- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Yes! I've always needed a 64-bit FTP program! ;)
- vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3SmartFTP is NOT FREE - has really annoying nag screens - and has a VERY restrictive license for who can actually use it for free and who can't (for those of us that actually care about be legal and stuff).
- Kucher, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2FileZilla indeed FTW
- PlayWithFire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yup, looks like Filezilla is winning here
that's what i use, it's simple, and fast, and the interface doesn't bother me
I've never used SmartFTP, but those tabs just looks too childish
to each his own i guess. And since someone said they can't connect to the xbox, i won't even try it
although, i didn't hear anyone mention netdrive, it just maps an FTP server on a drive letter, and works like charm. It's been submitted to digg twice, but never got popular. And, it connects to my XBOX - thunderpaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Not entirely sure how much better it will perform as a 64-bit app since FTP is all about I/O, which is handled by the OS.
And Nagware != Freeware. Last time I used the "free" SmartFTP, it kept nagging me to purchase if I'm not using it for personal use.
FileZilla is a stronger but less "pretty" app, IMHO. Use what you like, they're both good programs in their own right. - vonskippy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5FileZilla - it's better and it's FREE.
- cathode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2 do not digg. not in the least.
Smart FTP (Been using it for years - I PAID for it even.) was an awesome product, until they came out with an update that nagged even paid users to upgrade - for a fee - no more free upgrades (I don't have a problem with that, however.) So unfortunately this nag would not go away, should a paid user choose not to upgrade. (The upgrades are all SPAM, the program works fine without them. Who needs a bloody "Maintenance Plan"?)
The result? I had a paid-for program with a permanent nag.
I had to ask them for the old version, uninstall the new version, and re-install the old, nagless version that I had paid for and did not NAG me. Ther were kind enough to supply me with the older install file - which I have is anyone is interested.

Filezilla just works... no crashes no problme...I installed it for the first time today. Really nice to look at, really bad at doing the job it should... I mean the devs have't even learned how to setup drag and drop to work easily - hasbeen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I used to use LeechFTP, but unfortunately it hasn't been updated in decades. Same goes for UltraFXP.
So now I just use Filezilla. Never really liked SmartFTP. - altidude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm gonna give it a try. I like Filezilla but the queue timer in SmartFTP is a feature I can really use.
- idiggeverything, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2FileZilla baby!
- joel2600, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"Just curious, what advantages does this have over using my Explorer window to ftp?
ftp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@isp.net"
wow, just wow.
sorry, not trying to bash you... any client has an advantage over your method
you'll find that the downloads are controlled much better so you'll probably notice an increase in speed, also being able to queue files (either in your session, or having the application open multiple sessions to the same host to thread the downloads), also being able to resume your file download if it fails (if supported by the server, which it probably is) ... there are tons more, but these are probably the best reasons. just give it a try (if you ever need to download anything more than one small file) - cathode, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Here's the other link to their forums concerning their dirty nag problem:
http://www.smartftp.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=8109 - mgreenwald, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Filezilla FTW.

:) - altidude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Hey, my 30 day trial period lasted about 30 minutes before I got the nag screen. What's up with that?
- skeeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1New version looks great. Hopefully they got rid of those nag screens on startup.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I switched to FileZilla and never looked back
- reets, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1UltraFXP is the best IMO. Tried SmartFTP and it's interface it just bad.
- byrons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using SmartFTP for many years and v2.0 looks ***** and they've moved all my icons around. Sticking with v1.0, works for me.
- Wedgieman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yup I need a FTP client that uses a 64bit cpu effectively.. ITS A FTP CLIENT!! if it takes more then 10% of your CPU your box sucks!!!
- CoSMoSYS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1both of them are bitchy about filesize when uploading...however, I roll with Filezilla
- Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well if it doesn't connect to my Xbox still, back to CuteFTP I go....
- spyres, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I'll stick with filezilla as I can use it for free in even a corporate environment.
- beergeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Used to use this but they have never added SFTP support. Odd since users have been asking for this for years.
- Annorax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1SmartFTP is good, but the nag scren is inexcusable so I can't stand using it. Great marketing strategy guys, say something is free for home use but nag the home user. Pathetic.Plus, the forums aren't the friendliest place I've been.
Filezilla is at the least equal and for free. - TRUEPATRIOT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no digg smart ftp 2 didnt work with xbox -.-.
i had to go searching for older version.damn you smart ftp2. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2but alas, no SSH support, sticking with FileZilla
- domusvita, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Filezilla for me.
- alexander, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I also agree, Filezilla is the way to go!
- rhyno2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1...because if there's any application / protocol that can most benefit from the future of 64-bit processing...
it's *FTP*!
snicker - fujikofujio, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Filezilla here!!!!
- thoand, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Been using SmartFTP for a while.
+ For the GUI and
- For the annoying browser window that pops up every now and then - drewjoh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Filezilla does what I need it to do and fast.
- Strong71, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"the new software, which is dubbed a "technology preview" unsuitable for use on production systems"
- TheSnazzyOne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Filezilla people, Filezilla.
- greensky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use winscp.sf.net which supports scp and sftp. It works about the same as any other ftp app I've seen.
- GrahamStw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0+digg, if only because they've supplied an x64 build.
- dlichteman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have tried filezilla and smart FTP, and I like smartftp more
Dugg - semvhu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just curious, what advantages does this have over using my Explorer window to ftp?
ftp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@isp.net
Security? Ease of use? Encryption? - mdew, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1filezilla here too, ditched smartftp..that nag screen gets annoying after awhile, can't wait till the release of filezilla 3.0 ^_^
/nodigg - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SSL, I'm there. Look to an alternative to fliezilla....
- ftpguru, on 10/03/2009, -0/+0SmartFTP is the best. Way ahead of the competition.
- cathode, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1http://www.smartftp.com/forums/index.php?s=&showtopic=8109&view=findpost&p=25870
- Digisurfer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0SmartFTP used to be my fav a long time ago. Switched to Filezilla and have been using it instead for a long time now. Separate client/server software, free, open source, simple even. What's not to like?
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm glad the potential of 64-bit desktop processing has finally been unleashed in an FTP client.
- 83457, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Just curious, what advantages does this have over using my Explorer window to ftp?"
for me the fact that explorer craps out if I try to upload more than a couple dozen files is good enough reason for me to use something else - Victr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Filezilla = junk. SmartFTP = gold.
- shoehorn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Finally...they havent released a new version for quite some time...always loved SmartFTP, always will.
- mrgone, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Well, aside from LeechFTP this is about the best multithreaded ftp client I've used. The interface can get a little bit cluttered, especially on a 1024x768 screen, but it's not bad.
All I really want is an updated version of LeechFTP :( - alexannic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i've been using WS-ftp for over 60years now..and its the bestest!
