- scottrouse, on 10/05/2008, -0/+1I'm just not sure I buy the argument that companies purposefully plan for and rely on piracy to increase the user base of their software. It sounds a bit too "conspiracy theory" for me, I guess.
I agree that people doing lolcats and simple photo correction shouldn't pay for Photoshop. They don't need Photoshop for that. There are many cheap/free and much simpler programs out there for that sort of user. Photoshop Express is Adobe's new free, online answer to that, it seems? - RyomaNagare, on 10/04/2008, -0/+1Its very simple, this companies have for several years relied on piracy to make their software de-facto estandards, not only in profesional circles, but in most households as well.
Another good exmple is autodesk, and their ***** software thats a de-facto standard in architecture engineering and construction, despite the fact their software is buggy ugly, bloated and does not integrate well with windows, uses at least 5 runtime environments, and 2 cds installs. people learned it well in college, using free copies, now when working, you can only pay to keep using the same stupid software, because your mind is already bended beyond the ability to use anything else.
people doing lolcats and removing Red eyes should not pay for photoshop.
if for every 1000 kids doing macros on 4chan, 1 grows up to be a graphical designer and pays 699 for a copy of photoshop, its a better adoption rate adobe could hope with that price range and hypothetical no piracy scenario.
