- gwjc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0good digg
- r00t3d0ut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0At my local LUG meeting, someone set up an Asterisk setup using two laptops and some SIP phones. It worked like a charm!
- antiTRACE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Misleading title (should be on a Virtual Machine) but I dugg it, good write up.
- helfire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Guess you should read not just the title next time "..run Asterisk on a virtual machine under Windows"
- hellsyeah, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://www.voip-info.org/wiki-Asterisk
this says that it runs on windows as well as OSX, however when I go to the homepage, I can't find a windows version... - VeryFunny, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0haha
- z0rz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Maybe you should click Windows and it'll show you were to download them...
- antiTRACE, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Guess you should read not just the title next time "..run Asterisk on a virtual machine under Windows"
Since it's running on a Virtual machine, the fact that the host machine is Windows is now illrevelant. - antiTRACE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1^^ irrelevant (For the spelling Nazis)
- Matt2k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't care so much about Asterisk, but the virtual machine emulators and creation tools are worth a digg!
- antiTRACE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Hey delta407, is this true (timing req) for the new 1.2 version? I thought they got rid of that requirement? Haven't had the time/balls to upgrade yet or to test on a VM for that matter.
- mjog, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Meh.
Just. Run. Linux. - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0But, the digg is ABOUT running on a VM in Windows - Linux is what the PRODUCTION environment is supposed to be running on.
The purpose (and literal words of the article) of the digg was to let us know that you could test some scripts in Asterisk@Home using this method AND also to the point so that you DONT have to have 2 machines. If Linux is used with Asterisk, you HAVE to run Asterisk with 2 (TWO) machines - articel and installation instructions say so in the manual.
Why am I telling you this IF you READ the article AT ALL? - hellsyeah, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0doh!
- kerryg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1My article does not suggest running it in a production environment like this, but for testing and development it is perfectly acceptable. The Asterisk 1.2 kernal does not need a hardware timing source anymore. I most certainly appreciate all the diggs and welcome any and all feedback.
Kerry - VOIPSpeak.net - battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0And I thought that I was the king of last words on a subject!
- battybattybatt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I guess you call that the power of digg.
Damn. - LoaTao, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ummmm... Why? Asterisk under Linux is stable and fast. Asterisk running in a VM under Windows? I wouldn't want to bet my business on it.
- kerryg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you read the article, I do not say "this is stable enough for business", what the article was about was how to get it to run so you can EXPERIMENT and TEST SCRIPTS. I would never recommend betting your business on an app running on an os inside of a virtual machine under windows. However, a lot of people want to experiement, design their dial plans, test different things, trying peering, test trunking, do demos, and generally geek out and that is what this article was about.
- pdavis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This just in, Virtual Machines under windows will run things! Maybe I should put an article together on running VI on a virtual machine under Windows!
- devboy00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Lotsa slashdotty comments here. I found the tutorial to be very succinct and to the point. One thing that I discovered was that I can't use a zap-tel card under it because the VM won't access the hardware. Looking back ... duh. Or perhaps I'm just stupid
