I hate to do this, but we've closed the public beta temporarily until we can upgrade our hardware to handle the load. If you were one of the thousands of people who used Spanning Sync in the last few hours, you'll still be able to sync. But if you haven't yet used the system, I'm going to have to ask you to wait just a bit longer.
We're thrilled (and a little freaked out) by the literally overwhelming response, but we want to make sure all of our users have the best experience possible. With any luck, the public beta will open again tomorrow, with a lot more capacity to handle the load. Thank you for your patience.
Even if you were still able to download the file they are not allowing people to register with them to Sync their calenders. So getting the file now is still pointless. They did say though that they are going to try and release it again later today (Wednesday) once they have their servers set up to handle the huge increase in traffic.
Wow, perfect. this comes out, literally, the very day I buy a mac mini for my desktop, so I could sync up my laptop's ical with something more permanent. I guess the spanning sync will still be cool to have.
I'm not quite sure how this works? Am I buying software that actually do something or software that lets me access an app on their servers that do the actual sync-trick?? If the latter is the case, what happens with functionality, if they go out of business or like now where there server dies??
My one wish for 2007: that Google (who has been working pretty tight with Apple lately, DUH) will release a decent 2-way sync tool for iCal and Google Calendar. Come on gang, gimme the works-- a widget, quicksilver hooks, etc. Google is like 2 seconds away from being a GTD god. Just gimme inline private notes on emails, a way to tag and alarm follow up items (in email, doc, spreadsheet, etc.) and I'm yours, body and soul.
