- DaviDTC, on 10/01/2008, -3/+38Will apple accept it though?

- bigdoof, on 10/01/2008, -5/+32M$? Really? Are you 12?
- wildfire, on 09/30/2008, -2/+28Due to the recent economic crisis, Microsoft is now known as just MS. Thank you, and remember — save your dollar signs!
- EnderMB, on 10/01/2008, -7/+20Twelve minutes on the front page and we already have a huge list of Apple fanboys complaining about M$ making their wonder phone ***** by supporting it with applications.
Apple fans, grow up. It's 2008, Microsoft aren't nearly as evil as everyone believed them to be and Apple still needs all the help they can get. - battletops, on 10/01/2008, -0/+12No different than developing Office for Mac. I don't think that developing Office for OS X takes away from XP, and I don't think that developing this app will take away from Windows Mobile.
Microsoft is a software company. This is what they do to make money. - sockpuppets, on 10/01/2008, -1/+12Tellme is awesome, I've thrown so many things at it and it always understands me.
You complete me, tellme. - inactive, on 10/01/2008, -0/+9"$" only works with "$cientology"
- m0zzie, on 10/01/2008, -3/+12interesting that MS are developing for the iPhone.. i would've thought they'd steer away from it a little, due to Windows Mobile - although i'm sure they have their reasons for doing this.. still curious as to why though.. anyone?

- MikeSD34, on 10/01/2008, -1/+9It's for their search division, which is separate from their OS division. Keep in mind though that they also develop for other platforms, IE (now discontinued) for the Mac, Microsoft Office for the Mac, Remote Desktop for the Mac, MSN Messenger for the Mac, Virtual PC, Windows Media Player, the list goes on. If you went into their offices, somewhere, you would find a large room chock filled with Mac hardware for testing purposes. It's not all that surprising. It lets them keep some of the monopoly claims at bay, and broadens their market (diversification isn't a bad thing).
- PhillyMJS, on 10/01/2008, -0/+7All I have to say to this news is, "Dear aunt, let's set so double the killer delete select all!"
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -1/+6Probably seeing the phone supports exchange...
- jayoh, on 10/01/2008, -0/+5you make some decent points, but totally come off as a douche. cheers!
- megamod, on 10/01/2008, -1/+5NO! it "duplicates" Google maps functionality.
- dsgamer, on 10/01/2008, -0/+4why would you?
im sorry. - Wang, on 10/01/2008, -1/+5I guess iCopy wins then? http://gizmodo.com/366607/copy-and-paste-on-your-i ...
- sid007i, on 10/01/2008, -0/+3Microsoft Application on Apple iPhone featured on Yahoo! Wheres Google?
- EtherGnat, on 10/01/2008, -1/+4Microsoft is one of the largest developers of Mac software, it's no surprise they'd make software for the iPhone. Their voice recognition software for mobile devices is pretty good, too.
- friday04, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Oh man are you kidding? Apple would love nothing more than having a Microsoft application on the iPhone. It's all about legitimacy.
- fLUx1337, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2Woah, calm down young man, and go ask mummy for your medication!
- Atomic1fire, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2for both companies,
Apple gets some software from a popular company
Microsoft gets some space in a different market. as well as the SEE I'M NOT ANTI COMPETITIVE statement. - GothAlice, on 10/01/2008, -0/+2@jayoh: Success! (Even I dug your comment up.)
Because people are ill-informed morons who really ought to be better informed!
;^) - aserer511, on 10/01/2008, -2/+4Microsoft: making your apple product useful (even the biggest mac fan boys have Office for mac!) since
- MattBD, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Voice recognition on Macs really sucks. I spent ages shouting "Computer, hello!" at it - it genuinely was like in The IT Crowd where Roy tells Denholm that he's installed voice recognition software on his computer, and he's still there late at night shouting at it!
- andycr512, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1When I say "Start Firefox", Firefox starts. Actually, Firefox works better with Vista's speech recognition than the IE 8 beta does (don't know about 7, but I doubt 8 would be better than 7). IE has all kinds of problems with showing numbers, clicking links when asked, etc. that FF doesn't have. About the only bad thing with FF's speech recognition support on Vista is dictation into text fields, which barely works at all.
- cquinnd, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1You were probably dugg down for using the term "have helped" instead of the more neutral "have developed applications for".
- kiwimonk, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1I've used Microsofts voice commander for pocket pc and it works really really well.. It actually indexes your music collection, so you can simply name the artist.. So it's a good thing.
- theillest1, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Dammit! When I glanced at the subject I thought it said "Microsoft to Develop Voice-Recognition App for Zune"
~sigh~ - chuckpoole, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1You are an effen idiot. I use the iPhone everyday as a power user. I just don't need copy/paste on a hand-held device. Get over it.
- knowmonger, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1You won't see that everyday. But c'mon guys, M$ sucks at making apps for their platform. They're interested in playing around with other platforms like Office for Mac.
- mrBitch, on 10/02/2008, -0/+1@Mike RE: " they also develop for other platforms, IE (now discontinued) for the Mac, Microsoft Office for the Mac .. "
Don't forget that Microsoft also discontinued IE for Windows (until FireFox kicked the ***** out of IE6). - trunks6008, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1don't forget the virus microsoft?!! you really want to cause mayhem to your competitors do you? your iphone will recked with virus if you install this software.
f*** with the voice activation. where's the natural speech for text messaging?!! - inactive, on 10/01/2008, -1/+2Replace "Microsoft" with 'Apple"
- macslut, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1I would be excited about this but...
TellMe is already available for iPhone users. It's a $5 a month service. Now as an app, it might be better than just a service, but really it needs to be integrated as a core service for the iPhone, allowing full control over the iPhone interface, apps, and 3rd party apps (even web pages). I could see Microsoft being able to do this, but not without a pretty significant blessing/partnership with Apple. So for now, it's just a wait and see (with an open mind, because I do like some of Microsoft's software).
More likely, I could see Apple taking this on themselves.
PS: You can subscribe to TellMe by logging into your AT&T account. To get to TellMe, just dial *86. You can make a Springboard shortcut for this so it's just a tap of an icon to get to TellMe. - bluetytanium, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1M$?
Oh, I get it.
It's because Microsoft makes money.
Clever. - stuffradio, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1One side of Bacon Sandwiches please!
- stuffradio, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Yes because you usually have to (when the phone is locked so you can't do anything) hit the button to make it start listening to your commands.
- friday04, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1"He said when the iPhone app launches there will probably be a big virtual button in the middle of the screen."
I'm glad he was able to come to that conclusion. - gcnaddict, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Department of Justice*. I'm not quite sure why I misspelled that.
- liquisoft, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1"There will probably be a giant button..."
Sweet! I can't wait to pay for a giant button app! - ddrirc, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1I came to post the same thing. Hopefully the tech has improved. :]
- adiyo011, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1I think they should just keep it for their own phones but w/e.
- renanrcarvalho, on 10/01/2008, -1/+2Great! Now you can write a letter to your aunt telling her you want set so double the killer delete select all right from your iPhone!
- Arasaka, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1You know what I'd want out of that? Something to take notes vocally, and voice recognition writes it down. Please Digg, enlighten me and tell me it exists!!
- inactive, on 10/01/2008, -0/+1Ha. When i had Dragon for Windows 98, if there was a loud sound, like a door slam or something dropped, all kinds of apps would launch.
