- EXreaction, on 10/12/2007, -6/+87This scares me:
"Enter your email address to receive converted files:" - diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -9/+85ORDER NOW AND RECEIVE THE 'POTATO WEDGE-O-MATIC' AS A BONUS GIFT IF YOU PROMISE TO TELL A FRIEND!
AVAILABLE IN 49 STATES! SORRY TENNESSEE! - pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+46And all recompressed 12 times, so they'll look really nice too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+49Yawn, its called Firefox and a wide array of plugins, which are also COMPLETELY FREE!!!!
- Samstar, on 10/12/2007, -2/+40i read pac-man instead of pc/mac dissapointment
- uhdean, on 10/12/2007, -4/+30Or try this. It is also free and does a great job. http://vixy.net/
- Sautechef, on 10/12/2007, -13/+37Great, now someone can download and save a video only to repost it back onto Youtube so we end up with 10 videos of the exact same thing.
- diggfinity, on 10/12/2007, -20/+42Dude, seriously. Stop spamming with your software.
- Dog_Paddle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+21Damn, I live in Tennessee =(
- npsken, on 10/12/2007, -11/+26That already happens...
- summitr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I don't know if this guy is spamming for zamzar, but I've used the service before and it works great. Only thing I received in my email was the converted file.
- riccohasdug, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I suppose you could simply give him a throwaway email address, but why go through all of that? Why doesn't it simply convert the file and give you a download link at the site (like KeepVid and all the others)?
- colinm, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10I can recommend using (open source) ffmpeg to convert audio and video files. The huge list of supported formats is here: http://ffmpeg.mplayerhq.hu/ffmpeg-doc.html#SEC21 There are also loads of options for tweaking the encoding settings too...
You don't have to wait and use your bandwidth uploading and downloading files and you don't have to give away your email address.
Windows binaries: http://ffdshow.faireal.net/mirror/ffmpeg/ - Nickerz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7how the ***** does this have all those digs? The whole thread is calling this guy an asshat, yet it's gonna be frontpage on the right if this keeps going.
- RoflMyWaffle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7this is straight crap. Vixy has been around longer and doesn't ask you for an email or anything. It's also much quicker

