- saikhan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+84I predict a massive off-topic browser war.
- growlzor, on 10/12/2007, -11/+75Opera and Firefox are so lame, I use Internet Explorer and windows pop up giving away all kinds of free stuff!
- estvir, on 10/12/2007, -6/+56> But opera has no tabs. IT's worster than IE 6(my fav).
Opera has tabs.
IE6 is your favourite ?
You have issues, many of them. I suspect you were beaten as a child as how else could someone claim Opera doesn't have tabs and that IE6 is their favourite browser (Especially when there is FF, Opera and IE7).
Actually, I'm hoping you were being sarcastic, for your own good. - metaknite, on 10/12/2007, -5/+50I shall die for Opera!
- battousaix, on 10/12/2007, -13/+54Opera is the ONLY browser I enjoy using :) .... I'm using it right now :P
- dany36, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42I'm guessing you haven't used Opera.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+39Hrm... Opera is faster in Linux for me...
- RobototoboR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+33Wasn't Opera one of the first browsers to implement tabbed browsing?
- agrabob, on 10/12/2007, -10/+40Opera user since v4. Man have the Norwegians come a long way.
I will make note though:
Opera is faster than Firefox in Windows; however, Firefox is faster on Linux. - muka3d, on 10/12/2007, -2/+27All I have to say is Right-Click + Scroll Wheel. Let's see Firefox do THAT without added bloat.
Opera users, you know what I'm talking about... :) - agrabob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24ITS NOT TABS PPL!!!!
Opera is true MDI(multiple document interface). You'll notice you can resize, tile, cascade, and minimize "tabs" in Opera much the same that you would with applications in any OS's GUI. This is one feature that I love about Opera. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25Opera doesn't need all those plugins, it already does everything. On top of that, Opera comes with so many more features than firefox, yet it still runs faster and takes up less memeory than firefox.
- TokenUser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17Which just goes to show how many people call themselves "web developers", and cant code a standards compliant web page if it killed them ...
OR purposefully put code into pages to check for Opera, then say it isn't compatible, and you need to upgrade to Firefox or IE5. - TheDA, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18OK for all the people that keep saying Opera is worse in rendering should take a look at this
http://www.webstandards.org/action/acid2/
I'm sure many have heard of it but what the heck - thechitowncubs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19norweigians ftw!!
- kikkomang, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15How many end users have heard of Linux? Windows must be the best by your logic.
- 8ight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14damn, thanks muka. opera fan and user since '98 and i've never known that. pathetic i'm sure.
- 3apo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13Built in...right click on any page and say BLOCK CONTENT
- Alchemeron, on 10/12/2007, -5/+17You're kidding, right? Each update just brings Firefox closer to the way Opera does things.
- karamba_kid, on 10/12/2007, -12/+24Opera was the first browser to have tabs I believe. Oh I didn't catch the /sarc but anyways...go firefox!
- shlemielo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12Opera = the best for one-handed browsing
- HigherLogic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12It's funny to see the Firefox fans getting a dose of the same fanboism (or would that be fanboyism) that's constantly being thrown around by them towards other "inferior" browsers and their justifications for why it is so. I'm glad I don't see "Get Opera" or all of the other ***** that seems to come with Firefox (and glad Google isn't sleeping with Opera either).
Actually _use_ Opera for a week or so and you'll understand what makes it such a wonderful, bloat-, memory-hogging-free browser with just the right amount of features.
Also, from a designer's perspective, their zoom-in/zoom-out is outstanding, why don't all browsers zoom-in the ENTIRE page instead of just the text?
/me is using Opera, as if you couldn't tell... - Szandor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13...and Firefox fails.
- rmccabe916, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Another thing about the tab-scrolling feature:
1.) Go to opera:config in the address bar and search for "thumbnail" on the page that shows up.
2.) Check "Use Thumbnails in Window Cycle." Now go and scroll through your tabs again.
3.) Enjoy more of Opera's built-in sweetness. :D - m4v1s, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13justify your claim
- agrabob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13Wikipedia definition: "A web browser is a software application that enables a user to display and interact with text, images, and other information typically located on a web page at a website on the World Wide Web or a local area network."
So, Opera, Firefixo, Safari, Konquerer, and even the lowly IE fit the definition. - worbd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Her name is Oprah.
- omarciddo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Thank you for not turning this browser debate into your own forum for conspiracy theories.
- emceepecks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Yes, you are.
- omarciddo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The amount of people aware of a product says absolutely nothing about how good it is. Yes, Firefox is a fine browser but just because Opera isn't as well known doesn't mean that it is of lesser quality.
