- WordsnCollision, on 06/03/2009, -3/+37I really like Opera, especially its "Paste & Go" feature for URLs.
- yaosio, on 06/03/2009, -1/+28Wow, a program that can update itself? I don't believe you.
- feelfree86, on 06/03/2009, -5/+23Made the switch from firefox to opera when opera 9 came out and never looked back. It's just so much faster and easier
- Takuro, on 06/03/2009, -3/+21Seriously... this was just posted on the front page 6 hours ago
http://digg.com/software/Opera_10_beta_is_out - tc4001, on 06/03/2009, -0/+15Using it right now a really liking it!
- HigherLogic, on 06/03/2009, -0/+15Notes, MDI, Opera Link, Speed Dial, mouse gestures, the Wand (this alone is reason enough), built-in RSS reader, IRC, and mail client (with notification in the system taskbar), content blocker, fast forward and rewind, more customizable (not only visually, but in other areas as well), renders pages better and faster (and more options to customize this), better page scrolling, awesome caching system (since the back button is the most used feature, this makes a huge difference), the right-click menu for selected text (search with, translate, define, encycopedia, go to web address, etc.), doesn't hog your system resources and require a restart every 30 minutes, doesn't bog down when a JS- or plugin-rich page loads, more usable and accessible (the Z and X key for back and forward), and the fact that you don't have to download 20+ extensions just to get half the features mentioned above (and most of which aren't comparable and since it's from the maker of the browser, don't have to worry about it breaking with an upgrade). But hey, whatever floats your boat.
- bryano, on 06/03/2009, -2/+15Made the switch from firefox to opera a while back, the search engine function is incredibly convenient, and so is speed-dial, although I'm guessing there is are equivalent add-ons for firefox?
- HigherLogic, on 06/03/2009, -1/+13"Well Firefox has an extension for that!"
- Arseny89, on 06/03/2009, -3/+14"Spelling errors are now indicated as you type via a dotted red underline in all places where you can input text."
Dotted red underline? I had no idea that kind of technology existed. - anillop, on 06/03/2009, -2/+13Oh I see what you did you cleverly changed that names of the products you don't like. I am in awe of your witt sir there is no need for the discussion to continue further.
- eselet, on 06/03/2009, -0/+10The right click option "go to web adress" is also great when you have highlighted an url
- DanWright, on 06/03/2009, -1/+11What is there not to like about that comment? It has been buried, as this one will also be. I made a mistake, the mistake was brought to my attention and as a result I apologised and have learnt work a bit harder on my critical thinking skills. There sure is a load of dislike in a community whose main purpose is essentially to like things.
- boydrew, on 06/03/2009, -3/+12because without other browser companies pushing the jerks at IE, we'd probably be forced to use some buggy browser that the company doesn't care about. FYI: Monopolies=bad
- DanWright, on 06/03/2009, -2/+11I'm sorry :-( Those 7 burys feel like bullets to the chest.
As a consequence of this incident I am going to go and download Opera and see what it's like. - GeeZuZz, on 06/03/2009, -0/+9Because you'll know what features your browser gets next year.
- damnshoes, on 06/03/2009, -0/+9ITS SELF AWARE!
- xErath, on 06/03/2009, -1/+10bloat free, fast, features not crippled by upgrade (like extensions), much more customizable out of the box right on the UI, turbo for the crappy dial up and 3g connection, full mdi and tab based interface (no more entries lurking in the taskbar), etc.... but in the end it boils down to personal preference, so if you like FF better, then good for you.
- dawpa2000, on 06/03/2009, -2/+10DanWright, feelfree86 didn't say that Firefox was hard. feelfree86 said that Opera was easier.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -0/+7 I wonder how many people who prefer Firefox have actually tried Opera. And I mean really tried it, like for a couple weeks, not just a half hour.
Seriously, the Opera crew have created a lot of the features your present browser has. Shouldn't that degree of innovation be rewarded by giving it an honest chance? - trogdoor, on 06/04/2009, -0/+7Opera does not have a stable release with html 5 video support, they have a separate experimental build with support but nothing released.
- thenativeraver, on 06/03/2009, -1/+8"reading books and learning"
Since this was the last item on your list, you are clearly a dumb ass. - dawpa2000, on 06/03/2009, -1/+8Yes, but I think the Firefox Speed Dial is kind of clumsy, and it is slower to load new tabs after installing the extension.
- PeterFile, on 06/03/2009, -4/+10Opera does it without an addon.
- jamc100, on 06/03/2009, -1/+7Chrome has "paste & go"
- rif42, on 06/03/2009, -0/+6I saw some hints that it support HTML 5 including the video feature. Does this beta support it?
