New Digsby Update Integrates Facebook Chat

blog.digsby.com — With Build 14688, Digsby now integrates Facebook Chat (among all other major IM services). Digsby is starting to become a strong contender with Pidgin.

    And Kudos to the Digsby people for their UI work. I ended up dropping Pidgin because it just didn't seem important to them. I don't mean the colors, I mean the layouts, usage of screen real estate, overall aesthetic.

  • Scipio, on 05/02/2008, -0/+3Digsby has replaced Trillian and Pidgin for me. It is now my main chat app.
  • zplot, on 05/02/2008, -0/+2This update finally makes Digsby a competitive product. Before this, features like Facebook updates could be added to Trillian or Pidgin by grabbing one of their RSS news plugins and adding the right feeds (a bit trickier to implement than when setting this up in Digsby, but feasible to get the same features on othes clients). Knowing how to add those features to Trillian and Pidgin made Digsby just look like a less memory efficient IM client to me. However, only Digsby figured out how to get Facebook chat.

    If Facebook chat opens up to jabber, however, then Digsby might not have too much on which to differentiate itself.
