- sitesoft, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Doesn't this program just take advantage of the analog hole? I have to play the whole song thru my sound card...I can do that with any old sound recording program.

- JaiHaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ karma killernz
just because you want to be able to use your legally purchased music as you please doesn't mean you want to steal it in the first place. just because i want to support an artist by buying their work doesn't mean i need the music nazis telling me what i can do with it. - jiub, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'm pretty sure this is the analog whole as sitesoft mentioned. JHymn is much better for iTunes, it actually strips the DRM with no quality loss at all if you leave it as an aac.
- Jerky1312, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I believe TuneBite does the same thing, but 4x faster than playing it in real time. It actually removes any DRM, while fast forwarding through the audio files. As mentioned already, best thing is to have the DRM disabled, instead of re-recording the analog sound or simply stop purchasing music that has DRM. www.allofmp3.com (digital music without drm) www.tunebite.com (rid drm 4x faster than analog recording)
- Gvaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1let me just say that for all those people who said "encode as wav, then encode as mp3 to get around it" you're wrong.
that actually looses the bitrate, it doesnt keep it the same. - ThinkBox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1stupid - i mean, it doesnt rip the DRM it just plays it and lets your record the audio at the same time - and it si PC only - this is really spam there are free apps that do this too!!
reported as spam - fuxxtor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Err, doesn't JHymn do this by actually re-ordering the DRM?
- sonic767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Blog spam. This is a link to a blog, not to an actual destination. The software that the heading speaks of is at http://www.musicstacker.com/

audacity takes less than 10k of memory and uses less than 10% of my amd athlon xp 3200+. if you want aac, try finding an aac encoder dll and use that instead of mp3. - JaiHaru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@karmakillernzrnrn I absolutely agree. I'm all about "if you don't like the heat get out of the kitchen. i myself would not attempt to remove drm after agreeing to the TOU, and again I'm not saying it's right. BUT... i would argue that it is better, for the artist and the industry, that if people would otherwise download music illegally for free based solely on the fact that they dislike the DRM, prevent that.rnrn@ niggerbobrnrn Here's a bit of TRUTH.... hiding behind the anonymity of the internet and making inane comments that add nothing to a discussion makes you a n idiot.
- inactive, on 09/26/2008, -0/+1re-encoding music to a lossy format after burning it to a CD from a lossy format is a BAD idea.
- bryan8m, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Shareware = No Digg.
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who cares weather you break the DRM and are breaking the agreement...
A person has the right to choose what he/she wants to do with their service. Do people tell you what you can/can't download on your subscribed internet connection??? NO! You subscribe for the access... Some people DON'T WANT TO BOTHER looking for songs on the internet (like all of the knowledgable pirates), so they subscribe to Napster... It really isn't as complicated or as controversial as some are making it out to be...
@weesee: I was about to mention winamp if you hadn't... effortless output and it's FAST! no butchered quality, you get what you heard with the DRM-enabled track =D

- wastern, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i don't think JHymn is going to see an update anytime soon since they guy that made it got picked up to work for an american country and moved to CA
- karmakillernz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Jaiharu,
I understand your point, but when you buy music from places such as iTunes Music Store or MSN Music, you agree to their terms of usage. Therefore, by bypassing the DRM, not only are you going against the DMCA (if in the USA), you're also breaking the contract and forfeiting your right to play the music. Double-whammy!
I agree that people should buy their music, although I'm certainly not a fan of the RIAA and associated companies; however, I don't fool myself into thinking it's right to break DRM just because you want more freedom. If you don't want restrictions - don't buy that content. - micromause, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Shareware sucks =P
- ez4u2sai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0References to shareware products certainly should be automatically considered lame. There are many interesting innovations out there worth reporting on, and just because the author would like a little remunerations is no reason to slam them. However, this feels like a plug for a tool that doesn't do anything particularly new or exciting - there are many tools capable of re-encoding analog audio to get around DRM - many of which are both cheaper and, by the sound of it, less bloated.
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Audiohijack (by Rogue Amoeba) does the same. It records any sound output from any application you want.
http://www.rogueamoeba.com/ - aitikin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Unfortunately JHymn doesn't work with iTunes 6 yet so those of us who upgraded and bought something are SOL.
- junkfood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0allofmp3.com
- HARMan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I was pissed off when JHymm no longer worked also. For some reason, all my downloads are not burnable to CD. Most I haven't even burnt one "legal" copy yet. I've been unable to even reach Apple on this problem.
But I just found this on the web. Has anyone taken a look at HotRecorder for Media? I just ponied-up the $20 for the license. It appears to electronically convert Itunes or Yahoo Media protected content into standard MP3 or WAV format. The conversion allows any type of bit rate also. No cables or a-to-d conversion.

