- RyomaNagare, on 09/01/2009, -21/+155this browser is seriously amazing.
the 10 update is light years ahead of the competition. I understand the temptation to keep using what you are right now.
but opera 10 is fast packed with features, a nice interface which is fully customizable. and a good community that will help you get started.
its mail client, is the best one I've used on mac, with really fast IMAP.
turbo is amazing, unite is groundbreaking.
I mean you really should try it. install it, use the sync option try using your email in it. customize it to your liking and you'll get what all the fuzz is about.
I don't say you should ditch your current browser. but opera is one of the good guys, it seriously deserves more market share. Opera is the main pusher of innovations in firefox. without it firefox would still be the bloated piece of crap that 2.x and 3.0 were. - SgtTurdMiner, on 09/01/2009, -37/+154Opera > all
- prsurfer, on 09/01/2009, -42/+158Bye Bye Firefox... Opera 10 rocks!
- ClarkLab, on 09/01/2009, -5/+79"coupled with our new Turbo technology, which keeps Web pages loading lightning fast, even if your connection slows down"
sounds like a bad NetZero commercial. - inactive, on 09/01/2009, -7/+66Opera is just really well designed, with a long history for speed, security and high standards for compliance.
Not to mention innovation. Half of the default features in major browsers today were in Opera first. They haven't merely improved their browser, they've improved browsing for everyone, and they're worth supporting for that reason alone. - LumpOfCole, on 09/01/2009, -13/+71Opera Turbo is the real deal. As a bonus, it acts like a quick and dirty proxy when you need one too - best feature yet.
Oh, and here is Adblock for Opera. Just right-click/save the URL filter in the folder it instructs for your OS:
http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/opera/ - cheech794, on 09/01/2009, -2/+55Thanks but i will stick to IE 6 and my dial up connection. Crap my mom has to make a phone call....
- down1nit, on 09/01/2009, -6/+58FTP link in case anyone's having trouble with the Opera.com website
Version 10.00 Windows: ftp://ftp.opera.com/pub/opera/win/1000/en/ - rocky2328, on 09/01/2009, -3/+54Dugg this with opera 10. Ridiculously fast.
- Chewie67, on 09/01/2009, -41/+86And millions of voices rose up as one and cried.... meh.
- eShinn, on 09/01/2009, -4/+48Yesterday I would have been laughing at you. I'm seriously digging Opera 10. For some reason Firefox has been ridiculously slow lately. I love Safari on the Mac, but on the PC here at work it's STILL got issues displaying text in italics at times. IE... I use IE Tester for checking on 6 and 7 versions and have IE 8 installed. Google Chrome, I check for compatibility but still don't quite trust having Google know everywhere I go on the Internet.
Safari is still going to be my main browser on my Mac at home, but here at the office, I'll be using Opera 10. I wouldn't be if it didn't have the developer tools, but it does. Version 9 might have had them and I just didn't bother to look, but hey. I'm liking this version. - Ramble, on 09/01/2009, -4/+48Bloated and the number of features have nothing to do with each other. Firefox offers none of that and Opera is still faster and leaner.
- netneutrality, on 09/01/2009, -17/+55Opera: Still the best browser on any platform.
- Jough, on 09/01/2009, -1/+38I'm glad Opera is finally getting the Digg publicity it deserves!
- Wareznuke, on 09/01/2009, -12/+45For once we're getting positive comments on Opera. 10.00 is really fast and stable. Love it.
- MrOnLine, on 09/01/2009, -6/+39Opera is the best browser ever ..
way ahead of any browser .. and before every browser copies the new features here i am saying it : " Opera Had It First "
Yaaaaay - msanstail, on 09/01/2009, -5/+37I haven't tried Opera since about 2001. I think I'll give them another shot.
- Kazbaeden, on 09/01/2009, -3/+33Opera has all those features, comes in at 6.6 MB (compared to 7.7MB for FF), is overall faster than firefox, and you can use as many or as little features as you want.
So with or without all those features Opera is still leaner than Firefox. - vysakh, on 09/01/2009, -5/+34Been using since version 6
Opera truly rocks. - inactive, on 09/01/2009, -2/+31Opera has dragonfly, and it works really well.
- jemka, on 09/01/2009, -1/+28Yeah, only people that use digg are now downloading opera 10.
- mdaize, on 09/01/2009, -3/+24@JoaoPe
Opera is far from bloated and even with many of those features such as news/email/irc client, etc. it still outperforms most browsers. One of the big points that RyomaNagare was trying to make is that Opera deserves more of a market footprint as many features that Firefox has were innovated in Opera. Still to this point, Opera has MANY features that no other browsers have implemented but are still some of the BEST usability features out there. Eg. "Paste & Go", "Speed Dial", and integration of widgets & near complete customization.
