- koodough, on 02/05/2009, -1/+62I don't get that. I already had full screen on my Mac 2.7 Skype
- jmbrysk, on 02/06/2009, -1/+54This has always been a feature. Don't link tech stories from the telegraph.
- Adam420, on 02/06/2009, -0/+36I'll be happy when they add multiple person video chat.
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -3/+34New Skype 4.0 with full fledged NSA wiretap right into your video calls.
- alexsk8ca, on 02/06/2009, -2/+23Yeah I have been doing this for months, but I also have a Mac. Could you not do this on Windows?
- depro9, on 02/06/2009, -0/+18I have full screen in Linux.
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -1/+17I will care when they spend some time fixing the Linux version. out of the 3 webcams I own, all of which work fine with other webcam programs in Linux, only my old one from 2002 works with skype. This is why I hate closed-source software. Because Skype is closed source, the only people who can fix skype are the people who make it. Because their protocols are closed, the only program I can use to communicate with Skype accounts, is Skype.
- Dotcommer, on 02/06/2009, -3/+18hey skype! You know what'd be really awesome? If you'd ***** give us video conferencing. -_-
- harisund, on 02/06/2009, -1/+12"Uhhh my girlfriend"
Really? - get2knowjb, on 02/06/2009, -0/+10I know, and the new beta has screen sharing between users for mac, any word if that is available for pc?
- jacekmeuk, on 02/06/2009, -0/+9Yes, older Windows versions also works fine in full screen mode.
- tjex, on 02/06/2009, -0/+9Have you seen the beta? No thx, I like Skype the way it is. Why mess with something that works well?

FTW, it's THE WHOLE application that is going full screen, not video (which already can go full screen) - hdberk, on 02/06/2009, -2/+11Same here, and it has always been stable. Never a dropped conversation like iChat does.
- depro9, on 02/06/2009, -0/+8I have the same problem. Hope Google buys Skype soon. Free the code, free the world.
- shotgunefx, on 02/06/2009, -0/+8I maybe be wrong, but last time I looked, nothing had encryption for the video. A girlfriend was going to LA for an extended period and we wanted to be able to have some, um, privacy.
VLC over SSH tunnels FTW. Actually, only partially true. We ditched the audio and just used cells. Actually some other cool uses. We could pop in a DVD and stream it together too. Really helped make the distance a little shorter. - awhiteflame, on 02/06/2009, -0/+8No, he was talking about shredding collages in full-screen video. Duh.
- Rhendal, on 02/06/2009, -4/+11Uhhh my girlfriend and I have been using Skype to talk a lot (she's out of state in college). She has a PC, I have a Mac. We can both full screen already.
- EmperorChow, on 02/06/2009, -0/+7you seriously think apple will allow that?
- phybere, on 02/06/2009, -2/+8No one mentioning that the new UI blows...
- 3arth, on 02/06/2009, -0/+6OK, not only does 4.0 completely suck, but I just full-screened with the new version, and the video is actually SMALLER than the 3.x full-screen (cuts off at the ends). can someone please shed some light on what the hell they are thinking?
- roxgod666, on 02/06/2009, -0/+5I'm pretty sure i saw this option on my Skype.
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -2/+7While Google has been nice with Chrome, Android, and Gears, their track record isn't quite so good with other desktop applications. Google Talk, Picasa, and Sketchup are all still closed source.
- jason210, on 02/06/2009, -2/+7let her go man.
- jascination, on 02/06/2009, -0/+5I've been using full screen video calls on Skype for Windows since last August (didn't have skype before then, but it's definitely been a feature for a while now on both platforms)
- Clark, on 02/06/2009, -1/+5Oh...,
Lovely.
There -still- isn't a legitimate skype client for the iPhone yet.
I'm done waiting, where the hell is it?! - dysfunction208, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4Now i can talk to my dad in Norway.
- innovati, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4um.....how is this done? tutorial somewhere?
- janformanek, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4Dudes, we have had this for three/four years now
- Aeyar, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4college*
- supermanKD, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4I took this comment off the link you gave me. he obviously responding to the same complaint. I still agree with you partly I hope they actually leave an option for a smaller form factor. I think the problem could be solved easily with a widget or the windows equivalent(gadget I think).
"Hi Johan
Thanks for taking the time to leave a comment – although if you feel strongly about the changes we’ve made please take a bit of time to give us your feedback in a structured way (the link is http://www.skype.com/go/betafeedback%29 – this will make it easier for us to understand everyone’s feelings overall and therefore to act on them.
