- tuumi, on 02/23/2008, -3/+60can't wait to check out the free music and find new bands the might be of interest to me. Then I could go to their shows and spend money on them.
- austinnowlin, on 02/23/2008, -2/+53BitTorrent is being used more and more as a legitimate form of distribution.
- teiren474, on 02/23/2008, -4/+42downloading just is'nt as fun when I know its a legal download
- mmeiser, on 02/23/2008, -1/+20the vangaurd of the music world is finally catching up to what the grateful dead were doing 20+ years ago through the bootleg and sneaker network
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -0/+16Seeders: where the hell are you?
- ReRunx5, on 02/23/2008, -0/+14I download SXSW torrents every year and I find new artists to check out and enjoy.
- theysayjump, on 02/23/2008, -1/+14Today's your lucky day then, huh?
- markperia, on 02/23/2008, -0/+12most acts in SXSW have no ties with the RIAA.
- fkr3, on 02/23/2008, -2/+11There isn't even a weekly story of a legitimate use emerging..... I guess it's being used as a legitimate form of distribution more and more by comparison to it's previous usage as a legitimate form of distribution, but it's still epically dwarfed by piracy.
- nooreazy, on 02/23/2008, -0/+8RIAA Safe?
- ThreeDee912, on 02/23/2008, -0/+8Stop spamming your articles.
- markwilcox, on 02/23/2008, -3/+11Because then your favourite artists will have no money to make more music for you to enjoy
- FTLJohnson, on 02/23/2008, -1/+8Wouldn't it be the EXACT opposite?
Considering that real artists are not in it for the money... Wouldn't piracy spread good music enough for them to gain a larger following (and with that more money because the percentage of paying customers would remain the same as the audience got larger) and thusly enough money to (at the very least) subsist.... while the ***** musicians that do prefab pop would die off becuase the record companies would no longer find it to be profitable to churn out crap anymore?
Personally.. I support both... download some... buy a few albums from your favorite artists... Typically for the GOOD musicians, the actual money for them is in the t-shirts and concerts anyway. Also, when I buy music - I tend to buy the CDs DIRECTLY from the artists at the show anyway. (and get them to sign it) - HallwayGiant, on 02/23/2008, -0/+6I finished in about 3 1/2 hours and am almost at a 3.0 ratio...chill.
- kevinmotel, on 02/23/2008, -0/+6BIG WORDS!
- billbillbilly, on 02/23/2008, -0/+6there have been torrents since 2005
- Brick86, on 02/23/2008, -7/+13Direct link... http://hewgill.com/torrent/SXSW_2008_Showcasing_Ar ...
- johnnyrotten, on 02/23/2008, -1/+6I've downloaded these every year, and there's a lot of great stuff in these collections. Of course, if all you like is corporate crap music, you might not like this, but you can't please everyone.
- HallwayGiant, on 02/23/2008, -0/+5Most of them are at 160kbps or higher, actually.
- androo002345, on 02/23/2008, -0/+5With this showing up on digg I'm sure more people will be seeders soon enough.
- Darth_tater, on 02/23/2008, -0/+5there aren't many now, but i plan to seed this torrent well past 3.000 and i encourage everybody to spare as much bandwith as possible
- shadownetwork, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4Is this music live recordings or original studio album songs? This isn't really made clear and I would think people would want to know what they are getting before they download the entire x amount of gigabytes.
- inactive, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4FiOS FTW!
I wonder if you're being dugg down by diggers who are bitter that they don't have FiOS... :) - ThreeDee912, on 02/23/2008, -2/+6There was a torrent made for last year's collection? So I wasted my time downloading all the songs manually last year? -_-
- misterhektik, on 02/23/2008, -4/+8Digging this just because the torrent has The Pillows. \m/
- coit, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4If you pop it open in Transmisssion, you can see the track list...
- HallwayGiant, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4Haven't listened to all of it (it's about 48 hours worth of music after all), but from what I've listened to it's been almost completely album material.
- geoffeg, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4I wonder why SxSW decided to not host their own torrents of all the mp3s this year. SxSW is an amazing event, lots of fun but exhausting at the same time.
- willfe, on 02/23/2008, -1/+5Welp, you were wrong.
- bdbr, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4If you're new to these, prepare to hear a LOT of music you're not going to like. Some of it will be fantastic, but 764 songs from 764 bands results in a lot of duds. I've been getting these for years now, and always manage to find a few I like.
- aussieNickuss, on 02/23/2008, -0/+4The more legitimate uses there are for bittorrent.....the less likely the protocol will be throttled by ISP's in the future. Here's hoping anyway.
- crzdmn, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3i'll seed once i have it but currently that will be in about 3 weeks.
- shreveyboy, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3Also, the concerts at SXSW are mostly free.
- flarn2006, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3no. nothing. is. better. than. boobs.
- MadEnvoy, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3Makes it easier for me to bury it.
- lenninct, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3*envy*
- devobergso, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3Estimated time remaining: 3 weeks 6 days... this is going to be a while
- 80hd, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3ok who's got a decent "Best of SXSW 2008" list going?
I don't have 1.9 days worth of patience to sift through bands like Dark Meat or Xno Barbequex. - chrisbarr, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3I'm only downloading at 3-6KB/s right now with 29 peers - not as many as I would have thought for being on digg. Maybe it will pick up by morning when more people start checking previous pages.
- mattcampbell, on 02/23/2008, -0/+3Seed to Peer ratio is ridiculous. This is going to take awhile...
- coit, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2It is not just "new" music. Many established artists play as well. These are just representative songs...
- stalefries, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Seed it to 3.14!
- reddcell, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Amazing torrents here. I've been all the years listed. Leeching now! I'm about to take a big chunk out of our DC's bandwidth...
- ajs05, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2If you want to know what's included, spend some time on http://2008.sxsw.com/ -- lots of info on the bands
including links to their sites/myspace pages. - absolutzombie, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2the plastic constellations ftw.
- mrblaack, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2track list?
- dizilbdog, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2probably I'm Sorry I wish everyone had Fios, but only some area's, but I'll Seed I'll Seed best I can do lol....
- macslut, on 02/23/2008, -2/+4Could be. I just tried a handful that were all 128kbps. IIRC, previous years were all 128kbps. Funny thing is, most of the CDs I bought last year were at SXSW, direct from the bands. I'd buy more if the quality of the sample songs was better. It's too hard to listen to that much music at such low quality.
- petethepanda, on 02/23/2008, -0/+2Can't wait to see the pillows at SXSW. It'll be nice to see them at a venue without ten thousand freaking anime nerds with Naruto headbangs around.
- PlasmaWhore, on 02/23/2008, -0/+1Robots in Disguise are playing what I think is their first US show at SXSW. Sucks that I'm poor and live on the West Coast. I have been wanting to see them for years.
