- topato, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27Emulators are legal. Obtaining a rom or a bios file when you dont acutally have the game/system is illegal. LOL
- Ironman11, on 10/12/2007, -4/+24Always wanted to play some DS games? Here's a novel idea. Buy the flippin' system. You can get a brand new Lite for $130. Throw in a couple of $20-35 games, and you've got a great gaming experience for a reasonable price.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+21When your PSP grows a touchscreen.
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -6/+25Couple notes:
-The ROMs need to be encrypted. Most of the ones you "find" online aren't.
Use this program to encrypt them: http://www.gbadat.altervista.org/gbadat/tools/eNDryptS_v1.1.zip
-You need the DS BIOS files "BIOSNDS7" and "BIOSNDS9" - sleepyness, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18ds roms here

fast (depends on time of day). most working. this isn't spam. :) - mike_p, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22@topato: Everyone can't be as resourceful as you are. You were a n00b at one point as well so try not to ***** on the rest of them.

- MrSidnet, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13People don't want to support video games.
People want to *play* video games. - deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Emulators aren't illegal.
- sark666, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12Just a note, no sound or network yet, but the author said both should be trivial. I was a little disappointed that there isn't a linux version. I thought there was a linux version of no$gba but was confusing it with another gba emu. Anyone ever tried this in wine?
- Zarxrax, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Awesome to see that there is finally a decent emulator out. There are a number of games that I have been wanting to try out, but wasn't sure if they were worth laying down $30-$40 of my hard-earned cash for. Now maybe I'll get a chance to see whether they are worth the investment or not.
- o0joshua0o, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Your lite is still very much worth having. This emulator might be a good way to try out a new game to see if it's worth buying, but it's not going to match the experience of the real deal.
- bennyboy371, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Why do people always consider infringement as the exact same as stealing?
Me keeping your copy of a borrowed movie = stealing
Me borrowing it and then ripping it to my hard drive = infringement
The same goes for all software, such as ROMs. There are always legit uses. One of the best games I've ever played was Seiken Densetsu 3 for SNES, it was never brought to America. I found a translation patch, got it up and running, and spent thirty hours playing it. If a company here bitched and moaned about it, I could've told them to bring me an English copy and I'd gladly pay them for it. This is one use of this software. Other uses would be to run games on a trial basis, as (usually) you can't rent them to see if you enjoy them. Some people just don't intend on buying a system and game altogether. Now, if they play for an extended period of time, thats pushing it considering its a current retail product. However if they only play it for a bit, or if its so outdated you can't pick one up at a local Wal-Mart, have all the fun you want to with it. Thats my view, at least. - tingle, on 10/12/2007, -10/+17The BIOS files are superhard to find. I'm not very good. :(
- tavisjohn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7"You could similarly ask, "Wouldn't playing emulated NES games suck without a controller?"
The answer is, yeah, kinda, but there's still a thriving emu community anyway."
If you are a REAL gamer then you would get one of these USB NES controllers:
http://www.retrousb.com/nintendo.html - breaks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7this software is only useful for developers looking to quickly debug the software they are working on. argue if you will, but that's what this software is really for. development. hooray for innovation and open source software!
nintendo isn't going to lose any sleep over this. stop the !!!!! and save your strokes for pr0n. - Guspaz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's amazing that, despite starting development long after all the existing Nintendo DS emulator projects, this guy is way further ahead of them in completeness.
Keep in mind that the major shortcommings of the emulator (Sound is missing and need a real NDS BIOS for some games) are both temporary things that the author intends to fix. From his documentation, it appears that sound will be easier for him to implement than the replacement for the missing BIOS function, but I'm guessing. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8The window has two screens, and you use the mouse as a stylus. Duh.
- grendel20, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I hate when people say "Oh, make sure you own the original copies first!! :wink wink:"......
I can't properly articulate the thought........ if you wanna support video games, buy the games. - richardiscool, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I tried:
Super Mario 64 - Froze on Nintendo splash
Big Brain Academy - Says "ROM Crashed"
Warioware Touched - Get through the menus then gives a "gx error"
Mario Kart DS - Rom Crashed again. - Naqaj, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9@topato no, they are LOL not: http://www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jsp#copy_illegal
I wonder how much more quotes from this site we can get? - Remmy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There are many DS emulators that are at about the same stage currently. Most of them emulate the BIOS files however making it less of a hassle. NoCa$h plays a few DS games at full speed such as Robots.
DarkFader's work can be seen in all DS emulators. Without him, (And the Nitro DevKit), this wouldn't be possible at all. It's taken a year to get to this point and I for one am pretty darn impressed. - TheChaosMind, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why would you need an emulator to watch movies and listen to music?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Damn, New Mario doesn't boot. Tried Crash bandicoot and it wouldn't boot either. Both just give a blank screen. Need for Speed worked but crashed when it was looking for a profile. So it seems this thing still has quite a ways to go.
- damentz, on 10/12/2007, -7/+11That site has hotlink protection, go to http://www.gbadat.altervista.org/tools.htm and download it from his link, you need a referrer saying you are from his site.
- heysuburbia, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6For 109$ you can play all of your "backup" DS games on an ACTUAL DS:

- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Never say that without trying it in Wine. You'd be surprised at some of the things Wine can run at 100% of the performance of Windows.
- dext3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3i use various DS emulators to test out my homebrew code...
..and yes i bought a DS and all my games. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5got the rom NEW MARIO got the EMU got the BIOS files.
poof CRASH
oh well - stumpadoodle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Don't you know anything about Emulation? It take a whole lot of processing power, ram, etc. to pull it off because essentially, you're recreating the hardware of a system in software. The PSP will never be able to play DS games because it doesn't have nearly enough power to do so, no matter how far the scene develops.
- Thujone, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9@topato
go ahead and paste the google search you used then. Otherwise your rant has no weight to it at all. - Travelsonic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Naqaj,
"@topato no, they are LOL not: http://www.nintendo.com/corp/legal.jsp#copy_illegal"
Nintendo is not the law. Nintendo has been debunked (I don't know the exact site that did a comprehensioe job of this) - factually speaking. Legally, rom dumpers are not illegal. They can be used illegaly but that doesn't make them illegal. Emulators are not illegal unless they distribute the bios illegaly, use the bios built in, or come bundled with illegal roms. - Zettabyte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3*cough**cough* Limewire *cough**cough*
- Roger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@birkoph
Did you remember to encrypt it first? All (?) games crash unless you encrypt them. Even so, there's no guarantee they're playable. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Need for Speed probably crashed because this emulator hasn't emulated the ***** function yet.
- DeusGear, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5So how do you plan to emulate the touch pad on one screen?
- drakonite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Nintendo.com is not exactly the most accurate and unbiased place to be checking the law regarding rom images...
Depending where you live of course, dumping a rom image yourself should be considered 'fair use', but with the laws big corporations and cartels (i.e. the RIAA) have boughten lately it's hard to tell what the letter of the law says anymore. So many of them are unconstitutional anyways. - Roger, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4How exactly do you think they'll catch you?
- Travelsonic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4First emulators are not illegal... that was covered. The posession of bios you illegally obtained is.
Second, don't leave out (right away, or ever for that matter) the possibility of homebrew.
and 3,
don't EVER use the phrase "illegal" and the word "stealing" in the same sentence with copyright related matter. You were talking legalities, it is copyright infringement. The explination has been re-hashed too many times to repeat again. You can morally think it like stealing, but don't mix legalities where it isn't, and moralities where you or other people can think iti s. - KevlarRelic, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Um, no sound?
Sound is kind of big deal to me, I like to hear sound in my video games, playing without sound is only just half the experience.
Of course this is a handheld that we are talking about, the sound shouldn't be that amazing anyways, but, um, sound.
Sounds like I managed to fit the word "sound" into this comment 7 TIMES! I win. - Naqaj, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4and the battery still sucks ;)