digg the BETTER one up - ropers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5(Honestly, I cannot comprehend how they would digg you down.)
Does ffmpeg support rtmp ?
Ever since watching it @ atomfilms, I've had this strong urge to download this film:
rtmp://fms2.atom.speedera.net/ondemand/fms2.atom/haha_america_700.flv
But the only app that appears to support rtmp downloading is a commercial Windows app (http://www.applian.com/replay-media-catcher/) and I'm on Ubuntu.
(I also had a hunch that red5 (http://osflash.org/red5) could somehow do this, but I couldn't get it to do what I wanted.) - addiggt, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4@ uhdean
Thanks. Works very well and it's definitely better than Zamzar. - howzitgoin88, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6dodgeit.com
- JesterFPS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This is better: http://vixy.net/
- InfamousAtheist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cripple Fight!
- Metal_Guru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Because keepvid doesn't convert anything, only gives your the link to the hidden FLV file.
But zamzar has to upload it to their servers, then convert it which takes time. So they use the email notification as means of letting you know when the file is ready. When I tried it, it took several hours... so it's good to be able to close the page and not lose your conversion.
I prefer vixy.net - CardinalFang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I just use the VideoDownloader Firefox extension, then run the .flv through SUPER ©
- Mtap, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I agree. I personally use Ook? Video Ook! for all my youtube/gv/ any other site downloads. Yeah it has a weird name, but it works flawlessly and, after its done, I use the Free Riva Flv encoder to switch it over to any file I want.
- Stirk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks for sharing, looks good!
- grendel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2real easy...that 5 steps is certainly easier than the 1 step on vixy.
I got 6 pennies for your 1 dollar.
Cause 6 is better than 1. - gameforge, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Heh, when you read that stuff about people "gaming" Digg, have you ever thought "gee, where was I when all that was going on?"
A lot of submissions would go into the thousands if they hit the front page, just because some people digg stuff on the front page for later reading, while others digg solely based on the headline, etc.
But this stuff usually doesn't go to the front page because the real Digg lovers who read and participate in raw upcoming stories bury garbage like this before it gets the chance. If too many people choose to bury it before it gets to so many diggs, it never makes the front page. To game the system, you get and/or pay a swarm of people to come in and Digg the story.
It's 8:50PM where I live. At 9:30AM tomorrow morning, this will STILL be in the "Top 10" list. It was made popular in 5 hours. It seems reasonable that the system gets "suspicious" if too many people jump right into the "Upcoming Stories" section and Digg a particular story on page 25 immediately after creating an account... but if you own a domain, you can create e-mail addresses & new Digg accounts all day - over time (5 hrs?), you can "pretend" to browse and read and post a few fake comments, Digg some stuff, "including that one on page 25 ahem" as each fake user and it won't look too suspicious. Maybe the admins will see it later and ban the accounts, but it still made the front page and got the required no. of hits to their site for their "marketing strategy".
After 10 hours, it has 1,671 Diggs, but only 60 comments.
Gamed? Who knows. Suspicious? Well, yes, very. - handheldchimp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3...it sucks, i can't convert a file from youtube to avi apparently...there is an internal problem where it doesn't agree with their servers? Wtf does that mean?
- therrol, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this is more than helpful. wooo.
- aliguana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Video Downloader for Firefox, Super for Windows (I'm sure there are Mac/Linux equivalents). Fast. Convenient. Any format you like.
Just wish there was a way to save out cached Quicktime files (the streaming type) - tr0n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Nice link. Try clicking on it--I dare you.
- gilsmethod, on 02/04/2008, -0/+1here's an article with an updated list of websites and utilities to accomplish this.
http://www.gilsmethod.com/htdownloadvideosfromthei ... - JDParshall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Thank you, it works great!
- diggboy101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Try media-convert.com, no personal info, faster, and it supports more formats.
- nonokiaboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1How about saving Myspace music off the flash players?
- alittletoohigh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you locate any file in temporary internet files for IE, or Firefox's cache then its just a matter of moving the file to a more accessable folder for future watching. The only negative is that you have to stream the whole video first before saving.
Cache viewer for FF

Temporary internet files (or use win app "disk clean-up" to locate)
C:Documents and SettingsdefaultLocal SettingsTemporary Internet Files - dvdipodbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1A shareware for convert YouTube FLV file to other format(avi, mpeg, wmv, mp4, mp3, etc)
It works is great. you can download this software from here
http://www.dvd-ipod.biz/flv_to_video_converter.html
or
http://www.dvdtozuneconverter.net/flv-to-video-converter.htm
http://www.dvdtozuneconverter.net/flv-converter.htm - redwallhp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It just emails you the link, not the actual file.
- barnis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I personally think this is a great service and don't give a F#@$ if it's SPAM. I've used it for my wife when she was at work, received a TIF email and couldn't view it with any of the aps on her restricted work laptop as well as at various work and school computers when installing an ap (even if it's just a stand-alone eve) seems like wasted effort.
I've also sent students to this site who want to show a video in class and haven't a clue about FFMPEG, VLV, FLV player or any other "better" solution.
The reason this is on the front page is because it's useful...stop being such a bunch of greater-than-thou techie pricks...some people are different guys. - brightmarc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1By the way, I use http://www.savetube.com to save any youtube video
- ououcool, on 07/12/2008, -0/+0Here is another great site

- Trevino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2How about a link to these fabled plugins, I am too lazy to search.
- dmitriyvoz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Great, now someone can download and save a video only to repost it back onto Youtube so we end up with 10 videos of the exact same thing. The same theme on Russian sites: http://pivo.in.ua http://www.alcogol.kiev.ua
- cuzican, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1cease and desist guaranteed..
- luwen, on 03/05/2009, -0/+0cool!
You can download youtube via Safari, Firefox, vixy.net and so on.
I prefer this free video downloader for Mac, the best one that works stably.

- idiggit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I use this one which works greath (videodownloader): http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php