- omarciddo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Did you even bother playing around with the UI? It's easy enough to get to the appearance settings. Just press SHIFT+F12.
- donkeycrock, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13For the Arguers...
WHO CARES what browser you use, use what you like and don't what you don't. is this really a necessary argument? They both work. - rockphotog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3How about me? I LIVE in the buildning seen in the background of Opera :-)
http://operawatch.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=426 - coredump0x01, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Opera is faster on Linux, but sometimes it crashes hard on digg pages with 600+ comments. Firefox will render it (albeit slow) but it does work. Konqueror neither crashes, nor runs slow on massively commented pages. Also i've seen Opera fail after a while of watching youtube and the like.
- karamba_kid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7True, but I can go from / to google in the same window (with konqueror) or from file:/// to google in the same window (in firefox).
- murty, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6hmm... weird how duggmirror only picks up the layout, not the actual text part of it
- CosminBurner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Nice article and pictures. I've been using Opera since Opera 5 and been with it ever since. It's the only way I like to surf the Web. I also have other browsers on my computer: IE 6, Firefox, SeaMonkey, Maxthon, Flock and Netscape, as I'm into web design and like to test my pages in as many browsers as I can and I'm also on the lookout for better ones. Guess what. Till now, I am yet to find a better browser than Opera.
IE is simple and easy to use (and that's a plus for the noobs), but it's old and unsafe. Firefox is a very good browser, but a little under Opera. I use at as my backup browser. And man it's awesome on Linux. I also like Safari, but since I'm not using Linux at the moment, don't have it on my PC. However, I'll soon reinstall SuSE and Safari will be back.
Please stop this stupid browser war! Just read some articles, people! You'll see you better get rid of IE 6 and switch to Opera, Firefox or other good browser. Of course I'd recommend Opera, but that's just me. Think! That's what I'm trying to say. Your PC's safety and web enjoyment is at stake with an old an poorly designed browser. - tamster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Nice one - http://operawatch.com/gallery/main.php?g2_itemId=486
- geekitechture, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3"hmm... weird how duggmirror only picks up the layout, not the actual text part of it"
Weird how the site just displays the text, but not the actual picture part of it...the dude promised us pictures...where are they? When a digg submitter says "with pics" that generally means I don't have to click a ***** link to look at any of the pictures, much less all of them. Needless to say, since I already believe both Opera and Firefox are great browsers (what a pacifist I'm being at the moment...I must be going soft) I did not read the article because I was pissed at the lack of visible pictures. Better luck next time, treego. - Stryder81, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3- You're mother is a fag
I've been using Opera now for a little over 2 weeks and have learned to love it
I was using Firefox but I'll break it down quickly how I see them.
Firefox - Great if you have a Dual Core Processor, The memory leak was getting annoying on my amd 2.6
Opera is sleek, smart, convenient and definitely faster and renders pages alot better than Firefox.
So if you're like me with a 250GB HD & With a single core processor ( or around there ) with a cable modem, Go for Opera. - geekitechture, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2edit: HigherLogic beat me to it, with almost the same response.
Huh? Op-er-a sounds the same as O-prah?
They don't sound the same, the problem is you have dyslexia.
Opera LOOKS the same as Oprah when your mind is flipping letters around. I have dyslexia too, so don't lie. - nandabanaotakun, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3...and Safari passes.
- TobbisBlog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Opera is still the best webbrowser :D
unfortunately OperaWatch is down :( - Szandor, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Go ***** yourself, logicallygenius.
- gaervern, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Let Opera pretend to be IE and see who the culprit is!
- CosminBurner, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sorry, I was in a hurry and wrote "Safari" instead of "Konqueror". Of course I was referring to Konqueror, as Safari is for OS X. :)
- HigherLogic, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How in the hell does OP-RUH (or OP-ER-UH) sound like OPE-RUH?
- masihaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0yes &it's not even a plug in! it comes within the opera & it's called "block content". you can block any content you wish, just by a simple right click!
- Flyfishing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Minefield (FF 3.0 alpha) passes.
- masihaa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Opera's great! It redefines your web experience; I know that sounded like a silly advertising tagline, but if you've used it just for 2 weeks, you'll understand!
Tab browsing, mouse gestures, opera speak, "paste & go" option, presentation mode, author/user mode, "no image" & "cached images" button, zooming, transfer window (which easily beats firefox's download window), saving sessions, feed manager, torrent manager...what else do you want a browser to do?
unfortunately, there's only one giant problem. opera's not so Google-compatible; not as much as firefox & even IE. google toolbar doesn't have an opera version. nor does the google browsersync & google notepad extensions & this is why right now, I have to use firefox...oh God! I miss those beautiful handy mouse gestures! -
