- fartingbob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+101IE 7 has just been released and is closed source, of course its going to have less addon's than an open source rival thats been available for over a year now.
And what is it with microsoft having those pointless images of people staring into nothing, as if they are experiecing a life changing epiphany that somehow has something to do with Microsoft. Every MS product page seems to have a different person, none of them appear to be using the product they are advertising though. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+79CustomMenu Add-On for Webmaster costs $400.00.
LMAO. - KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+61I don't see any problems in using .exe files as the medium to spread your extensions. Nope, none...
- steelmaverick, on 10/12/2007, -4/+57I want a noia 2 like theme for IE7.
Also, some of these you have to PAY for. Screw that, extensions on FF are free! - altf4me, on 10/12/2007, -2/+42I find the website cramped and hard to navigate. Most of it looks like ads. Good for Microsoft introducing extensions to IE7, but please design the website better!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+37OMG only $400? I will buy it immediately :D
- mkoby, on 10/12/2007, -3/+34None of the "extensions" look like something that isn't already available from a third party. I think if Microsoft really wants to compete with Firefox they are going to need to allow people to make and share their own extensions and themes.
This however is a good first step. But I'll stick to Firefox, thank you. - ProphetSix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+32Wait.... Pop-Up Blocking and Auto Form-Fill are now Add-On's ?!?!?!?
Whiskey. Tango. Foxtrot. - haxx4, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31Why do Microsoft webpages always have to have a picture of people smiling at their computer?
- lazyrussian, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Thats their marketing scheme.
They know in real life that someone who buys a microsoft product will be crying due to spyware or virues or ie7 within a matter of days. - abid786, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Most are not free
- scratched, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20Microsoft has a history of doing little more than imitating a third party, and they've become very successful on that business model. I don't think it's right but it seems to have worked in the past for microsoft.
If only the general consumer was aware of this and knew who the real innovators are. A good majority of people still use IE and probably have no idea (if they even upgrade) that most of their "new" features came from firefox and other browsers. - Anubis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+19Bill's not in charge anymore :p
- Firemanjoe, on 10/12/2007, -4/+18Not all free! that sucks!!!
- rubored, on 10/12/2007, -5/+19HAHAHAHAHA.
Microsoft and other companies are making software extensions and selling them, such as PopUp Blocker Lite, PopUp Blocker Basic, yet FireFox offers all these plus more free..!
$29.99 for a Pop-Up Blocker extension, that takes 'minimal memory and CPU load'?
No thanks..
I'll stick with my FireFox, Microsoft.. - abid786, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13at least they have Stumbleupon
- NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Check out the jpeg compression on that guy, must be the work of Microsoft Paint and it's "we will compress the ***** out of your picture and there isn't dick you can do about it" algorithm.
Oh wait, the pictures change. Three happy asians this time. - darkixion, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16IE 1 (aka Spyglass Mosaic) - 1995
IE 2 - 1996
IE 3 - 1996
IE 4 - 1997
IE 5 - 1999
IE 6 - 2001
IE 7 - 2006
Firefox 1 - 2004
Firefox 2 - 2006 (probably)
Firefox 3 - Due 2007
It appears Internet Explorer's new versions are being issues increasingly slower, whereas Firefox's are the opposite and are gaining speed.
Microsoft have copied most of their new features, so it's not as if they've needed all the time to invent, develop and innovate their browser. I actually found it quite unintuitive, and the new way it zooms is different to how it's previous browser and other browsers work. That's the one thing I liked about Microsoft; maintaining some sense of consistency.
What I don't understand is how we can check the source code of the add-ons. It appears they are only available in .exe format. We can't check to see exactly what they do. I'm able to see how each extension works in Firefox by unzipping the .xpi file and looking at the files in the chrome folder. Also, do Microsoft only have access to the .exe file when reviewing it for listing? If so, how can they say it's harmless? If they do demand access to the source code, how dare they after closing nearly all of their own software. - Zipp425, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12@"And what is it with microsoft having those pointless images of people staring into nothing, as if they are experiecing a life changing epiphany that somehow has something to do with Microsoft. Well, after designing a few webpages and graphics for microsoft, I must tell you, they dont give us anything better. I wonder the same thing myself all the time... - masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11The same reason it lists Maxathon as an extension for IE7 and says, "IE 5 or 6 required." It's old and stupid.
- DarkSorrow, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Yow know that Bill is not in charge of Microsoft??
Steve is controlling Microsoft, the guy-who-dont-know-how-to-get-rid-of-spyware-on-his-friend-computer Steve Ballmer.
