- jonathantneal, on 10/12/2007, -8/+29Here's a direct link to the English installer:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2.0rc2-candidates/rc2/firefox-2.0.en-US.win32.installer.exe - tomi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Why the ***** are people posting and digging nightly builds!?
- optikshell, on 10/12/2007, -5/+21I, for one, am just happy that we have competition in the browser market. Where there is competition, the consumer wins. All parties are pushed to deliver a better, (and sometimes) cheaper product.
IE, for instance, didn't really innovate for years. With the recent proliferation of Firefox, the IE crew is finally trying to deliver something new.
... and just for the record... Go Firefox! ;) - techgirly, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14The direct installer is nice for those looking for the English-Windows version, but if you're looking for a different version the drop-down menu on the blog is pretty nice. Much better than scrounging through the FTP.
- ScoTTeh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8The v1.5 branch is considered stable. no real work is being put into it, just enough to maintain it until v2.0 is released. This is the same as most large scale open source projects.
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6"it breaks many of my favorite extensions"
... Such as? Download Nightly Tester Tools and just hit force compatibility, the only extensions i've had issues with are the Tab Sidebar and AllPeers - cagedog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Hopefully the damn apostrophe bug is fixed. Just search for "firefox apostrophe bug" and you'll see what I mean. F'ing infuriating. And RC1 still has the copy/paste bug which makes me want to smash everything in sight.
- MikeCerm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7The closer we get to Firefox 2, the less I find myself caring. It's not that I don't love Firefox, I just think that 2 isn't that big of an upgrade from 1.5. The new features are insignificant, and it breaks many of my favorite extensions.
I hope that they don't roll it out as an auto-update. I'm glad that they're making progress, but what they've got is more of a 1.6 than a 2, in my book. - redxii, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8There were release candidates for the betas, so why not?
It's actually a nightly. If it were RC2, it'd be in the releases folder. - zzleeper, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I agree.. its not Firefox 2, its not RC2, its a nightly..
- elpayo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Full ist of downloadables for win/mac/linux/etc
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/2.0rc2-candidates/rc2/ - jugaaru, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5cause some people have this disease of upgrading.
- theonlyvlad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8Omg FF builds are confooosing!
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I tried Opera, only to be annoyed to hell and back by incompatibilities by almost all of my sites. While I know it's not Opera's fault, I simply can't give up those sites in favour of Opera (I'm talking quirks, not browser sniffing). In addition, the content blocker in Opera pales in comparison to Firefox's Adblock Plus. When Opera's blocker supports regular expressions and has a Filterset.O, then we'll talk.
- Dested, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Can someone explain to me why firefox is working on both v2 and 1.5? Whats going on here, are they gonna continue doing this?
- thewhitefedora, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4First off this is a nightly build. It's not even meant for public consumption(Of course neither are the Release Candidates).
Second... @Dested
They are currently maintaining Ff 1.x, but not doing any major development on it. Ff 2.x on the other hand, is being developed and should release to the public some time this month. - Gzero, on 10/12/2007, -6/+8Yeah the title is misleading. This isn't the actual RC2, its "RC2 RC2", a test version before the real RC2 is released.
- Evil-Dragon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Released:
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0rc2/win32/en-GB/
http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0rc2/win32/en-US/
Looks like they did it this morning. - cwcheang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2there'll be a link on one of firefox v2's menu that directs to a page with all the names.
- ronaldb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If that's the case, the title is not misleading, but absolutely correct: it's a release candidate of a release candidate. And I was thinking motang was just some one-d-ten-t that didn't know what RC meant.. :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1There is a big issue with the current FF, I can't copy logins and pass sometime if I use bugmenot in sidebar. Any1 experienced this? Well I have FF2 but atm I'm too lazy to try it out :/
- Agret, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Firefox 1.5.0.4 Fixes the Copy & Paste Bug
- Youssif, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Any changes sience FF 2.0 RC1 ?
- mpam, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is just a nightly... You don't want to digg a nightly every day, do you ? And yes, the title is misleading, it's not a RC, it's a candidate for being RC.
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think he is talking about the whole "Firefox Day" thing where you get a friend to signup and both of your names are supposed to go into Firefox 2 somehow.
http://www.worldfirefoxday.com/en/ - Jammerdelray, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Developers are already updating their Extensions and Themes for Firefox 2.0. Compared to a few weeks ago there's alot more Extensions and Themes Updated.
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Most of the good stuff like Cairo and Places are for Firefox 3, and many patches only stayed in the trunk. It's a motto among Mozilla devs, "just wait for Firefox 3". :)
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1nope works great for me!
- usherzx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No, they just edited the version number and put it up for download on their website.. no changes whatsoever
"heres your sign" - shahruz84, on 12/17/2008, -1/+1la la la la la la la
- usherzx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1what the hell are you even talking about!?
- Zsinj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why don't you try submitting a bug report? http://bugzilla.mozilla.org
- auhsor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I wasn't aware it was a known bug, but I saw it the other day and it's easily reproducable for me. On any page I press " ' " (except when typing in this box) and it brings up the search box. Normally it's just when you press Ctrl-F or / . Unless I'm dumb and this always happened. I just noticed it when typing and email in gmail.
- nirvdrum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just because they did something asenine by having RCs for betas, doesn't really excuse them for having RCs for RCs either. Whatever happened to simple alpha -> beta -> RC/release. It's not just them either. I see projects plan 5 RCs -- if that be the case, then the first one wasn't really a candidate for release, was it?
Anyway, the point is, breaking with the established and redefining terms invariably will confuse people, as evidenced by the comments here. - mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've never experienced the copy & paste bug or apostrophe bug myself. Maybe because I'm using a trunk build. Anyone know what I have to do to reproduce it?
- troydoogle7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1useful questions, don't deserve sarcastic useless answers- get a day job or preferably get that new lobotomy, you always wanted.
- Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -14/+13THANK YOU for a direct link. Why report news about one site through another site's blog? C'mon, this is just getting annoying now...
- Adrianc333, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Last beta i tried, didn't have much differences at all.
I much prefer 1.5 - daborg, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1But what happened to the first release candidate of Firefox 2 RC2?
- usherzx, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1copy paste bugs?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1hmm its not that important as opera beats FF in almost all areas. I was a devoted FF fan since it first came out and after building up an extensive library of extensions, I was reluctant to make a browser change, but the speed and usability of opera is outstanding.
Save yourself some hassle and just get opera 9, for a browser better than FF2 - jdong, on 10/12/2007, -12/+7Whoa! that's more 2's than Core 2 Duo!
- reverand, on 10/12/2007, -14/+6a release candidate for a release candidate? WTF!?
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3Mozilla is now the undisputed authority on release candidates of release candidates
I don't even to want to know what will happen before Firefox 3. The outlook is not good, I can tell you that much!
"Developers and testers, the Mozilla Foundation [Corporation?] is proud to announce the release of the first release candidate of the beta of the alpha of the second release candidate of Firefox 3.0 Beta 2. Please be advised this is NOT the final release..."