I'll be doing some coverting tonight! Stay tuned. Get your copy before it gets outlawed! - shiftless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Re-encode the iTunes MP3 to a higher bitrate.
- JaiHaru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1wow....not sure what happened that sentence should be. "...if this helps people avoid just "stealing" i'm all for it. @ niggerbebob Here's......"
- MediaShipper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0All things considered, this recording program strikes us as a below-average choice. Installing MusicStacker takes longer than it should, thanks to the large 30MB file; once it's on your machine, the application takes nearly 35MB of memory. Considering we didn't find MusicStacker's interface to be very well designed, we wonder why it uses so many resources.
The application lets you output files in various formats such as MP3, OGG, and WMA, and you then can select the bit rate of your choice. Similar to most recording programs, this one lets you capture audio from a number of incoming sources, including a line-in jack and a microphone. While you will find a button for adjusting the gain of the incoming signal, avoiding distortion is a trial-and-error-process since the app lacks level indicators. Contrary to the publisher's claims, MusicStacker didn't successfully record copy-protected files in our tests--at least not ones we purchased from the iTunes Music Store. We also missed features such as a voice-activation utility and a scheduler. To make matters worse, the one-day trial period is one of the shortest we've seen. Although this app can be used both as a sound-capture utility and a audio-conversion tool, it still needs plenty of work before we can get more excited about it. - kabewm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1lame! spam for shareware. . .
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0people, jhymn doesn't work anymore. itunes 6 put a stop to that. just use audacity. you're going to listen to it anyways! although, audacity doesn't have an aac encoder; but, if aac is lossless, then you can encode it in wav and re-encode it back into aac. that'd just be like zipping, unzipping, and re-zipping a file on your computer. (zip is another form of lossless compression (for files)
you know what you COULD do? find an aac encoder dll and use that instead of the usual mp3 encoder dll. then, when you export as mp3, you'd really be exporting as aac. huh? whaddaya think of that? then again, aac isn't really open source. so, that'd mean that someone would have to reverse engineer the entire aac format. hey! doesn't itunes allow you to export music files as aac? maybe you could find an aac encoder dll on your computer and use that one. - weesee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0use winamp its better..just make a cd then rip it...enjoy cd in car and play the ripped version on anything with no more drm ...
- dominowrecker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This is just silly. If you are going to "break the law" by removing drm, why not just download the music for free in the first place?
- dmoffitt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Not only can I do this for free, it butchers audio quality and is inconvenient. NO DIGG.
- SteveR4376, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I get around this problem by buying CD's. Copy protection of any kind has pissed me off since the days of the Atari and the Commodore 64. DRM is just a speed bump that wastes peoples time.
- Bleek-II, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0My sound card can do the same thing for free.
- dadofbrook, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I use NoteBurner to convert my purchased iTunes music to MP3. It's faster than the normal recording way to convert M4P to MP3 because NoteBurner uses a Virtual CD-RW method to automatically burn, rip and encode. I test the converting speed: 15 seconds for a 3 minutes song. Really amazing.
- zwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Spam.
@ kin242:
Yeah cause you know its totally unfair only to be able to play the song on 5 machines, or it allowing you to burn to AIFF/WAV and let you rerip it is evil, huh? - Paulie68000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Lame, Lame, Lame... What next, remove DRM by holding a Mic to your speakers and recording it on an eight track?
- mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was getting people to pay to be cornholed..."
Yeah, I believe that company was called Verizon =) - stevex0r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does SharpMusique strip out the DRM? It was created by DVD Jon so I figure it would do this automaticly. If this can strip out drm then I will use it for buying albums, amarok for organizing and listening, and gtkpod to get my music and video on the ipod and I'll never worry about using ituenes again.
