- splinter09, on 09/04/2008, -1/+14Google is trying to conquer the world i think ........... search , browsers, what next............... ?
- TheTommyD, on 09/04/2008, -1/+12I downloaded Chrome on the weekend and it works great!
My Internet is capped at 350k and everything loads much faster than IE.
I've also been using Gmail for a long time now I must say say I do like Google. - fiverock2, on 09/05/2008, -0/+10That's actually a feature!
- ghawg, on 09/05/2008, -4/+14Tabs are cool and it's fast. But without Adblock Plus, I just can't bear it. Sorry.
- itsfunny, on 09/05/2008, -0/+9"As a result, Chrome is quick -- faster than Internet Explorer, although not quite as fast as Firefox or Safari."
Last time I installed Safari for Windows it crawled, and Chrome beats Firefox on speed hands down. - Namli, on 09/04/2008, -3/+12I've always knows it was just a matter of time before Google would come up with their own "browser".
And that's a serious article there. Nicely written. - Anonymous3, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8http://www.abrahamjoffe.com.au/ben/canvascape/text ...
It actually runs smoothly now, using chrome... - ha3er0, on 06/16/2009, -1/+8Wasn't there a rumor about Google OS before; they dismissed it. The same way they dismissed Google browser last year, when they were still working on it. I think, there is a very good possibility of a Google desktop OS soon (not embedded like Android).
- jerrycan, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6My iGoogle home is tailored the way I want it. All my work email is forwarded to my Gmail account. Maps.g... is one of the best tools ever. I've been moving my commmonly used office docs to GoogleOffice. I coordinate my schedule google calendar and with my wife's google calendar for personal and family events. I can't imagine living without these tools now. Now I use chrome.
- Zippo, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Keep up the good work, Google.
- Zaggynl, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5I'm glad you don't wand me, I mean, it has a 150 DPS D:
- jamauss, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4With as much information about what's on the internet as Google manages, it's kind of a no-brainer for them to make a browser. It's practically been the only thing about the internet that Google had *not* done yet. What's left for them now? Make web server platform software?
- MforMike, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4im tired of every website telling me to upgrade my browser...
THERE IS NO UPGRADE - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4Artificial Intelligence or at least partial AI involved in searching
An operating system
Gaming network or partnership with Steam
Massive file hosting service
File back-up or virtual drive type setup
Wireless Network Service
Internet Service Provider - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4I'm hoping for ISP.
Google would give me a good deal instead of paying $130 a month for 60GB. (Granted, it is the fastest internet in Australia...but still) - PsychoDeli, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4The fact that Google keeps everything in beta stage might have some significance in the future. Once we all use it and love it they can upgrade to version 1.0 and start charging us for it.
So, we are using the browser, and the email, and the docs...and suddenly we can't anymore unless we pay....I'm probably wrong...just a thought :) - rodrigo74, on 09/05/2008, -0/+4The web is yours?
- darthjure, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3Need to fix list:
1. When you right-click and open a link in a new tab, Google doesn't switch to that tab. You have to click the new tab. It needs to automatically switch to it.
2. Need to be able to erase individual items from history. They force you to erase an entire day if you want to erase anything.
3. They need to integrate the browser with Google Bookmarks. I can get the Google Toolbar for IE and save/retrieve Google Bookmarks online, but the Google Browser doesn't integrate with the online Google Bookmarks at all. It only has local bookmarks.
4. I like their default browser homepage, but we need to be able to customize it some. - thakur01, on 04/27/2009, -0/+3I like it..
- br0wersauce, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3The point is that it does NOT have a bunch of unnecessary of bells and whistles. This is Google's creed and has been since the company started. Google's approach to usability and design has always been minimalist, and their focus has always been on getting information to the user as quickly, efficiently, accurately, and cleanly as possible. To say that it doesn't appear to have many features is to confirm that Google's goal with Chrome was at least partially achieved. It has the features you need, some great new ones and existing ones you want, and none of the things you don't need.
What Chrome lacks in flowery UI elements, it makes up for 'under the hood.' Just use the browser exclusively for a day, then switch back to your browser of choice the next. If it doesn't impress you, then it's not for you. Simple as that. - sirber, on 09/05/2008, -0/+3GTFO

- WiskyDrinker, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2Nah.. The browser is the OS! That's the whole point...
- stinkipete, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2It's still only in beta, so perhaps the finished product will be more full-featured.
It's the multi-process and security side of things that have got people so excited I think. That and the fact that it's google. Obviously.
lol. - nafnosseb, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2I did the same thing....
to you. - notwizt, on 09/05/2008, -0/+2...what the hell are you talking about?

That's the dumbest ***** I've ever heard. You obviously know nothing about the technical specifications so please just stick to being a ***** fanboy. - kahrn, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Google already have an operating system developed in house based upon Ubuntu.
- Buttercup, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1Artificial Intelligence or at least partial AI involved in searching: check.

Wireless Network Service: check. (iirc, not anymore though.)

- yingjai, on 09/05/2008, -1/+2runs smooth on my comp with ff3.
- Pundan, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Lava lamps, of course.
- GoKings, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1It's been pretty good so far, and it's really fast. Need to integrate some search options, having no stumble-upon sucks, and the damn pages scroll incredibly fast... Also, it has major problems with Facebook. Gonna wait a month or so until some things are worked out.
- Llanowar, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1That would be quite the flaw in their "do no evil" concept.
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Yea, but isn't that just a regular ubuntu install with a google wallpaper?
- TnTBass, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Sweet Jebus, thats horrible.
I really have only been using Chrome for GMail and the Odd stint at Facebook and Digg. The ads on Digg drive me nuts, so I tend to flip back to Firefox when browsing any other site. - denser, on 09/08/2008, -0/+1The end is now within sight
- DonutGuy, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1Potential for everyone to put :% in their address bars.
- TheTommyD, on 09/06/2008, -0/+1Sorry Bad if I missed your time-line by a day. I wasn't worried about the hour or minute I started using it.
I stated what I liked about Google Dude. - 15thPD, on 09/05/2008, -0/+1I'd love to give it a shot, but I'm not opening a new tab every time I want to see my favorites list. The lack of a drop-down favorites list is a deal breaker for me.
- TheWindBlows, on 09/05/2008, -1/+1Fastest Internet Browser I've used yet so far is Midori ( GTK+ Linux ). It stability has been getting quite good recently.
It runs about 2 times as fast on javascript than firefox 3.1 with jit enabled and about 4-6 times as fast on CSS. HTML rendering I am not sure though thats just a fraction and I'm sure it fast considering Midori is made using the GTK+ Webkit port.
So Midori is obviously faster than Google Chrome considering Chrome is about the same speed as Firefox 3.1 with jit enabled.
Of course Midori is just made to be a lightweight and fast browser so its not exactly feature rich though plans for extension support seem to there. - rosoft2001, on 09/09/2008, -0/+0While using Chrome I found that a lot of sites sites don't work, due to missing plugins for the new platform. Sometimes just quitting the site is not an option so I created an easy way to open the page in your "old" browser. Just drag and drop the URL from the Chrome URL bar into the Mirror form and you can continue your Chrome browsing.
Download: http://www.zonator.com/mirror.zip - KyleDantarin, on 09/05/2008, -1/+1this article sucks sorry- there have been at least 6 more informative articles in the past couple of days, albeit with a less mainstream audience than the nytimes. Nonetheless, reading this was like being fed soggy bread, buried.
- DickyT83, on 09/05/2008, -4/+4I wish it had the potential to scroll up.
