- mjpatey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+63Great news! Installation and removal of Extensions without a restart... been wishing for that for a long time.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+33Its your PC.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26More importantly I think is ACID2 100% pass, plus better CSS3 support.
Mozilla should choose some of the top plugins and make different download packages of Firefox, like one for Web Developers (that would have Web Dev, Colorzilla, MeasureIt, and Firebug), one for RSS junkies, etc. - somekids, on 10/12/2007, -1/+24They should put in an actual download manager instead that supports resume of partial downloads, instead of the essentially useless one they include now.
- arunforce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+17I've told them before, but I always wanted hierarchical history. I'd actually be able to keep track of what sites linked me to where.
I think someone made an extension, but it needed SQL or something, and wasn't for version 2.0. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Umm... mousewheel...
- TeagueSterling, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11There is actually a Firefox Add-on for that. http://grabanddrag.mozdev.org/index.html I believe.
- sexycommando, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11Die.
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14A garbage collector is already in Alpha 2. They just need to integrate it into all the services that are likely to leak.
Its not as if its one gigantic leak and the developers are turning a blind eye to it. C requires a lot of responsibility and memory leaks are hard to find, but they are being fixed whenever they are found.
Besides, its nowhere near as bad as what it is in 1.5. Maybe you should use the trunk and get your facts straight before spouting the memory leak problem at any mention of the word Firefox. Its not really a problem anymore in trunk. - iofthestorm, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9"Hell, it surpassed IE in functionality in just 1 version, which took 7 versions for IE to reach (spanning years and years) and it still can't touch Firefox (or Opera either)."
Uh, you're completely ignoring the entire history of Netscape and the mozilla project before Firefox. Firefox did not come out of a void, it inherited its codebase from a very good browser. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8They are making an effort to control the memory leaks. Keep in mind Firefox is still a very early effort for a new browser. Hell, it surpassed IE in functionality in just 1 version, which took 7 versions for IE to reach (spanning years and years) and it still can't touch Firefox (or Opera either).
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Why am I being dugg down? Its the truth, there a garbage collector in Alpha 2. Why do the Firefox haters have their fingers in their ears? The memory leaks are almost gone in the trunk and with the garbage collector they'll be even more insignificant.
- zanzzz, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Yep, fix the memory leak please.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8It's definitely your PC... I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.1 and I have no problems. Try removing all of your extensions and see if the problem still persists.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Better eye candy wouldn't hurt. Even with themes it still feels kind of plain. Make the top more customizable with where you can put buttons and menus and stuff.
- dpk87, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7Just make it faster. No need to add features (except to the rendering engine), just improve what is already there.
- fightingirish, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6On the Mac side, the one thing that keeps Firefox from being a true Mac app is its lack of Keychain integration. Sure, Firefox has its own password manager, but Keychain integration allows saving a password in one application (for a website, etc) and using it in another.
Request for Keychain integration is one of the most voted for items in bugzilla but there still is no timeline as to when it will be included. Mozilla's other Gecko-based browser (Camino) already has this feature, so it probably wouldn't be that hard to include in Firefox 3. - NanoStuff, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8You may be confusing bloat for cache. Firefox's memory usage is not due to so called 'bloat' or memory leaks, it's used to cache a large number of pages for faster browsing. Have you noticed that if you reduce your RAM, Firefox 'memory leaks' are magically reduced? Those aren't enchanted memory leaks, it's called scaling.
Sure the browser may and probably does have some memory leaks, no application is perfect, but the two are not interchangeable. It's safe to say the typical memory leak complaint is no memory leak at all. - Vision2098, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4The original Adblock is much worse performance-wise when compared to Adblock Plus, using the same filter list(s). Easily tested on your own.
As well, what's wrong with Adblock Plus compared to the original? I see little difference other than the icons that are on by default, which can certainly be turned off... otherwise it acts the same, and is even faster. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+8You mean the "feature?"
// someone was going to say it... - DurkaMcDurk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8mines only using about 80 mb... maybe you shouldn't download every toolbar and extension available on mozilla.org
- Promantarius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I wish they would make Javascript faster, I can't count the number of times the browser has frozen because it was processing several scripts at once in different tabs. Loading digg is pretty bad for me also these days, though that could be because of an extension (it always seems to freeze at the end.) Speeding that up would be great anyway :)
- Promantarius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3therightclique: Adblock plus blocks all advertisements, like those incredibly annoying flashing images or animations that try and get your attention - the web would be a better place if they didn't exist. It also gives you the ability to block really annoying things like the Myspace music player, various slideshow websites that plague social networking site pages, etc. It's pretty good, all things considered, but it doesn't stop pop-ups.
Also, implementing it into the core of the browser would be a bad idea. The only reason the majority of the available websites can survive is because of advertisements, if everyone suddenly started removing them that'd be bad. It's great for the people that wouldn't click the flashing banners anyway, text advertisements are alright though in my opinion. :) - Promantarius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wrong reply, weird.
