Public Beta Temporarily Closed
I hate to do this, but we've closed the public beta temporarily until we can upgrade our hardware to handle the load. If you were one of the thousands of people who used Spanning Sync in the last few hours, you'll still be able to sync. But if you haven't yet used the system, I'm going to have to ask you to wait just a bit longer.
We're thrilled (and a little freaked out) by the literally overwhelming response, but we want to make sure all of our users have the best experience possible. With any luck, the public beta will open again tomorrow, with a lot more capacity to handle the load. Thank you for your patience. - skilless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5The more I consider this, the worse it seems. If their servers are actually contacting Google that means they are sending my username & password to their server. That's awful. I won't trust my gmail password with anyone.
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Also, I can't help but think that things would be easier for them if they didn't insist on funneling all my events through their own proxy server. :D
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Outlook to Google Calender would be great but will your app also go Google Calender to Outlook. Going both ways is the key, iCal can already sync with Google Calender but Spanning Sync allows the reverse as well.
- skilless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Why does this rely on their servers to perform a sync? Google Calendar is already online, there's no need for third-party storage of calendars, and in fact it worries me that there is a third party involved at all. I expected a solution that was more streamlined. I'm disappointed.
- Kloser331, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Admitting you use Outlook in a Mac software digg story is like a wearing a KKK uniform to an NAACP convention.
- schack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3That won't happen as long as apple keeps pushing dot.mac as the osxweb integrating tool.
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Totally agree, however they obviously want to make some money out of this an therefore own the infrastructure.
- superpixel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3My one wish for 2007: that Google (who has been working pretty tight with Apple lately, DUH) will release a decent 2-way sync tool for iCal and Google Calendar. Come on gang, gimme the works-- a widget, quicksilver hooks, etc. Google is like 2 seconds away from being a GTD god. Just gimme inline private notes on emails, a way to tag and alarm follow up items (in email, doc, spreadsheet, etc.) and I'm yours, body and soul.
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3At the time of this posting this story was submitted 17 hours 28 minutes ago, yours was submitted 14 hours 11 minutes ago. This is the first story, yours is a dupe so check the time stamp before you spam.
- cf4010, on 11/03/2008, -0/+1I just got it myself, really nice product. fyi -- get $5 off with discount code GTMFRU
- oxigen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wow, perfect. this comes out, literally, the very day I buy a mac mini for my desktop, so I could sync up my laptop's ical with something more permanent. I guess the spanning sync will still be cool to have.
- esteban, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Does not matter if you have the application file (which you can still download from their site) it requires you to log in and this has been disabled until they have enough capacity again.
- zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1very useful when you are away from your home. Great find!
- bobbywan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1verry nice. this completes my sync needs!
plaxo=contact syncing
foldershare=file syncing
spanning sync=calendar syncing
done and DONE! - schack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'm not quite sure how this works? Am I buying software that actually do something or software that lets me access an app on their servers that do the actual sync-trick?? If the latter is the case, what happens with functionality, if they go out of business or like now where there server dies??
- noreturn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Oh, is that why those guys were giving me the stink eye?
- drycounty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Right on. I loved .Mac when it initially came out, and have had it since day one but lately have seen waaay too much spam. There is no way to control it or note it via the online webmail app. All I can say is that I will likely buy this and look for another similar solution to sync Address Book contacts. If spanning sync allowed for that, I'd be a lifetime customer immediately.
- benliong, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, as long as Google comes out with an isync plugin for Google Calendar, everything's good. It doesn't have anything to with .mac, and apple isn't really stopping Google for building a sync software into Mac OS X.
- mikepictor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have been looking for something like this for quite some time, I can't wait to try it out.
- pminze, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They need a version that works with Outlook
- KissTheRing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So did anyone out there get the file before they closed it, and would you be willing to host it somewhere?
- nascarthunder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Even if you were still able to download the file they are not allowing people to register with them to Sync their calenders. So getting the file now is still pointless. They did say though that they are going to try and release it again later today (Wednesday) once they have their servers set up to handle the huge increase in traffic.
- ezyeric, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I still plan on writing an application for Outlook to Google Calender. I thought it would be a simple thing, never commercial as this app is.
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7The ACTUAL story was dugg a long time ago. How about just digging that one instead of posting your blog spam?
