I think he was being sarcastic. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+27Reported as innacurate. Only for US and Canada to Mexico, UK and Japan.
- EmileVictor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15I wish skype would give these calls free all over the world -- make people listen to an ad before they dial, I guess....
- ajmuir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Come on Skype. Give the UK some love too.
- speedemonspecv, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Just ANOTHER reason for everybody to be using Skype and other VoIP services from now on.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Main Entry: 1in·ter·na·tion·al

So, in summary, it looks like you're wrong. Being able to call Japan and the UK for free does count as "international". - supervan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Not so handy if you live in the UK.
- gotamd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8But it's not even innaccurate. I'd call Japan and the UK "international". You just can't call any country for free.
- chrisbudden, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Instead of free int. calls for North America, why not free local calls for the UK or any other country for that matter.
- FrankHowley, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8International Prank Calls!
- aaronvegh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6This is a great offer; too bad Diggers are too pissy to appreciate something when it's given for free.
The point to make here is that the SkypeOut free service is fine as a promotional tool, but since we know they are testing the waters by offering this as a free service, I am looking forward to the time they decide whether or not they're going with this permanently. Then we can all become Skype users! - JorgeGT, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10@rsmithinfo
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcasm - MarkByers, on 10/12/2007, -10/+15"So what if this is slightly inaccurate?"
Another Bush supporter! - jacksim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Restricted to U.S. and Canadian users (and to UK, Mexico and Japan only). Bummer. From the headline I thought it was for everybody.
- pabster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Isn't that international?
Amazing people can bitch about FREE. - pairanoyd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Bad ass! My daughter and grandson are living near London and this will be a great deal for me to be able to call them for once!
- Aero1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7its a fridge joke. you call someone, ask them if their fridge is running, they say yes, then you say the punchline "then you better catch it". a country that produced benny hill should be immune to stupid jokes.
- waddling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Just get yourself a VPN to Canada or the US and you can call any where in the UK for free.
- gothsquirrel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6So those are still international calls and they are for a limited time. Just because he didn't describe every little detail it shouldn't be marked as inaccurate.
- Pseudo98, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10I'll save you the effort gawilcox... yes, we do have fridges in the UK but we don't need them due to the weather and our primitive culture, we still bury our food outside after we kill it with clubs until we want to eat it in our caves.
Stupid *****. - pabster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5You don't have to.
There are a plethora of phone adapters so you can use your landline phones with Skype. And lots of corded/cordless "Skype" phones as well. There's even a couple WiFi phones for Skype.
The days of having to sit at a PC are long gone. - dacheetah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Not innacurate, it calls only from USA/Canada (or anywhere that it thinks is USA/Canada) to UK, Mexico and Japan. Now while that isn't as impressive as "Free International from anywhere to anywhere else for a continuous period of several weeks", calling from USA to UK (or any other combination of the above) is a call from one nation to another nation, hence an international call, and it's free, and the period for each destination is a single weekend, which is a limited time, so the title should therefore be something along the lines of "Skype Announces Free International Calls for a limited time". (Granted it could have been more informative, but it was still accurate.)
- MarkByers, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8It's a sensationalist headline designed to get diggs, but missing very important information in the summary. Reported inaccurate.
- feenikz4180, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yay! I can call Japan and Mexico.... oh wait, i don't know anyone in Japan and Mexico...i don't live in the US either...
- sworphy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Typical its always for the US and Canada what about the rest of the World????
Wake up Skype! - ceralor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why do I see this like Mountain Dew's advertising and they tell you it's "limited time" so everybody hops on faster?
It'll be permanent later, I bet. - simba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wish this was possible for Africa too!!!
- kolobcreek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Please please use our service. We overpaid by 1.7 billion dollors for skype and now we are losing lots of customers because we have been offering crapy service ever since the company changed hands.
- dacheetah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It annoys me too, seeing as how most of the people I talk to live in Australia, but I'm digging it anyway. Maybe one day we'll get decent options with calling Australia, but not while Telstra is the biggest telco, charging ridiculous amounts for services that are substandard, and getting away with it because they can market it so well. (And because they own 95% of the infrastructure)
- JoeyDeacon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2That is just nit picking.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Niiiice. Time to call up Japan!
- BdaBeerman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There is a little doo-hicky that will let you use your regular phone with Skype. Do a search on Vosky. Its about $60 and works well. I've found you have to set up the telephone number in your PC first, then you can use your regular handset to call the number using Skype.
When you install Skype - just tell the software that you live in the USA to get the free benefits. - extremer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2jajah isnt free :/
- InternetUser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Love the idea of Skype/voip, but don't love the idea of taking my phone calls infront of a computer. Are there any decent voip handsets available yet? Last time I read up on it, they weren't so great..?
- cblalock, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Only on weekends. Only to Mexico, UK and Japan.
Still a Digg, but not quite as good a deal as the domestic skype out offer.
**weird. only one comment showed up a minute ago, now there are tons with the same info. sorry for the dupe. - InternetUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks for the info guys
- geminus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What I don't like anymore is that the quality of skype now sucks because everyone is using it's free calls. I still have $14.00 skype out credit and I can't use it because their service now sucks... blagh!
- ShosuroYuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes. More than one nation=international. Wow, so simple.
- ShosuroYuu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Read the definition of international. ^^
- killabob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1internetcalls is awesome. they give you like two hours of free trial and then you just have to make another username and pword. you don't even need a valid email.
- johnsto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2If they did that, it'd cost them loads.
I think the point of this is a little nice, friendly publicity without needing to raid the bank. - Ritalin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What about those of us with family in the US and we currently live over in Europe? Sigh... would be nice if it went the otherway too.
SkypeOut is still cheaper than regular international calls though, so it's harder to complain. :D - Spuby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"U.S. and Canadian Skype Users Can Make Free International SkypeOut Calls to the United Kingdom, Mexico and Japan for Three July Weekends "
Hold your horses boys, it's only for us/canadians. - shinsetsuguy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you have a bluetooh earbud and a computer with blue tooth, you can also use the bluetooth headset service, which works quite well. I've been 30 feet from my computer on a Skype call.
- nzl10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1something like this sounds nice:
http://www.dse.co.nz/cgi-bin/dse.storefront/44b38b1605d266fa273fc0a87f990745/Product/View/F8016
btw, it's about US$0.60 to one NZ$ - n.i.c.k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1For the UK www.internetcalls.com
- reveiled, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1RJ11>???? Hard to die
what about the ones with DSL are you planing on changin that? - ccanni1028, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Download Skype and tell it you are in the US.
- Ritalin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We actually have a US number for SkypeIn... didn't know if that would work. D'oh. :)
- vans12, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I am still gonna stick with voicestick, they have cheap calling year around unlike skype where you have to wait for a certain weekend. look at their prices and you decied http://www.voicestick.com/
