it (or at least I couldn't find a way how.) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it WAS. BTW anyone notice that Amandon Congondon has her show on blip.tv but it's doing really poor, plus she whored to Dove.
- Locuester, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Integrates into a media center PC with xbox 360 perfectly. Just install on a media center PC, then connect to the media center via your xbox 360. service is listed under "programs".
Will not subscribe to Hak.5. Boo. - Renshep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Can't get the damn thing to load Hak.5
- Amigaice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Been using it for a while. Two problems I found is it will not let you choose where to put the video files. Defaults to C:submenu/submenu/ . The second is you can't fast forward the videos. I watch DL.TV on it and I can't stop the video from fast forwarding once you start.
- JAKEJAX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have tried this last year on my MCE computer. It was not smooth at all. Maybe I will give it another try.
- TheProfessional, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How exactly does this thing interface with the xbox 360? I've been looking around their website for a while now and all I can find is "Seamlessly integrates with the Xbox 360 console with the click of a button". I want screenshots or a description of what it does. Why is that so hard to provide Mr. TVTonic website? :(
- barneygumble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no
- jagtar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1can it work with a modded xbox 1?
- trvr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1sidizzle: you could use democracy player to download the shows, and just share the folder that the podcast download to. Then, just play them through XBMC.
Or, you could use something like the ZiffDavis script on xbmcscripts.com to stream the shows. - TheLD, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"We're Sorry
TVTonic is compatible with Internet Explorer 6 or higher. Please install and use TVTonic with Internet Explorer."
Why can't they make it independent of IE? - gokite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Very nice program. New interface is loads better than the last one. Much better than the "other" softare I used.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2yup it's exactly like democracy, but a little more buggy - only works in IE (opens window in IE). A little difficult to uninstall, but it's really good program. Again the name is a little misleading, it's more podcast vod content, still good though. The Live tv type stuff is generally from http://tvuplayer.org or http://www.freetube.us.tc .
Also try out getdemocracy.com if your interested in this kind of stuff. - krikoko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I prefer other TV guide http://www.lordoftv.com
- sidizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You and me both! I was hoping this would be compatible with XBMC or something of the like. Anyone have any suggestions for something like this?
- garrettgjb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I ran this program on my media center pc and it ran like crap, but It was pretty cool. I watched the broken and stuff like that on my TV.
- grapenutz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I installed it...and so far, it seems like a good solution to watching my onlie faves. I was able to fast forward stuff, too (in MCE). So far, so good. Vid quality is geat.
- Adlad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well I wasn't impressed at all. Downloading took a couple of minutes (no problem there). Installing was a bit slow. Biggest problem though was how long the video took to load. I added Rocketboom to my playlist and sat there for 30 seconds waiting for it to start... Nothing...
Closed IE and tried shutting the program down. WXRSS.exe kept restarting, even when I manually ended it from the Task Manager. That's pretty lame.
How do people put so much time and effort into something and forget the most important basic things? The least a user can expect is instant viewing of their desired content. It's possible... Just look at YouTube... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1yawn. another advertisement
- Torx, on 10/12/2007, -14/+1Anyone got a DIGG hat they wanna sell?!?!
