- bsonline, on 05/26/2009, -6/+23Lifehacker, when first we met I thought your name was just a stupid gratuitous use of the word "hacker".
Now, I just don't know what to say. You are a lighthouse in an internet of cracked.com and republicans. No, you aren't the only good site out there. But you have been there for me again and again. For that, I love you, man.
PS - I apologize for using cracked.com and republicans in the same sentence, it's just that both are fun to laugh at and neither should ever be allowed to vote. I hold cracked up there with engadget, right below gizmodo. - LANjackal, on 05/24/2009, -2/+18Voted for MP3Tag. Surprised no one mentioned WMP for its excellent metadata lookup functions. Oh well :)
- Electrosaurus, on 05/26/2009, -0/+8+1
Tag&Rename is still my preferred tool and has been for many years. Far more powerful than most of these. Easily worth the price and the learning-curve. - Yage2006, on 05/26/2009, -3/+10You lost me at price.
- junkstore, on 05/26/2009, -0/+6Two years ago maybe. Now, not so much. Lifehacker has been going downhill for a while, especially since Gina Trapani jumped ship. It still comes up with the occassional gem but I don't find it as useful or as focused as it used to be. The comments are heading towards YouTube standards by the day.
- ManOfTomorrow, on 05/26/2009, -1/+7Didn't see TagScanner ---great for batch file tags and albums!
http://www.xdlab.ru/en/ - nicodemus26, on 05/26/2009, -0/+6Agreed. I have been using it for years, so I was surprised when it was not on the list.
http://www.softpointer.com/tr.htm - motang, on 05/26/2009, -0/+4EasyTAG for me. http://easytag.sourceforge.net/
- camintmier, on 05/26/2009, -2/+6I'm surprised The Godfather wasn't on there.
http://users.otenet.gr/~dtou20/ - bsonline, on 05/26/2009, -0/+4Like I would read the comments on an internet site...
..oh, yeah.
I still find them quite useful, even if it is just for the archive of useful software. - PizzaCat, on 05/26/2009, -0/+3I have been using different versions of Helium Music Manager for as long as i can remember
http://www.helium-music-manager.com/
works for me. - Pushkin, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2Unicode is a must for me. Which of the mentioned taggers handle unicode - and can rename messed up filenames/tags due to missing Unicode support of the importer?
- pazhood, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2I use Rapid Evolution by Mixshare. I'm not sure it's the best, but it is free and is quite accurate at detecting (and tagging) both BPM and Key.
- PMWSpender, on 05/26/2009, -1/+3It is the best followed by MP3Tag.
- HMMaster, on 05/26/2009, -1/+3Yup... the metadata lookup in WMP is actually pretty good especially where you can find the album art using it. But sometime it just cant overwrite the existing tag. :/
- Hermmunster, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2Just tried it. Really a lot of issues with it. Technically they are doing good, but in execution things are flawed. Presentation lacks a whole lot also.
And, it ain't so easy, even for someone that's written an mp3 tagging program from 10 years ago. - GeorgeClayton, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2I really like Media Monkey - especially the ability to create half-star ratings (ex: 3.5 stars).
- rpgmakr, on 05/26/2009, -1/+3There's nothing better than EasyTAG on Linux. It supports file renaming based on what the tag says (a very useful feature) on top of many others. I have to say that it's not very intuitive at first glance but is as good as it gets with that many features.
- theonewho, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2I use kid3 myself. Works in Linux and Windows (and maybe mac). I can import track info from gnudb, tracktype, discogs, and musicbrainz. You can make it replace characters (like underscore to space for example). Those are my favorite features but it does more. Everything I need at least.
- MikeEx, on 05/26/2009, -0/+2Thumbs up for WMP. It's actually useful for something.
- ampdj89, on 06/02/2009, -0/+1I use Audioshell, it integrates right inside the ms explorer, just a right click to the song, properties and edit. Though it may not be fully featured like others.
- spaceaudi0, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1good post.
- yitgg, on 05/26/2009, -1/+2There is aso PHP-Libraries for Tags
- inactive, on 05/26/2009, -4/+5Make fun of Republicans, but don't forget to include the Democrats that are also ***** us over.
- Recoil, on 05/28/2009, -0/+1This was really helpful, MP3Tag seems to be one of the best so I went with that one.
- HiVoltRock, on 05/26/2009, -1/+2Little lacking in Linux love. EasyTag is a nice, powerful program for those in a Linux environment and it's in the repositories of several distributions (including Ubuntu). There's a windows version as well.
http://easytag.sourceforge.net/ - adriaaan, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Me too, amazing tool, has saved me more than twice.
- ThirdPrize, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1What is the best one for adding BPM info?
- Y0tsuya, on 05/26/2009, -1/+2I stick with ID3-TagIT for its ability to properly deal with not only Unicode tags but also Unicode filenames.
- teethandeyes, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Virtual DJ, is very accurate with it's BPM tags, and virtually flawless for automatic beat matching.
- pagno, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Always been my favorite.
- ldavid, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1Yes I agree. I am another avid user of Tag&Rename...love that app..and iTunes also likes it...all my iTunes is all nice and pretty woohoo to prettiness :/
:D - Hermmunster, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1I found Amarok to be one of the best tagging programs for mass tagging. I like the tagging in that area alone. You can populate the playlist with what you consider to be say "R&B" and then tag all the songs with that genre in two clicks, as long as they are .mp3 files.
I've used it to correct many a tag/album/artist name to make them more consistent. - Hermmunster, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1These guys are a perfect example of a company that shouldn't be writing software. Their Linux version is so utterly laughable.
- Hermmunster, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1What he left out was:
light your workspace but with a nuclear reactor made from biodegradeable waste found in every day homes with a step by step DIY. - dkla, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Jaikoz is quite nice (and powerful), and cross-platform too (Mac/Win/Linux).
http://www.jthink.net/jaikoz/ - paulsmith288, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1+1
Good file system manipulation and/or reading data from filesystem - webcrumb, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Was going to post a link to TGF if one wasn't here. It's easily the best tagger/renamer for Windows that I've used.
- modifiedbears, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Mp3tag runs great in Linux using WINE.
- maskedform, on 05/27/2009, -0/+1Thanks for the recommendation. It looks like it has the power to replace MediaMonkey.
- Hermmunster, on 05/26/2009, -1/+2The problem with windows media player has always been the EULA which permits them to look into what you are doing and report that back to Microsoft. This is a long long standing criticism of them. In fact, with non-Microsoft products you just use the product without worrying about that sort of thing. With Microsoft you must agree to be Bill Gates water boy at some point in your life.
There's no need for WMP, so just find a better alternative. There are plenty. - Y0tsuya, on 05/26/2009, -0/+1Like I said, Try ID3-TagIT. It's on the list.
- IDcool, on 05/26/2009, -0/+0TagScanner i think its the best tag tool between all mentioned tools
- qbthemc, on 05/26/2009, -1/+1ORLY.
- robbob, on 05/27/2009, -1/+1Absolutely.
This is the main app I still use for the PC, otherwise I'd be Mac only - nepidae, on 05/26/2009, -1/+1is this 1998?