@Vinvin
Opera doesn't need to be open source to be well deserved. Sure it does not have the wide variety of extensions or add-ons that are available for the friendly Firefox but still has a large amount available and has a very robust customization ability. As far as Turbo is concerned, it does make a significant difference and if you would test it, you would see a large improvement. - HigherLogic, on 09/01/2009, -3/+24Yes x 100
- WOFall, on 09/01/2009, -1/+20Opera Dragonfly is coming along quite nicely... although it's currently down along with the server.
Tools - Advanced - Developer Tools. - prsurfer, on 09/01/2009, -3/+21pages load faster even with a bad connection because Turbo will compress images in those cases...
Turbo is great for those places with a bad connection... - IJS209, on 09/01/2009, -7/+25I'm not a big fan of Opera but the new browser is really fast.
It also passes the Acid 3 test with 100/100. Something Firefox can't do. Yet. - skunkman62, on 09/01/2009, -27/+43spoken like a true opera employee
- ClarkLab, on 09/01/2009, -2/+18I know exactly what it is. And NetZero has been pushing it for years. Which is why I made fun of it.
- chockster, on 09/01/2009, -5/+21That'll sure have an impact on my day to day browsing!
... - tech10171968, on 09/01/2009, -3/+18"Not to mention innovation. Half of the default features in major browsers today were in Opera first. They haven't merely improved their browser, they've improved browsing for everyone, and they're worth supporting for that reason alone."
And what leaves me scratching my head is that they almost *NEVER* get credit for any of this. - prsurfer, on 09/01/2009, -2/+17Glad you like it!... I had FF for years but once I learned all the features, I evolved to Opera and wont go back!.....
Wait till you get more familiar and customize the browsert like u want it! Not only the skins, but the toolbars!!!...Once you learn all the little tricks the browser really shines...
Don't forget the Unite feature, too!!! i think it will be special! - huntermcwhite, on 09/01/2009, -3/+18I've bee waitiing all my life for this
- inactive, on 09/01/2009, -1/+16Your entire computer is made by companies that have "investors". Hell, even Mozilla is a corporation that rakes in over 70 million a year with a CEO who makes a half a million a year. Why would you give a *****?
- winry, on 09/01/2009, -5/+19No css border-radius yet but still awesome.
- WOFall, on 09/01/2009, -2/+16They're working on improving Vega, so that properties such as this can easily be made system independent. So far as I know, border-radius isn't yet a standard, so it can wait a while.
- ferrisnox, on 09/01/2009, -1/+15Market share doesn't mean anything to me... or that user over there, or that one over there. If anything Opera is the anti-market share... its about a browser built on choice, customization and not following the heard mentality. If you use a specific browser just because your neighbor does... well good for you I guess. I use one because it suites me and I know its the best out there.
- crimaluca, on 09/01/2009, -3/+17Just switched from Firefox to opera 10. Honestly it's faster and feels lighter.
- RyomaNagare, on 09/01/2009, -0/+14Also Opera has the ability to integrate with your webmail, so if you click a mailto tag, it will automatically take you to gmail or yahoomail etc. But still you can set an imap server and use the low bandwidth mode in which it only downloads the headers of the mails enabling the lightning fast indexing that allows for instant search. and only download the bodies and attachments on demand.
- Danners, on 09/01/2009, -0/+14http://www.fanboy.co.nz/adblock/opera/
Put the ini file above in C:\Users\[User]\AppData\Roaming\Opera\Opera (Vista/7) - BrownieMix, on 09/01/2009, -5/+19Should I download Opera 10?
- spect3r, on 09/01/2009, -6/+19http://acid3.acidtests.org/
100% with Opera 10
First browser I've seen pass acid 3. I know safari was close... - AmusedToDeath, on 09/01/2009, -0/+13You seen?
- Ramble, on 09/01/2009, -4/+17And Opera had spell checking for God knows how long. This time it's just inline.
- javaroast, on 09/01/2009, -6/+19That does block ads, but it isn't Adblock
- HigherLogic, on 09/01/2009, -3/+16Opera is the 3rd most popular browser in the world, and simply dominates the mobile market.
- latrosicarius, on 09/01/2009, -1/+13Opera is very strict when it comes to standards. It's one of the most CSS standard compliant browsers I can think of. I don't use it much for browsing, but I do use it to make sure my websites render like they *should*. Then put hacks for all other browsers.
- Kazbaeden, on 09/01/2009, -2/+14I've tried chrome... I just couldn't deal with the lack of features compared to Opera. You can keep it.
- dougm68, on 09/01/2009, -2/+14This is the first time I loaded opera and said, yeah, now this will work nicely. GREAT job fellas.
- joe1985, on 09/01/2009, -17/+29Definitely better than Internet Explore but I doubt I'll start using it. FF with FireBug is a developers dream come true.
- KielKilla, on 09/01/2009, -0/+12Someone doesn't know what bloat means...
