- MasterBeowulf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+32As an Opera user, you have no idea how excited I am that my favorite web browser is going to be available for my favorite portable game machine! I can't wait for this to come out!!!
- CornStarch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+20Can you stream media with it?
- MikeCampo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18The DS is catching up on the PSP, feature wise :) I can't wait to get a DS Lite and this makes it all the more better.
- AwesomeMonster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10No, no you can't.
- gamabunta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8It kills me that WPA isn't supported. Why should anyone have to weaken security on their networks just to enjoy the web?
- spoonmanp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'm curious to see what kind of javascript support the DS opera will have. It'd be awesome to be able to use a javascript rich site like gmail from my DS!
- organicsalsa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I have extended the article a bit to add some more details as well as some more praise about a browser done incredibly well.
- corkster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Also, can it run flash or java games?
- thatbox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I'm also excited at the possibility of a DS-cum-remote for Xbox Media Center. There are people working on AJAXing the current HTML interface, and it's looking good.
- organicsalsa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Keep in mind the Cartridges that I was using were prototypes. There is in fact one cartridge in the DS slot which contains the Opera browser, the cartridge in the Advance slot is used for memory. The official cartridge design isn't final and changes are iminent.
- friend18, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I wish Nintendo would stop Japanese favoratism and release the Play yan and Opera browser over here. Not cool!
- vikramkr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm curious as to if you will be able to download pictures to the DS's memory. Anyone know?
Also, like curtis2, I am wondering if the DS is technically sufficient to play web based Flash and Java games. - blakholephysics, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Why do you need a browser?
http://www.digg.com/gaming/Remote_PC_Access_with_Nintendo_DS - anonatron, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6there is no need to weaken your own security, keep WPA on your network and browse the web on your DS using your neighbor's network!
- pfunked, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There are no region codes on the DS. Any Japanese cart works with the US portables and vice versa. (Don't know if the Japanese cart will come with an option for English interface).
- gcnaddict, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8You know what would REALLY make me want to get the browser?
Remember the ajax remote desktop app shown off on Digg (http://digg.com/programming/AJAX_Remote_Desktop ) recently? With some improvements to that, I'd use the browser to connect to my home compy and do other fun things with it. - Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think it's interesting that although he's using a lite he didn't get the lite version of the GBA slot cartridge. I also wish that they'd at least announce a US launch date...
I also hope flash works. Homestarrunner on the DS = the awesome. - nathanmock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4direct links to pics:

It's going to be hard to run a program like Flash on the DS's hardware I would assume, as the PSP seems to lag when using Flash and can only handle Flash 6.0 I believe. Just a man's thought. However I dearly hope I'm wrong and will be enjoying Flash content on my Lite in the near future...
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6No, $33 for a mobile browser. Don't forget the DS is only $130, and I'm sure lots of hard work went into the devolopment for this browser made specifically for the DS. I'll buy one when they come to the US, and I'll bet they'll go for $29.99.
- BasouKazuma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I'm pretty sure it doesn't support movie viewing or online games. Just normal web browsing and picture viewing.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5why arnt there more pictures of the browers itself on that webpage. God damnit people take pictures of this ***** so we can see it.
- gahmahn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Does anyone know if this will come with any plugins? (ex. flash, some in-browser video player, java)
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3umm..............they did, actually. There's a version for the old DS and one for the Lite
- hrdcregmer808, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I can't wait till this come to the US
- vikramkr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This looks güter!
- bledig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Any idea if the DS Opera supports IRC?
Or web based messengers?
Cause that would so rock - cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3gcnaddict: that's what pointyremote is for
http://www.flickr.com/photos/mattearnshaw/108088940/in/photostream/ - idonthack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why do you want to play web games on a DS? Just play your DS games :)
- Cerberus047, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3or google video or youtube......and DIGG!!!!
- bledig, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Anyone out there already got this ?

www.digg.com(of coz)
www.gmail.com
www.meebo.com(or other web based messengers)
www.flickr.com
www.nintendo.com(lotsa flash...how ironic if ds unable to access? :D)
any css heavy sites(does Opera DS support this properly?)
IRC
bittorent...just kidding :) - howie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It has the same JS support as Opera for PC. So basically, everything including Ajax.
- bjohnsonwsu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2flash is not supported by the DS Browser
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I can't freaking wait to get one of these for every DS I have. If you can view IGN webpages and GMail. OMFG.
- Dielji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Sounds fantastic, I really can't wait for this thing.
- monkeycool, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3does anyone know if the Japanese version is compatible with a US DS lite?
- mushoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This will go great for me here in TX if the old geezers in the city council do something with this.
http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/14790041.htm
But then again this is the largest city in the United States that is not served by a public transportation system.
People make weird choices. No to public transportation, yes to Cowboys Stadium. Hooray for old people voting. - rockintom99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Uh... the DS doesnt have any permanent memory.
- curtis2, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I'm really excited about this. I just hope I can do most of the things I normally do while surfing the web, like watching videos or playing games.
- Dhalgren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@monkey
"the initial version" may refer to the prototype they were working with back in February. It could have changed since then. - computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There's a special DS Lite RAM cart... this person probably just got a "phat" DS version.
EDIT: Too late. :( - shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1or atleast thats what it says....
Im looking forward to netvibes and meebo. - drewolanoff, on 06/10/2008, -0/+1Great work buddy!
- jfujita, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It has been confirmed that it cannot run flash, PDFs and streaming media
- organicsalsa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1JUst to touch on a couple important questions that people have been asking. Yes, Javascript is supported. No, Flash is not supported.
- IcerC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1PaiTrakt looks like your on the right track. That F11 + shift is neat.
Can't wait! This might become the best truely pocket internet viewer. - rockintom99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've heard somewhere (dont remember, really) that it doesnt run flash or java, but can at least do javascript.
- Vagari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, the lack of WPA drives me nuts. I understand the difficulty implementing it. But I'd _love_ if it existed. I'm actually debating to reduce my security this weekend since I live in a rural area and have reception problems with the dongle (house layout, not defective). Plus other machines that are WPA deficient and plugged in, when they could be wireless...
- Vagari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I guess it'll be a good way to test sites for small screens too. I realize you can already do it on the desktop, but actually having the small screen helps. It's like using Lynx to test for screen readers. It gives you an idea, but it's not exactly how it works for someone who is blind.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1You realize that the feature set will almost be completely different, right?
It's a completely different device. -