Although the beta does start up in full screen, it is possible to resize the window, although not down to the size of Skype 3.8. This is because we’ve tried really hard to help people juggle lots of conversations all at once. It's now all in one window. Take a look at the Conversations button just above the Contact list. It's a list of all the conversations you've got going on. Just click between them to pick up a conversation right where you left off. You can also pop your conversations out into separate windows if you prefer having different windows for different conversations. Take a look at the top right corner next to (+ Add People) and that icon should help you out a bit.
We realise that some people will prefer to have a smaller contact list only window and we will be addressing this by the time 4.0 comes out of beta. We would, however, like you to encourage you to stick with the full window for a while so we can get feedback on this new style of working with Skype (we think most people will prefer it having got used to it – we certainly do).
Thanks again, and I assure you we will be making changes based on the feedback we receive." - waspbr, on 02/06/2009, -0/+4congrats dude, you have managed to do the impossible, you have made college lesbian sex sound creepy
- Betrayal, on 02/06/2009, -1/+5Yeah Skype what's going on with the Skype iPhone App???!
Can't believe it's still not on there. - stuffradio, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3It's called Jailbreaking your iPhone. There is a Fring app in the iPhone app store right now, this lets you use different services like Skype... but if you want to call with 3G then you need to jailbreak.
- innovati, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3for now
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3Pop in a DVD and watch it together over the web? That's crazy
- SuccessPerson, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3I think they mean to have better quality on the video and the voice. In windows we can also see in full screen but not so clear...
- shotgunefx, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3@GordonFree: yes file sharing is easy. But it was convenient to be able to pop in a dvd without ripping it and trying to get it to her massive files. And since we are watching the same stream (and on the phone) it was pretty much in sync. Obviously a slight delay to go 6000 miles but not much at all.
@innovati: No tutorial, I meant to write one. It was further complicated by her NAT at work. Normally you would just start streaming to each other (and receiving on different ports) using two copies of VLC. IIRC correctly nothing normally stops you from using SSL. Pretty simple affair.
But due to the NAT, I had to use SSH to tunnel her (waiting for the puns) to a local port on my own machine to bypass the it. It also provided the encryption so I just skipped the HTTPS. It was about 2 years ago so the nuances are a little foggy. I should see if I can dig up my notes and get around to the howto as it did take a lot of googling and a lot of trial and error to work. You could use the audio, but there is a second or two of lag depending on your connection and what you set for the buffers. Compared to the normal ichat stuff probably would seem a bit clunky but I didn't have to worry about prying eyes which was more important. Also, you can save streams locally ;) - drex8, on 02/06/2009, -0/+3Exactly. Next we'll see being reported on the telegraph that the Skype founders have started an internet video service called Joost.
- inactive, on 02/06/2009, -1/+3does the audio still go in and out like crazy?
- X86BSD, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2ZFone works fine with Audio AND Video on iChat.
- andrew522, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2get Fring.
you can login and chat on skype over wifi. - r00fus, on 02/06/2009, -1/+3I don't care... all we use skype vcalls for is for my daughter to see her grandparents. If they increase the quality, I'm downloading v4.
besides, Skype is closed-source... what do you expect. If you want secure comms that you know is secure, run pidgin with the OTA security plugin. - sus3k, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2Last I knew I was able to go full screen before 4.0. I don't really care for what they did with the new interface.
I would like to see a tabbed chat window similar to what you would see in pidgin or digsby. - jason210, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2i used it full screen. it didn;t like the effects much but it worked.
- andrew522, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2worked for me.
what never works is VNC on the iphone. - Urgo, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2Skype has been doing full screen video calls for YEARS. The 3.x product line and probably even before that supported full screen video. Why is this news?
- Juntistik, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2who?
- link2009, on 02/06/2009, -0/+2@innovati:
I believe it's called streaming a DVD over the internet...VLC has streaming features enabled so you can stream a DVD over the 'net and technically...watch it with someone else. - shotgunefx, on 02/06/2009, -0/+1@X86BSD: Yeah I saw that but in Summer of 06, I don't think it supported the encryption of video yet or maybe it was a platform issue. Pretty sure it was video wasn't supported yet, but whatever it was I remember it was scheduled to be included right about the time the stint ended.
- sicilian890, on 02/06/2009, -1/+2Seriously teachers...
