- jiminoc, on 11/07/2007, -57/+839even their cake probably has bugs in it
- latova, on 10/12/2007, -8/+576It was a nice gesture from the IE7 team. I guess developers don't take these "browser wars" as seriously as the users do.

One reason why the above comment is true is because the IE team needs browser wars to keep their jobs. If Mozilla doesn't keep posing a challenge, the Microsoft IE devs will eventually lose their jobs since there won't be a reason to keep improving. They're effectively thanking the Mozilla team for letting them keep their jobs.
And they're both probably laughing their asses off at the fanboyism. I wouldn't be surprised if Mozilla and Microsoft IE devs go partying together. - inactive, on 11/07/2007, -24/+349Attention Apple: This is what class looks like.
- UGM2099, on 10/12/2007, -3/+158They should send us web designers a cupcake for all the headaches they've caused.
- sparty1969, on 10/12/2007, -8/+157In 3 days they will be sent frosting patches for the cake and be asked to apply the new patches before consuming.
- astatine, on 10/12/2007, -5/+152Well, the Firefox team should send one back - with the cake's recipe, and a note that they're welcome to improve on it if they want.
- aiken, on 10/12/2007, -3/+140@MedHead: Or maybe it's just a cake.
- o0joshua0o, on 11/07/2007, -11/+110It seems like Microsoft isn't as evil as it used to be. They're slacking!
- JonnyTrombone, on 10/12/2007, -2/+72Duggmirror is working less and less recently. Anyone else notice this? (or am I crazy...?)
- masamunecyrus, on 10/12/2007, -8/+70@gcnaddict:
Indeed. Besides, I'm sure the IE dev team is happy to finally have a chance to actually do what they love to do -- program -- as opposed to sit on their ass all day like they did for the past decade. - ricree, on 10/12/2007, -2/+63Competition is pretty much always better than no competition. Firefox is pushing the IE team to improve themselves, which in turn creates pressure on mozilla to improve firefox. While I don't use IE, I'm glad that it is around.

It's the corporate heads that are the evil ones. For instance, I've always been fond of their Xbox division as they've always shown that they care about their games because in their spare time, they actually PLAY Xbox Live!. Of course, they're always winding up trying to balance being decently nice, and fighting off the evil heads at Microsoft that want them to grind up the competition and consume the chunky soup that results.

Worth a shot? - isage, on 10/12/2007, -0/+46A bit more classy then putting a huge IE logo on the Netscape campus lawn:

Dugg mirror is down, sad face. - CaptShmo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+36$30 cake vs. lots of nearly free publicity? Seems like a good move, hope it was genuine though.

- dandiemer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+27what did you expect them to send? did they even need to send a congratulations? get over yourself.
- ArcticCelt, on 10/12/2007, -8/+28Firefox should send a cake of there own with the "open source" recipe included.

I wouldn't either. In fact, when I used to sell for HP, me and the Canon and Epson guys were all pretty good friends, and we would hang out and joke around at work a lot, and occasionally hit up Applebee's for a cocktail lunch. Good times.
Just because companies are on opposing sides of a market doesn't mean they can't be civil and respectful. - raptordrew, on 10/12/2007, -14/+31Didn't they do the same thing to Netscape, or was it to someone else?
- ArrEmmDee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Why the heck ARE you being dugg down?

Here is the cake - KSUdesigner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12How does "Love, the IE team" imply that it's FOR the IE team? The cake makes COMPLETE sense. The term "shipping" is referring to the newest release of Firefox. Are you a bunch of morons or what?
- epheterson, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14dang, not one person saved the picture?

"If not poisoned, than a very strict per-slice licensing agreement."
Mmmm... That's good satire! - ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16You're absolutely right. Both browsers are not fully CSS2,3 or webstandards compliant. It causes huge headaches and adds hours or days into development time. These guys have cost the web building industry untold millions.
- MedHead, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14I'd be happy Internet Explorer were around if it weren't so horrid with web standards compliance. I can't support its existence when it can't get right the one thing it's intended to do: display web sites.
- aeoo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13@gcnaddict,
What you say is probably (although I am not certain) true of developers, but it's not true of the top brass at Microsoft and Microsoft's general posture and direction as a company.
Try to understand that when people rail against Microsoft, they mostly rail against the top brass, filthy rich, decision making, strategy defining upper portion of Microsoft. Get it? Now, the people in the trench are also responsible by being complicit and supportive of some very crooked decisions at the top, if they are in fact just passively rolling over. On the other hand, if they are pushing the top toward more openness, even as they work for those *****, then they are still nice people in my book.
So, yes, big woop de doo that devs can all talk to each other. That was never an issue to begin with. - gregorypierce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9But that was classic, like some of the stuff Nintendo and Sega used to do :)
- gregorypierce, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Great move on Microsoft's part.
Many of the down to earth developers don't get into these rampant religious debates that the users do, so its good they were able to get past the political BS that sometimes exists in various organizations and do something nice :) - Magadass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Come on guys, Microsoft is just a huge group of geek loving people! Sure its a business model, but behind all the corporate crap they are just as geeky as we are, and they are just as passionate about technology!
- Zidane, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Just hope it doesnt have a naked bill gates inside

- woodenturkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9mmmm tabbed frosting
- mandarin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Well they dont really need to send anyone a cake.
They're not obligated. They just sent one as a gesture of congratulations. No malice.
Does this answer your questions now? - raptordrew, on 10/12/2007, -14/+21Why the heck am I being dugg down? It was a legitimate question, because I remember it happening sometime before.
Edit: I found what I was looking for, nevertheless - it was putting their logo on the lawn of Netscape's property. Not quite the same, but oh well. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9classy act from the IE team =)
now if only the fan boys for both browsers could act with such class :D - JQP123, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7MS has waning interest in the web browser war. What they have their eye on is the market for on-line apps --- Rich Internet Applications (RIA) that are every bit as functional and easy to use as locally installed software ... without the install.
You want to use MS Office from anywhere? Just go to MS's web site and enter your account or credit card number. The necessary rich interface components (.NET code) are downloaded on the fly as needed and executed inside a virtual sandbox provided by IE8 using either local or web based storage.
This is where MS wants to go tomorrow. - freeed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I fixed my web server. You guys totally hammered it earlier ;)
Thanks for digging though!! -
