It's really not that big of a risk, there isnt even any japanese text on the installer. I doubt the US official release is going to be any different than this one, the wait time is probably them just getting the servers ready for the massive download.
It was hard letting go of homebrew, but then again there really wasnt anything all the great ready for homebrew yet. I was excited about the prospect of SNES on the go, but its still slow as hell and uses up very little of the screen real estate. I'd rather have the nice web browser and the other features 2.0 brings. - icespide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'm not worried about podcasting on my psp, I just want the web browser and the ability to set my own wallpaper and ***** and just the overall sleek 2.0ness of it
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I see a HUGE benefit to this (eliminating the need for a computer to get podcasts only a portable media player), but the video is confusing - he seems to goto the RSS feed then says "I've already downloaded the podcast..." I guess what I want to see is an app that simply allows me to input feeds and then the latest feed gets downloaded into my music folder.
- SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just get Videora and PSPVideo9 on your PC... it allows you "PSPcasting"
- icespide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0well I mean if I install the japanese version won't by psp be recognized as japanese or something? what about future automated updates? will I be doomed to always have to find the installer on the net?
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone have a link to the 2.0 file?
- Smoktiludy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I remember reading somewhere that the new firmware adds a type of encryption to everything which would make it extremely hard to crack and run homebrew. I wish I could find where I read that..
- Sharky, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am using the PSP to type this. This is a US with Jap. firmware. Works just fine. I think the same firmware is going to be released in US since this had a US EULA. Digg works pretty good but classic would have been better. lt has it's own useragent so a brwoser check is possible meaning it could display classic Digg for PSP. Typing that took agood 15 minutes.
- icespide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0link from ign's psp site to the update, includes a readme if you need help running it
http://pspmedia.ign.com/psp/binary/article/637/637073/PSP-UPDATE-2_0.zip - malichi_91, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I can say that i just updated mine to 2.0 and everything works great.
- chriskzoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone get that PSP keyboard yet?
- JakenBear, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I believe I heard Kevin Rose say in one of his podcasts that they were going to have a classic option in the future for those who liked it better. I agree, Classic would work great on the PSP.
- SupaDawg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i still say the video9 method is better... as it also allows vidcasting.
as far as the browser goes, there's a browser ripped from tenchi... it's a standalone & works faster than the 2.0 firmware browser... plus i can play games and run cool homebrew (like PS-Djay mp3 player)
i'm avoiding 2.0 like the plague. - Singe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's just an mp3. Not that amazing.
- adamS, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree that it would be a great benefit for it to automatically pull the files from the RSS feed. From the video, it appears that it's a manual process. At least it can pull them properly without any hacks, though.
- bigboludo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I won't be upgrading firmware anytime soon, I can run 3-4 PSP games right from the memory stick right now, and use the Wipeout Pure browser if I need to, as well as change the backgrounds, all without the 2.0 firmware. There are enough podcasts available at my computer that I can download them there and put them on the PSP rather than trying to get them through Sony's browser while on the go.
- DeVryGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@ Smoktiludy: Eh. They'll eventually crack the 2.0 firmware also, and by the time they do the emulators will be more mature (and hopefully to a place I'll like). The new legal games are going to eventually force upgrades anyhow, so I'm not going to worry about it. I like 2.0, and I've already used the new features more than I've used Homebrew programs.
- juandj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well, the PSP has always been able to do podcasting. You could just sync it with almost all podcast clients just like the freaking iPod does. So.. now the psp is much better than the iPod... :)
- Smoktiludy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"I was excited about the prospect of SNES on the go, but its still slow as hell and uses up very little of the screen real estate"
Wtf are you talking about? You can change that in the options to allow viewing in full screen...as well as overclock and frameskip for a truly wonderful SNES experience. I can vouch first-hand. Upgrading the PSP is lame. - dclowd9901, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I never had the homebrew, but I wanted it. The hackers never got around to getting it to work for later versions of the firmware, most likely because they didn't feel it was a necessity. I'd like to get the homebrew, and I think that with this release of the firmware, that is actually useful, they may have a reason now to crack a later firmware version, and I have faith they can. ;)
- G-RaZoR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This video reminds me of that one eBay picture a while ago, where you can see the person through the reflection.... hehe. I guess this is pretty neat, if you want to grab the podcast while on the go, of course the Video 9 method works great because it supports vidcasting ;)
- Ender61484, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I am not going to trade my emulators for a web browser especially when I have a web browser in Wipeout Pure.
- icespide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0god dammit when are they going to release 2.0 in the US. I know the japanese version works on all psp's but I just dont want to take a risk

What is Digg?
