- suxmonkey, on 10/10/2007, -1/+90Campus edition? Does it come with 'porn' and 'beer' buttons? Otherwise: not interested.
- bryan4, on 10/10/2007, -4/+58Adding stumpleUpon is stupid. Thats like adding digg, youtube or facebook...all are complete distractions when trying to get work done. I wish this "campus" edition was less of a marketing gimmick and more of an actual study tool.
- BLyn, on 10/10/2007, -1/+31is it really that hard to download a few add-ons?
- trendplex, on 10/10/2007, -2/+18The Campus Edition will be ready for download sometime later today.
Direct link to page: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/add-ons/campus/ - cgomez, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16Am I the only that thinks this is pretty pointless? Why not just work on making Firefox better. Geez.
- gungaroo22, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Have you seen most college students? They aren't THAT bright.
The people that don't use IE barely know of all the advantages that Firefox has, like add-ons. - nonnald, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14if you're looking for ***** browsers there's always IE
- lazyrussian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13Digg me down, I clicked on trendplex's link and thought it was the actual digg link.
/stupid - forteller, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Did anyone else notice the [Via Digg] at the bottom of that article..? Would that be what you would call a recursive article?
http://www.digg.com/software/Firefox_Campus_Edition_Launching_Today - mc7winkie, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13A blog with a link to a digg story with a link to another blog? Redundancy is great isn't it?
- fadeout, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11Let me guess.. the campus addition just removes the porn from you browser history? :P
- sam98597, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8StumbleUpon is great for research. Just use its search function and type in some keywords. Use it all the time.
- ngmcs8203, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Add to that a torrent and caffeine drip system.
- trunkster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7And that article is from two days ago... don't hold your breath that it will be available today.
- netzdamon, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8I love you Firefox but this is very lame. Feels like a bad marketing attempt.
- lazyrussian, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8What's so speical about this verison and why is it necessary. The page this article links to doesn't tell me anything (except to wait).
- cmilki, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6Disclaimer : I'm a fanatical user of Clipmarks
Clipmarks isn't that bad for organising information. Think of it as an online version of scrapbook (yes you can keep your "clips" private).
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1407 - antifreze, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5yeah, bundle an OS with a browser... that won't confuse anyone...
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4What does it do automatically enter "teacher edition solution manual" into all Google searches?
- debuggercll, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5*Chlamydia not included
- Damienk, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5dont be such a playa hater
- Foxsnipe, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6What do you think University/College is? Where do you go to get educated?
To point: Universities very often have "schools" for different majors. - kennywinker, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Campus edition huh? So is erowid the browser's default homepage?
- amoore260, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Great the fox's hands are tied and it has wings. "Napoleon, whats your favorite animal?" "A falconox"
- GfunkGbuss, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Yeah, nothing like some canned water.
- tomgibbons, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3I used to use Clipmarks a lot. It's great. But now Websense have decided that it's bad and block clipmarks.com. Rendering the extension useless for me at work.
- fowleryo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4well aren't you a special little snowflake
- DCstewieG, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3Tell them about Camino.
- fowleryo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4yes, redundancy Is great.
- svivian, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3And there was me thinking Uni students were actually smart enough to look stuff up themselves if they want something. Guess I was wrong.
- monofonik, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3does anyone actually use zotero? from what it seems, it only saves the citations for web sources, which are useless in the eyes of most profs i've had. maybe i'm oldschool digging through article index card files and taking notes in a mead composition book.
- sexybobo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2what add-on takes a huge amount of time to install. i usually have all the add ons i use installed in about 2 minutes. (adblock plus, grease monkey, firebug, download them all) the only thing that takes any time or i have trouble with is finding all the grease monkey scripts i use.
- stillfocus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I wonder is the startup page is collegehumor?
- cklol, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Does it work faster on OSX (rhetorical question)? I know a lot of my friends don't use Firefox on their Macs because.. well, it sucks... and I have a LOT of friends with Macs.
- Kratos76, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2damn dude! Even the MS Fanboys use Firefox! What's your deal?
- gungaroo22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I'm surprised that it took them this long to release it after announcement. Shouldn't it just be *package & host* ?
- Rileyper, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2How bout NO!!!
- Asdfglpwglion, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Are you from the UK? They use some words differently in the US.
- o2pb, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Firefox is the definition of "bad code". 500mb+ memory usage at the end of EVERY work day. It crawls.
- sammy22b06, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2why?
- kahrn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The fact you are in love with a browser and you're talking to it as if it's a person seems more lame.
- mc7winkie, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Now that's just redundant. :P
- marcz, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Perhaps add a built in messenger application or addon. Otherwise totally useless.
- cmilki, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Me?
If you're alluding that "Clipmarks" is foreign or anything (which many sites claim) it's based in New York. - Atomic1fire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1No that wasn't an anti firefox comment
Its called asking a question
the only one I could find was this and ebay edition - knetworx, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1That's funny, everybody that tried to use Safari on PCs said that it sucks.
- DevlinD, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Not that I am saying that Mozilla actually listened to me but this is exactly what I wrote about in a comment in a previous Digg story about Mozilla needing to penetrate schools in order boost its number of active users (by providing packaged versions of Firefox) since they claim that about 70% of downloads don't convert into active users.
You're getting there Mozilla but you really have to hit them younger when they are most impressionable. Sounds like an evil thing to say I know :P - anaesthetica, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2The marketing department of Mozilla Corp is not a bunch of coders that can just be transferred to write patches when they're not consumed by their regular duties. Branding a Campus Edition is not a bad idea, and probably took about 5 minutes to put together. Chill out.
- Tanath, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Sometimes.
- zammit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1break; // there its not recursive anymore