- GeeZuZz, on 06/03/2009, -5/+10And that's just one of about 20+ other really simple but useful things Opera has, that no other browser has. When you start to learn and use many of them, all other browsers feels slow and annoying to use.
Opera's problem is that most users never learns to use all the features it has. - inactive, on 06/03/2009, -3/+8Opera is just that awesome.
- HigherLogic, on 06/03/2009, -2/+6The great thing about Opera is...you don't have to install an extension, it's built-in to the browser. For example, what Digg looks like for me, no ads anywhere: http://img192.imageshack.us/img192/9297/operadigg. ...
- PeterFile, on 06/03/2009, -1/+5Loving the new Opera beta. It's a lot faster and crashes less - deviantart always crashed my alpha. Not so sure about the new skin though.
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -1/+5no we'll be abel to tell wat browser peoepl are usiing based on what their coments day.
- vault, on 06/03/2009, -5/+9In the most non-trolling way possible...why would someone use Opera? Just explain it to me...I've downloaded it and given it a shot, and I always go back to firefox. Why wouldn't you want all the firefox extensions etc.?
- HigherLogic, on 06/04/2009, -0/+4So why didn't you customize the design? You can remove almost everything, and there are plenty of simplistic themes out there as well.
- v4vishal, on 06/03/2009, -0/+4100/100 in acid3.
- dawpa2000, on 06/03/2009, -1/+4http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?ver=10.00b1
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -3/+6Opera 10 Beta 1 for Linux Changelog: http://www.opera.com/docs/changelogs/linux/1000b1/
- inactive, on 06/03/2009, -3/+6Because Opera has much of what of those add ons have built into it, and has invented countless features that other browsers have ripped off.
Why would you use Firfeox when it's buggy, sluggish, has memory leaks problems,
has conflicts between add on developers that result in intrusive measures made to your browser without your permission (just google Adblock plus vs NoScript), is less secure, and doesn't render pages well ( google "acid test 3" with Firefox. Opera scores a perfect 100), thus not allowing let you view content the way it was intended, which simultaneously insults both you and the people who put a lot of work into those websites.
Personally, I'd rather support a browser that's developed by innovative, foreward-thinking individuals rather than people who have constantly copy what the other guy is doing. - hyperhtml, on 06/04/2009, -0/+3Well Said, Opera pretty much out does everyone in the features it does have.
- dawpa2000, on 06/03/2009, -1/+4A new speling era has begun!
- HigherLogic, on 06/03/2009, -2/+5HTML5 support has been available in Opera for over a year now, and the video tag has been supported since Opera 9.5 (current version is 9.6). And of course, great CSS3 support and passes Acid3.
- hyperhtml, on 06/04/2009, -0/+2That feature was in Opera 9.
- Hortnon, on 06/04/2009, -4/+6"Opera does it without an addon."
So? - aristideau, on 06/04/2009, -0/+2Update still screws up my custom search.ini, have to remember to manually backup next time.
Thought this was fixed? - ferrisnox, on 06/03/2009, -1/+3Its free now... has been for years... give it another shot or shut up.
- TheSeeker11, on 06/04/2009, -0/+2Sounds like witchcraft to me.
- Giever, on 06/10/2009, -0/+1I read your sentence and I then I realized you were too.
- svivian, on 06/05/2009, -1/+2Are you ***** serious? You criticise Opera without even having used it?
- svivian, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1Correction: a version of Opera that is not yet released scores 100% on acid3. Current version fails just like Firefox. I'm sure Firefox 3.5 will be closer to 100%.
- theonewho, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1This is a feature that is hard to explain. I did find the option to have the tabs on the left side, but with my current firefox setup the new tabs from links in pages get indented to the right. A link opened on a sub page gets indented further and is all listed under the first originating tab into a group. This group can be expanded or collapsed. New tabs can be dragged/dropped into an existing group....I'm doing horrible on explaining these features. I sometimes have tons of tabs open and this addon helps me organize them and more easily get back to where I started from due to the tree structure of the tabs and groups.
It's not even a huge deal. Just something that would be nice if Opera could do to. - theonewho, on 06/04/2009, -0/+1At the risk of sounding like I'm trying to say that Firefox is better (which I'm not), I'm wondering if I can make Opera do something. I've recently gotten into a Firefox extension called Tree Style Tab that lets you put the tabs on the side of the browser and each link clicked on a page opens up in a tab below in a tree structure. Hard to explain without seeing it, but it's kind of like that browser called iRider that came out ages ago. I also have a plugin that puts a small thumbnail in the tab so I can see what's what easier.
Can Opera do what I'm talking about? I really do want to know because it would be a huge selling point for using it for me. - tashiwangdi, on 06/11/2009, -0/+1check e-mail with opera ,just see this :http://tashiwangdi.blogspot.com/2009/06/how-to-che ...