- mvent2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2nephilimx, its marked INVALID because there is no information helping them identify the leaks. Had the reporter got some kind of debug information there would be people working on it. But it was too general. There are many, many bugs pertaining to specific leaks and most of them are fixed.
- schmiggyjk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Or you could use scrollbar anywhere.
- Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3A restart button located in convenient places
(I solved the problem for me by using toolbar buttons an extension to get a restart button in a small area of my toolbar for things Ill use once in a while like bookmark manager and about:config)
and an actual button for customize toolbar
(another problem solved but still wanted in the next version)
And an extension to use about:blank for things like bookmarks and whatever else you want there - Veritascitor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2all-in-one gestures has that option as well, using the middle mouse button
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2DownThemAll always bugged me, because I always read it as Down The Mall.
- aboyd, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What? Inlude more features out of the box instead of needing a ton of extensions to bloat it down? Really? So, the solution to someone installing a crap load of extentions and bloating up their browser is to make it bloated by default? Build all those features in? Really? What an awful idea. I like the browser being lean, and I'd like it to be leaner. I have a browser at my office with all the developer junk installed, but my kids have a nearly bare-bones install, and I appreciate that. They got it right.
- ElMoselYEE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3i'm sorry fyberoptic, but i laughed slightly out loud when i read your comment. you should definitely be making the decisions at the FF HQ.
"LISTEN UP GUYS, GENIUS IDEA: to prevent users from slowing down their computer, we're gonna ship FFx PRE-BLOATED. *pause for the effect to sink in* i don't want any shortcuts here, jam EVERYTHING in there that you can. oh and hey Steve can you get me a stopwatch, i wanna time how long it takes for this project to fall to pieces. meeting dismissed."
how about optimizing the browser? packing it full or more ***** just cuz opera does it isn't gonna make anything faster. - Avalonis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2From the posted article :
"There could also be two different themes for Windows XP and Vista environments which after the results of the last visual refresh which attempted to blend with Classic and Luna themes in a single shot, seems like a better idea." - Promantarius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2They make money honey, it's not all out of the goodness of their hearts. That bar at the top where you put in addresses? Every time you type something that isn't an address they get money for referring you to Google. I'm unsure but I think that might happen for the search bar also. Either way, the Mozilla foundation makes a lot of money for distributing a free product...
- Giever, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well, Menu Editor ( https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/710/ ) is helpful in that regard. It helped me trim mine down to all I needed, at least:

Support everything these guys do, always give your input and let the good times roll ;p
- pcabellor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Regarding JavaScript, a new virtual machine (code named Tamarin) is already in the works but won't be ready until Firefox 4: http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2007/02/details-about-tamarin-mozillas-new-javascript-vm/
- joe90210, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3one thing they need to do is making FF on Windows look like an actual Vista app, it feels really weird using it on Vista cause it looks out of place on the OS
- gagan97, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1wat abut a webpage mailer.. last week only a add-on made to front page of digg.. it will much better to add it .. then being a add-on using one more e-mail service..
- mookieXL, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1no one is working on it because there's already extension that does that and much more (segmented downloads, grab all links etc) http://www.downthemall.net
Maybe it should be in FF by default (together with tab mix plus and adblock) - vdog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sites like CVG crash if Noscript blocks them. They need it to run their plugins.
- iofthestorm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Vote for this bug please, although it seems like no one is working on it right now but there are 159 votes, maybe the digg effect can help.
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=230870 - pcabellor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It's actually considered in the current PRD:
"Pause/resume downloads stays, and the use of a separate window for Download Manager is being reconsidered (you can move it today with a simple tweak, http://mozillalinks.org/wp/2007/01/downloads-add-on-sidebars-with-no-extensions/)." - therightclique, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1psst. IE and Netscape have always been free too. don't act like that's a selling point. it ISN'T.
- qwertydvorak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0no middle mouse button or scroll wheel on a trackball.
- kludwick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Aww, how sweet. I love you too!
- Giga, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0You could just use the middle mouse button to "grab" the page, no add-ons needed...
- DiggDagger, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1hahaha. So this time you get "Airbag" instead of TalkBalk when your browser "crashes". Genius.
- squeevey, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7How about lighten the load?
It shouldn't be taking up 200MB of memory. I remember back in the day when FF was light and fast. Now it's bloated.
I'm back to opera. - therightclique, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i've been using firefox 2 for quite a while now and i haven't gotten a SINGLE pop-up ad. i'd say its doing a pretty good job.
- sheepster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2speaking of this,
only in firefox, i had 6 tabs open, then opened another tab that ran a lot of javascript. my comp restarted :-P - i thought it was a memory problem i had, but i can play halo and run winamp at the same time, doesn't phase the comp any...on the other hand, ff causes the comp to restart ONLY in this scenario. :/ -
