- a99tandem, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Excellent tool... too bad most of the thumbs you'll see will say "Bandwidth limit exceeded."
- TechHerder, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6
This update fixes a lot of the problems people were having with the first release. Weighing in at under 8kb this Firefox extension will make digg much more interesting to navigate.
We also went the extra mile and got this release approved posted on mozilla addons for the few folks who were paranoid to install from our domain http://www.webshotspro.com
We hope you enjoy this no strings attached version of Digg Thumbs. Please let us know is there is anything we can do to make this service more useful to you. - Schrade, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4falcon707,
It works just fine in Firefox 2.0b2 (and 2.0 branch nightlies) just use MR Tech Local Install or Nightly Tester Tools extensions to override the maxVersion in the .xpi. (The current maxVersion in it is 1.5.0.*) - TechHerder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3We have 4 servers running this website. I think we'll be ok for a while.
- SeriouslyButNo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Very nice!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3not to offend the makers, but what is the point of seeing a thumbnail of the page? you can't read the article or anything, the only thing you can really make out is the sites layout.
- sahaskatta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I just tested it out and this extension works amazingly well.
However I do wish that the digg developers would intergate this type of feature within digg so that the digg servers would automatically visit a webpage before it hits the digg homepage and generate it a thumbnail - falcon707, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4No support for Beta 2... dang!
- ba747heavy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No Beta 2 support, no Digg. Too bad, it looks pretty good.
- TechHerder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2There were some issues with the images causing text to wrap on digg postings with short descriptions, so we set a minimum height for each digg listing to compensate for the problem.
- TROGDOR42, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2artofwar420, I think we have an opening for you in my block list. Come on in!
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You could use to not waste time looking at spam links.
- TechHerder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Also worth mentioning, at the jpeg quality we have set, each thumb is only 1-3kb. Unless there are some really hardcore diggers out there, A single user is unlikely to use more than a few megs of bandwidth in a week.
We have also developed a PHP script that can be installed on any web server which would turn it into a screenshot cache server. I can order a server from EV1Servers.net and within 5 minutes we can have another dedicated box serving up screenshots... Point is, we built this system to scale and can just keep adding resources as we need them. Whether or not it is financially responsible to invest more $ for servers into this free service is debatable. - TechHerder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If your still having problems, please uninstall the original release and install this one. Since it is now downloading from Mozilla Addons, future revisions will be updated through the standard 'Find Updates' button in the Firefox extensions panel
- theRIAA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1it makes the spacing between the posts bigger?!!?
- aussieaubs, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3yeah increase your bandwidth and show the image of the website before the site goes down :)
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Don't press the show comment button just be glad that you don't have to see the above comment.
Please don't do make stupid comments on digg. - TechHerder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yes Schrade, it should work fine for just about any recent version of Firefox. When all is said and done, that XPI is just some javascript code that should work in any browser.
Speaking of other browsers, does anyone know how we could go about releasing a Digg Thumbs for Internet Explorer? I have no experience creating addons for IE, but I'm guessing it wouldn't be hard to implement the same Javascript as a BHO (Browser Helper Object)?
Any MS programmers around? Contact me: webshotspro@gmail.com - h4lofourt33n, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I actually, and completely subconciously said "I dig this." It must be cool.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Is anyone else forced to succumb to the urge to say "No Reg Req" out loud every time you see the title of this article?
- scott1, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I think you have to download the older version first and then the new version.
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/3340/history - TheVetos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I got a an error "Download Error"
anyone else? - Sammy20, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Pointless plugin. Just click the dam link, and close it if you dont like it.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1With such a high quality post, I have personally found clicking the link to be nothing short of irresistable
- JEmerson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Especially since everyone using this will be esentially downloading every single link on digg, whether they'd visit it or not. That could create a 'huge' extra load on sites if it became popular. Well, unless there's some cool p2p aspect to the plugin.
- i440, on 10/12/2007, -11/+2Seeing that it is a Firefox extension, memory limits will soon also be exceeded on personal computers everywhere
- artofwar420, on 10/12/2007, -25/+1Be cool , be cool be cool motherfuka be cool. GO to this sit eto trearn vreee gberer!! GSFBEEER!! TEYS and get afer hoem euquity loan WOOT.11111 BURY ME BURY not1!!! http://beer.com