In fact, he is a idiot. He way worse than Bill Gate, such a greedy person who love to rip off people - Unr3a1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9LMAO I like this one...

For $25 you can FINALLY download those flash movies from ie7. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -53/+60laughable when compared to the number of extensions that Firefox has.
- h3xley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8lol, i just got an old man using a titanium powerbook (of course with the apple logo photoshopped out)
- jkrebs1, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12when are they going to come up with a usable javascript debugger?!
damn, ie sucks! - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16"If Microsoft really wants to compete with Firefox"
A lot must have happened while I slept last night. When I went to bed Firefox was trying to compete with IE. - yohan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10To be protected online it costs MONEY?
http://www.ieaddons.com/default.aspx?cid=1&scid=63
Hahahaha!
http://www.getfirefox.com - rtjac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7It's great that most of these are "Trial" add-ons and that it doesn't tell you that until you are installing them. I hope they all have nag screens - that should hasten the IE7 demise.
- daldredge, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9There is a link on the FIRST PAGE of the linked site on how to write your own ie7 extensions.
http://www.ieaddons.com/helpcenter/SubmitAddOn.aspx - Tanath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8As of Firefox 2, extensions are called Add-ons as well.
- xswag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Now that I looked around the site. It seems most of the plugins cost money. Nice one. They probably don't allow any third party development either. Sad. It could have been a nice browser.
I'm just glad to see IE users get tabs. - danakin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Will they have a "View in Firefox" extension? You know, to properly see sites that actually are standards compliant?
- wangjiaji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Some of them cost 400+ dollars, oh dear, this is the worstest thing I've ever seen.
- CBTF, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Except for the fact these are not extensions.. you people are so quick to jump on the fanboy train.
And to those bitching about cost, open your eyes. "Show freeware only".
Now for the ceremonial digg down of a sane comment. God forbid we actually look at the content before jumping on it like a bunch of baboons. - Schpariel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5http://singlepointnetworks.com/ffext/blockxxx/
- CandidateZero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Holy crap... First I was just unimpressed. Now I'm straight up turned off.
Pay for extensions? Go ***** yourself, MS. - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6no kidding eh? they could have the installation method built into the browser, and then just distribute an add-on package that gets installed and enabled by the browser, but that would be the logical way to do things!
(OT: Microsoft Fiddler sounds like MS's new position for Mark Foley. If you exploit IE7 you'll be getting a visit from the Microsoft Fiddler you little bastard!) - ernasty10050, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5These are all just the IE6 add-ons put on a new webpage.
- mymate, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5this is hilarious almost like theyre trying everything ff has. rock on FF!!!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6This one is great:

Straight from the official blog. - DarkSorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3im surpised there is over 70,000 people paid for that extension
it could be a scam, how could people paid 400 bucks for one simple addons? - Schpariel, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4That page and those "extensions" make IE7 look like a joke.
What should I pay for some ***** extensions when I can get something better for free. - sillywampa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3they may not have paid, a lot of the add-ons could have trial versions so the download total may not reflect actual paying customers.
- noamsml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Many of those add-ons are actually add-ons for IE6. Example: http://tinyurl.com/ybkut5 .
Note that the description does not refer to IE7, even though it specifically refers to other versions of IE, and that neither Windows XP nor Windows Vista are listed as supported operating systems.
I call *****. - RCourtney, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@fartingbob
Actually, this site has been around for quite awhile and it's always been low quantity, low quality, high priced. I remember finding it back when I first installed FireFox because I was curious how IE and Firefox compared in this regard.
The page design and categories were the same back then... so was the limited selection and insanely priced proprietary addons.
Feel free to check some of the "Add-On Reviews" comment dates under some of the add-ons... for example:
"November 24, 2003 By CNET Download.com Editors"
http://www.ieaddons.com/AddOn.aspx?cid=1&scid=59&aid=f6160e34-0bba-43c0-bfb9-b01b49a34026 - motang, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The site is way to cluttered, they need to add more space in between. Mozilla's extension site is designed better, heck even ExtensionsMirror.nl has better design.
- mzwaterski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They may be supplemental programs. I know for a fact that popup blocking is included in IE7 and works like every other popup blocker I've used. I hate form fillers so I can't comment on whether that is included. I don't even know if FF has it...
- CoolWind, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Excellent point. How do we know an IE7 3rd party extension won't include spyware?
- DarkSorrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2you dont need a extension to do that, http://javimoya.com/blog/youtube_en.php
