- JashX, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I like what I see.
I am pretty excited to see these features in action!- shindig111, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Here is the digg link for the regular version of firefox 2 beta 2 : http://digg.com/tech_news/Firefox_2_0_Beta_2_is_Out
- UNL1M1T3D, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Has anyone had any problems with the regular version of Firefox 2 Beta? I don't want to download it and have it crash all the time.
- mvprj84, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I use it everyday and don't experience any crashes. The stability at this point is really good.
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I'm having the same experience, Beta 2 is a lot more stable than Beta 1. 1 would crash on me once a day. Beta 2 has not crashed yet, the new tabs look great, the search (upper right) is back to having the dropdown under the icon. I'm loving this build!
- vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1version 1.5 has the dropdown under the icon.
- diggywiggit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Great! I was just about to ask this on the offical release story.
The only issue is 3KBps hehe
- vbsurfer, on 10/12/2007, -18/+3Is anyone else not really digging this?
- procdaddy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Hrmm, kinda cool.
- badbox, on 10/12/2007, -46/+5Prism man dislikes a couch that he just bought from ANINE.
What a horse.
Prism man needs to get his 50" rims and put them on his tonka so the garbage men come by and think he's got the goods on hold.- satansbanjo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13What the *****?
- 2L84ME, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9My spam makes more sense than you.
- justinjacobs, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5I wish I understood what was going through your mind.
*block* - MarkJ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2You rule
- dcoolidge, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1And they are being secretive about their features?
- crimson117, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17Why aren't all installations like this? I realize some programs do benefit from shared application data, but the vast majority can and should be as "portable" as this one. Too many windows apps make needless hooks into the registry and application data folders that only end up complicating things.
Even the game World of Warcraft is entirely contained in its folder - you could copy it to another computer and it would run just fine. Or, you could install it to a different partition than windows, and then reformat and reinstall the windows partition, and WoW wouldn't know the difference, and would run just as it did before.- xeeton, on 10/12/2007, -13/+5...you mean like OS X?
- albator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5go to http://portableapps.com/
and http://www.portablefreeware.com/
I use more than 20 portable software on D: partition, so I never need to reinstall them ! - ravenofwinter, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Because most developers are lazy, and don't think.
That said, there are reasons for use of the application data folder, and for the registry, since in theory, it allows one to seperate user data and program data in a handier place. Or to consolodiate configuration information. After all, who wants to go check in a dozen different places for various things? - MikeSD34, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And because technically in a limited user account on windows you don't have write access to Program Files, and all data should be stored in the users folder. You know, the account that isn't Administrator that you're supposed to work from, and only use Administrator when necessary?
- theblackgecko, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This is beyond sweet. If only the other browsers would allow for easy trial.
- albator, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2there a portable version of opera too.
- techpimp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5For those hoping that "portable" was literal, here's mozilla for pocket pc owners
http://www.mozilla.org/projects/minimo/ - naio21, on 10/12/2007, -24/+2"Portable Version Of Firefox 2 Beta 2 Available For Download"
Who cares?- ericnmu, on 10/12/2007, -3/+16I do, thanks for asking.
- milkmage, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1@naio21
YOU DO NOT UNDERSTAND, THERFORE YOU FEAR. - naio21, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1Again: who gives a *****? Firefox is crap, and so it's portable version is what? A poopy?
;-)
- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The good part of this is that you don't have to change your current version just to try it out, thats one reason that people enjoy portable apps, they're easy to try out.
- Mike_N, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I installed it on my laptop, running Vista Pre-RC1 and the home page vibrated. If i refreshed it, it looked fine but at launch, neat bug...
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I just portably creamed my pants!
- Pekay, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0Doh yet Firefox 2.0b2 uses the same amount of memory as my current 1.5.0.5 does... =(.
- davidmcbrown, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0What about apponkey, any news...
http://www.apponkey.com - S4pphire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Lovely looks, I'm sure I haven't gone through the whole portable app but the look of 2.0 but it sure looks really sleek and gorgeous... I'm really excited about the final version...
- warza, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I've been running it for at least an hour or two now and so far no problems. Seems pretty smooth.
- micahwilli, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I use this @ work as my main browser. It leaves NOTHING on your CPU. This is old news honestly (~2 weeks). But i Can't say enough about John T. Haller & portableapps.com. He's honestly changed how i look at opensource on my work PC. Digg
- theonlyvlad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I definitely agree with the people who say that more apps should be like this one: it doesn't have to be "portable" -- it's just friggin convenient.
Why does my cache have to be in documents and settings>username>local settings>app data>mozilla>firefox>DSKFJSEIREWJ>cache??
Oh btw, funny thing is: I installed real beta: crashes upon startup. Can't get it to work. Unzipped this, works like a charm.- S4pphire, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Your question about the cache; I believe that question is more entitled to be asked in the Firefox Support forum at mozilla.org or at the Microsoft support forum.
- djdigital, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1What about the memory leak?
- S4pphire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Firefox 1.x memory leak was fixed in 1.0.7 - Don't know if Firefox 2.0 suffers from the memoryleak....
- artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I like surprises, if you know what I mean.
- bluemath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Love it. Portable is so convenient for those who work at companies that restrict installs.
- Johnatton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I seem to be getting a 403 page. Could someone mirror the file for me, please?
- sirmasterboy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1This is pretty much the only reason i would use firefox.
- seanthelinguist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0http://www.mozilla.com/products/download.html?product=firefox-2.0b2&os=win&lang=ca
How hard was that? Change one number in the link on the b1 page... - mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I was running PortableFirefox 1.5 so I just coped my Profile directory to 2.0b2 and everything came over smoothly...however, most of my extensions don't work with it yet...hopefully they'll update them.
Firefox without extensions = IE- georgemoore13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2except without the security flaws
- rsavage, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's not too bad of an update. The design seems to borrow from Vista's design strategy of making all of the icons shiny but besides that not really doing anything innovative. Hopefully this will improve.
- MrZop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1It's not bad. running it off my OCZ Rally thumbdrive. seems ok so far. crashed twice. not sure why.
so, hoe do i get the tabs to act like the older firefox? i dislike the scrolling, i don't mind the tabs shrinking and losing there name. - mydave, on 07/25/2008, -0/+0it's nice but I like IE7.
